I cannot believe that Martinez has come out and said that Alcatrash has still got time this season to earn a new deal. Is this clown serious?

Mr.Bean is in meltdown,

Yes, cause that's the way to motivate players. Tell them they have no future at the club with 8 games to go. Glad you're not in charge.

I agree with Leicester Toffee about not wanting to demotivate a player that might be needed for this season's remaining fixtures. However, I can't imagine anyone thinking that the player in question has performed consistently well when called upon and therefore hasn't shown that a contract extension is merited. As for motivating players, I wonder where Distin's mindset is considering that he's not had a sniff of the first team for a while and has only been appearing for the U-21 side as a (very!) over-age player. I reckon he would have left in the January transfer window if we could have got a decent replacement (maybe on loan) or had a youngster (Galloway, Browning, etc.) who was genuinely ready for regular first-team football. Thank goodness that Jagielka and Stones are currently fit for selection.

We're all entitled to an opinion, but tell me Leicester Toffee why we should motivate Alcaraz we wouldn't have got a decent offer for him even if we had included him in a lucky bag. I would rather give Browning or Galloway a go instead.

Whether he has performed well or not is irrelevant. When you have someone on your staff you have to motivate them as best as you can. It doesn't matter if you think you may be getting rid in a few weeks but for the time you have them you have to keep them keen. I have been a company director and have known that people will be leaving but you don't tell them until the time is right. I don't feel the time is right for us to do that with Alcatraz yet as he is still being used in some capacity and probably will be until the end of the season. You have to get real and understand how business and people work!!!

I know and understand how business works, I have been successfully running a five million pound contract, employing 180 people, most who have been with with me for that time. I also know that if someone is not of the standard I need I don't offer them platitudes to encourage them to stay. If Alcaraz is offered a new deal, this and other websites are likely to go into meltdown.

see both points I'm not sure about you but playing in front of 40,000 at Goodison and picking up £45k a week would motivate me!
