Is shaqiri any good. I don't watch italian footy or the swiss. I saw one game were he was ok but nothing major.
My fear is that people are bigging him up because he plays for an Inter milan side.

The little I have seen of him, I am not too impressed. Cabaye would be a far better call IMO and probably at similar cost, tried and tested in the EPL.

Shaqiri is an excellent player, I've watched him plenty (Bit of a football addict, no matter the teams) seen him for Bayern and Inter at club level , also the Swiss at international. I'd class him as a winger but he could play no 10, his strengths are Crossing, Shooting, finishing, goes past players with pace and low centre of gravity. I'd say his weakness is his lack of right footed ability (all left) The only reason he left Bayern is the fact robben/Ribery where always going to be ahead of him, he's an excellent player (I'd say better than a similar link in Konoplyanka) and think he'd fit in well.
only issue perhaps being he likes to play on the rights. Same a deulefeou.
highly doubt we'll sign him though, I'm sure he has plenty of suitors. And despite Inters recent decline. They are still a more attractive proposition than us.

Thing is if Shaqiri isn't getting game time in italy at Inter who are not the force they once were, should we really be taking a punt at £12m on him?

Only time will tell ed. It is slightly concerning that we are not even looking like we are in the market to improve on last season more a case of waiting for last minute scraps. Yes it is only early doors but if we did have an interest in Shaqiri then surely we should at least be competing for him. What I have seen of him he is a wide player who can play in the hole too, that said so can Delboy so did we ever really want him? It can go 2 ways, he performs well for Stoke and then moves on to bigger club or he struggles and is moved on.
{Ed025's Note - as you say gray...only time will tell, but i would have liked us to take a punt on him mate..

Clubs have agreed a fee however its still up to the player to decide if he wants to sign, so could still be time, but I get a feeling we are looking elsewhere.

As a youngster he was an excellent player but got frozen out a Bayern as mentioned above in another post. But he certainly has ability and would be exactly what we need in my opinion. He is quick with good ability to run at players and has an excellent shot and can pick a decent pass out too.
