Everyone knows I was a David Moyes supporter and I thought he worked miracles for our club but I have to say that some of the criticism of Martinez is unjust. Especially after the performance of the officials. Firstly we were 2 nil up away at Chelsea. Secondly we had the character to get a 3rd in the 90th minute after they had fought back. Thirdly we then had to endure 8 minutes of extra added on time which their manager talked the ref into adding an extra minute on for our celebrations. Fourthly they scored an equaliser thatwas blatantly offside and fifthly Terry then celebrated for longer than Mori had yet the ref only added a few seconds on? And this is all Martinez's fault? Get real lads.

We can moan about bad luck all we like Degs but at some point the penny has to drop. We have trouble defending a lead and that has been evident all season. It is down to the manager to sort out the weak links and supply his players with the tactics to see out games. For me, he places far too much emphasis on playing attacking football. That's all well and good but not to the detriment of a solid defence, which we used to have. There has to be a balance but I haven't seen anything of late to suggest RM will compromise his methods.
Someone suggested on here that I was coming at this with a glass half empty attitude but that isn't the case. I wouldn't mind at all if RM suddenly found his winning formula as, ultimately, that would mean we are successful. I'm just looking at the bigger picture, when was our last win? I'd rather come away from the game knowing that we had won 3 points than come out saying how unlucky we were and at least it's a point. But there is only so much we can attribute to luck. We defend naively at times and that has cost us far too many points already this season, made even more galling when you look at the table. In reference to the Terry goal, not many moaned when City never got a last minute penalty the previous game. That's football, unfortunately, and is down to luck. What isn't down to luck is organising your defence properly, that is just the basics of footy.
If we don't finish this season in the top half then It proves that he is not the man to take us forward. In actual fact he would have taken us backwards over the last two seasons. Not good enough for me I'm afraid, the fans and the players deserve better.

They should never have come back from 2 goals down, that's on Martinez, because it's happened 3 times now this season.

bit harsh lads - a deflected goal . an awful tim howard mash up, and a goal that should never of been - the boys had a cracking game and martinez tactics and substitutions were spot on, only thing I do agree with is the fact howard should be dropped, we've went to city and chelsea in space of a week and done ok.

{Ed025's Note - im with you dazza mate..

Perhaps if the players didn't run into the crowd it wouldn't give the ref the option to add time on.

Sums it up really.Martinez will never sort a defence out.

Degsy, we are 2-0 up against a poor Chelsea side and let them back into the game then 3-2 up and switched off. Same against Bournemouth, You can blame the officials and yes you can blame the players but it is the Manager that dictates the tactics. Just listen to the bloke for God's sake, absolutely refuses to adopt any other tactic but tippy tappy gung ho stuff, believes that goals from free kicks, corners etc are not proper goals. Just read and listen to his interviews. Arsenal play some good stuff as well as us but guess what they get right first.

jeez keenone- the passion our players and fans have for the club, fully justifys celebrating like that, we all thought that was a winning goal and we got pumped by the ref! martinez is doing a good job were improving defensively he seen that needed dealt with and has , just harshly unlucky on saturday, he does however need to drop howard cost us a lot of points! his pathetic challenge or lack of it on costa was the nail in the coffin for me . i'm excited by the team we have, squad we have, youngsters coming through, we can't do anything now about past results need to focus on what's on front of us, back martinez, back the team, I 100% will be . good times ahead were one game away from a cup final ffs! bring it on lads NSNO COYB IMWT.

I love your enthusiasm Daz but I don't agree we are improving defensively. If anything we have stagnated, we are still throwing games away due to mistakes. I've read three good articles today (independent, echo and the mail) which all pretty much highlight the same thing.
Some of it is actually quite scary when you look at the stats during his reign here and at Wigan, the similarities are alarming. I don't think any of us should bury our heads in the sand and pretend that everything is rosy, that we will tighten up defensively some time soon. That is not the way RM works, he has his 'philosophy' and he rarely deviates from it. I'll get behind the team as always but I'm starting to believe that we will not get back to fighting for the euro places whilst this man is at the helm. I want to turn the tv off when he is interviewed as most of his words are nonsense or just plain embarrassing. I mean, he's come out and said we won against Chelsea! WTF is this man thinking?
