I have put a few posts on here over the last couple of years that received lots of abuse and had people being quite rude to me. The first was saying that Moyes was a special manager and worked on a shoestring budget slowly replacing an ageing squad with youth and vigour. I also stated that the football being played in his last 2 seasons was quite amazing and he did not get the credit he deserved. Martinez came in and he has put his own players in now. Problem is, they are mostly ex Wigan or past their sell by date. or both. We are now in the situation I predicted whereby the age of our squad is overall too old. We need probably 8 or 9 new young players that can contribute with goals. I do not think any club can withstand that sort of change.and we don't have the finances to cherry pick these players. I am really down by the thought of what will happen.not what is already happening. Even if we survive this season, I foresee big big problems ahead caused by the signings that RM has brought in. Lukaku aside, we have no new goalscorers, yet we have 6 or 7 new signings.

Agree4 Disagree4

good post degsy, I also thought moyes did a good job but could go no further without more funds, which will be a problem going forward especially if a new manager wastes these.
We certainly find and produce good young players, Barkley, stones and Garbutt are testament to that.

I very rarely post to anything you write Degs, but you are 100% spot on. Our long term future is in big trouble. If we lose Garbutt, Barkley, Coleman, Lukaku, Besic or Stones we are in dire trouble. Players like Barry, Distan, Howard, Pienaar need to be moved on. I would keep Jags and Osman for another couple of years. Jags for his leadership and Osman with his skill (being a sub). Martinez cannot be part of our future either!

ross barkleys a good young player? wow the young players in world football must be awful for him to be considered any good. you mentioned moyes replacing an ageing squad, yet his team consisted of a (at the time) 35 year old distin, 33 year old howard, 31 year old osman, 33 year old phil neville, 32 year old tim cahill etc etc. he also never played our young players, didn't trust barkley (unfortunately martinez can't do that, as he's crap), never played stones, browning or garbutt. how many goalscorers did he have? his last season it was just fellaini, before that jelavic and before that saha, before him yakubu and slightly cahill, along with beckford, before him it was johnson and beattie. I want martinez sacked, but moyes is not the answer and is long gone so I have to ask, why do you keep stirring up arguments and repeatidly mention him over and over and over again.

Probably because Moyes turned us from a bottom 8 team when he took over into a regular top 8 team by the time he left and this clown has in 18 months turned us back into a bottom 8 club!
But am with you Swan we need a NEW manager and all our efforts should be focused ahead not on the past
We need to make it clear we don't want the clown prince Martinez and his annoying, embarrassing sound bites anymore

Swan I believe Ross Barkley is an immense talent, however he looks like he goes to KFC everyday for lunch and dinner and is unfit. He is played out of position and therefore has lost all form and is in abysmal form. I will guarantee if he left for Chelsea or Man City or whoever he would be a world beater. Martinez has turned gems like Barkley, Baines, Coleman, Lukaku into spuds because of his ridiculous tactics!

I've said this before but I don't think Barkley is a Number 10 I believe he is a central midfielder and needs time there. His best game this season was as a two with Besic against QPR. He was immense in that game.

As for an old team I wouldn't go that far. Most teams have experienced players and you need that not only on the pitch but also on the bench and in the dressing room. It's what may just keep us up this season.

I have never believed players mean that much in the grand scheme of things but confidence and good management do. Just look at the teams above us and the perfect example is Southampton. Unfortunately, we are bereft of both at the moment.

Swan I think you are bit mixed up mate. Firstly all the players you list from Moyes time certainly all reached those ages, but not at the same time. Nor did they all play in the same team at that age. It is fact that when Moyes took over from Walter Smith, he had a very ageing squad. He slowly aimed to bring the age of the squad down. That is fact. He kept a few more mature players each season but not the number we have now. I also don't think Moyes coming back is the answer as it never works in football. eg Kendall. More importantly, on this Swan banter site, how is it that you are allowed your opinion yet I put something on and all you do is criticise it? Oh yeah it is the Swan Banter Page!

Agree with swan here simple fact is Martinez was left an ageing squad agree with his signings or not most are young IMO besic McCarthy henen lukaku Robles mcgeady bringing stones garbutt Barkley through moyes left Howard distin jags hibbert Baines Ossie pienaar so this post has no real truth pointless

Because I disagree? Is no one allowed to have a pop at king moyes and prince osman? Apologies.

07 Mar 2015 18:29:21
Also what do you mean never played in the same team? I could swear hibbert (another I forgot), howard, distin, osman, neville and cahill all played in the same team at least once. Another reason I keep having a go? i'd like to think when I post its of something important, recent or debatable, not about a manager who won nothing and left 2 years ago, which is all your post bar the ones about osman.
