Hi Guys,

I'm sure this won't be met with much agreement at all but i'd like to make a case for Martinez being given another year with us.

I completely agree that our league position is awful, and we have thrown away so many points from winning positions that it is heart wrenching. But on the flip side, I truly believe we have been playing some sensational football at times, pundits and rival fans often agree to this.

Clearly Martinez needs to get to grips with our defensive failings, and learn how to take the points when we are in the right position during a match. He can't be so naive to not notice this, and my belief is that he will address it for next year. If this is sorted then we can be a real force, when used in combination with the attacking prowess we now display under him.

He is bold in the transfer market, takes a chance on young players, and seems to garner love from his players, as demonstrated by deulofeu's comments.

I am much happier with Martinez than I ever was with Moyes, and again, although there are some severe errors, I would like to see if he can fix it. Would one more year really harm?

{Ed025's Note - is that you bobby?.. :) i do like the guy worcester, but the fact is its a results business mate and he has been found wanting, if things changed and i mean dramatically between now and the end of the season then maybe...but im not holding my breath..

If he got a top defensive coach and actually took his advice then i'm in, doesn't matter anyway as he will still be here next year anyway.

I prefer to be called Robby but yes you caught me out Ed :)

I completely agree with your comment re; being a points business, and on that basis we have been pretty shambolic. But I just can't shake the feeling that he must have something special about his management to generate such a huge turn around in our attacking play. If he knows how to work defensively (but just neglected it, or always considered it a 2-stage plan, who knows) then we could be some very happy fans.

It's blind faith really, I think I would just like the stability rather than a new manager with new transfer targets and the risk of 0-0 draws once more, we endured too much of that for a lifetime.

I think he is staying odds on, he's just spent another £13.5m that's not the stance of a board about to terminate someone's contract, sorry for the bad news Ed025!

{Ed025's Note - thats ok wakka..i expect your right mate..

For me if you can't get your defence set up right after three years of being at the club then you are not even an average manager.

When you add fuel to the fire that he inherited one of the best defences in the league it makes your mind explode!

Then you have some guy who has not played at the highest level coaching your defence (development coach) yet you have a previous England international coaching the U21's is plain fricken stupid!

You need to take a look at the guys CV. It's world class. This just sums it up for me.

Agree BlueJohnUns, think if Martinez hasn't sorted out the defence by now I'll be stunned if he ever does.

On paper we have one of the best defence in the league. I honestly believe that. Its confidence, moral, playing tactics and coaching that are all doing the harm to our defence imho.

No one happier than me if Martinez all of a sudden has the defence playing the way he did in his first season. I along with other posters suggested a long time ago that the defence in his first season was not really his.

I'd say there is a lot more people who would agree with that today. He did pull a great squad together. Pity about his lacking in defence.

One question, didn't Martinez play as a centre back himself? Not 100% sure of that. Would like to know for certain. Makes his defensive coaching look even worse if he was a centre back. Like I said I'm not positive if he was a centre back.

{Ed023's Note - He was a defensive midfielder}

Thank you for that Ed023.
