When martinez became our manager I worked nights and listened to talk sport and Jason cundy said we would regret letting this man take over and even after his first season cundy was still banging the drum over our managers inadeqecess so if an ex pro could see it and most of our supporters could see it then why oh why did our board employ a man that had just relegated a team and correct me if I'm wrong didn't we pay compensation for the fraud.

I have to say half the blues supporters were behind him fully. but I was not one of them. but after his first season, I was amazed and thought I had judged him wrong. unfortunately I had him sussed all along.

{Ed025's Note - i wanted him degs, i was lulled in by the promises and rhetoric of the guy...please dont pass this information on to pyramid sellers, jehova.s witness,s or QVC.. :)

Lukaku was his one bit of brilliance in my view. and it worked for a season. I suppose you could say Barry was also pretty good business. but in all honesty, you didn't have to be special to realise Lukaku was an amazing prospect and Barry was already a top player. Other signings show promise. McCarthy, Besic and Deulafeu spring to mind. but McGeady, Alcaraz, Kone. awful signings compared to what we already had. He talks about squad improvements. I believe the players they have replaced were better. eg Distin, Naismith, Donovan, Saha, Neville, Fellaini, Yobo, Cahill etc were all better than the 3 I mention. I would say he weakened the squad and that's why we are where we are now. relying on 1 player or 2 players to keep us going. Recipe for disaster and people are slowly coming round to my way of thinking on this Ed.

{Ed025's Note - i think the consensus of opinion degs is that this is our strongest squad for many a year mate, the thing is that bobby is not utilizing the quality we have correctly..

The first season we did well but I remember well being at Goodison when we were going through a slight slump and it was turned around by Jags etc in the end ignoring the fraud and putting the ball into row Z and the same happened last season when rumours abounded of senior players arguing with him. His attacking philosophy I applaud but his ignoring of defence and absolutely delusional after match comments make no sense whatsoever. I hope beyond hope that we are being taken over and this fella is gone.

You are right that this is the consensus of opinion Ed. it is just not mine. I think individually certain players have certain attributes that make them stand out for that particular ability. eb Deulofeu has an amazing swinging cross whereby he can swing one in aka Beckham. However, his defending is awful, his tracking back is awful and his ability to retaain possession is pretty bad too. McCarthy has aan amazing workrate. His tackling is superb. But his shooting and goalscoring is next to non existent. Barry is similar. When you look through the current squad, it is filled with players like this. There are not many (if any) all rounders. And we are particularly poor on goalscorers. We have just let one of the all rounders go in Naismith. Rumour is Mirallas is to follow. and I term him as an all rounder. I know I go on and on about this but it is so obvious to me. Our central 3 midfielders all signed by RM replaced players who scored goals. Cleverly, Barry and McCarthy score at most 4 or 5 goals a season between them. Besic is yet to score for us. McGeady has 1. Kone has 6 but 3 of them were in 1 game. Mirallas has averaged about 8 or 9 in his career. Osman was always good for 6 or 7. Pienaar always got 5 or 6. We are reliant on Barkley and Lukaku for most of our goals and without Lukaku, I suspect Barkley would score fewer than he gets now. We need some kids coming through in the Osman/ Pienaar mould of being quick footed and with a decent shot on them because I don't trust Martinez to sign any like this.

{Ed025's Note - i agree that the midfield need to contribute more in the scoring department degs, oh for a tim cahill type who could win you games even if the strikers were not firing..mind you with this guy in charge he would probably have been playing at fullback..

I was going to mention him as an all rounder. Great for heading at both defensive corners and attacking corners. Could tackle. Could mix it up when needed. Almost a forward but one who was not afraid to roll up his sleeeves and do a defensive bit. Compare that with Deulofeu, McGeady, Kone, Barkley. oh and yes at least 10 goals a season. I keep repeating this bit but here goes. stop Lukaku and you have stopped EVERTON. Now how do you think opposing managers approach playing us? Why do we have 60-70% possession every game yet muster 2 shots at goal? Then add that to the lack of ability of allthe plaayers I lissted who don't know how to defend. no wonder all of a sudden Jags and Stones look poor. We used to be known for our goals at set pieces. Corners and free kicks by Baines, Pienaaar or whoever. Timmy, Distin, whoever we had playing were able to score. Same plaayer whips in a corner now and we look like we will never score. that's not just tactics. that's having plaayers who want to get on the end and also the ability to read the situation. Goalscoring can be coached to a degree but some players have the aability inbred.
