Jocelyn Gourvennec. Ed002 mentioned him a few weeks ago. I did some research on him and he has massively overachieved albeit with a small club in Ligue 1. He got them promoted to Ligue 2, then promoted to Ligue 1, won the French Cup and the following year kept them in Europe longer than any other French team. All with a team based in a town of 7,500 people. He's kept them in Ligue 1 on a shoestring, which has meant he's had to bring young players through. Lower finish this year but just keeping them in the league is almost miraculous. He's clever, passionate, disciplined, possesses good man-management skills, tactically astute and loyal. He's nbeen likened to a young Klopp. He would be a great fit for us. I know he's not got prem experience and he hasn't managed a big club, but as Jr78 says below, a lot of the best targets now seem to be out of the frame and I'm with Woburn who says we should go for a young up and coming manager. Koeman has been pants everywhere before Southampton, Pellegrini I'm not convinced, Moyes nuff said, de Boer I'd be happy with although seems to have gone a bit stale the last couple of years. I would actually interview Gourvennec and see what he's got.

The more I read about Lucien Favre the more I think he could be great. Decent record most places he's been, plays a fast counter attacking style and likes to give the young pups a game. Admittedly he's not as big a draw as some of the names mentioned and he has a reputation for being highly strung but if we can't get our first choices then he'd be worth looking at.

Koeman pants before Southampton. emmm. Yes had bad spells at Valencia and AZ but other places he's been he done pretty good from what I've seen. Didn't he win some Dutch titles with 2 or 3 different teams? Psv and Ajax, didn't he win some other trophy somewhere else as well?

I'm not saying he done fantastically right through his career but pants until he got to Southampton? I think he's done well so far in his relatively young managerial career. A cert for Arsenal if Wenger goes next season.

FDB or Pell for Everton it looks like.

FDB for me. and as dags cheekily put Martinez. shame on you. imagine when Wenger steps down dags and bobby brown shoes gets your gig lol.

NBTB Koeman has won four trophies worth speaking of but always near the beginning of his time at a club that had been dominant in their league before he took over. The exception was the Copa del Rey at Valencia but his time there was a disaster overall. Look properly at his legacy everywhere he's been. He's left every club worse than when he took it on. Not saying he hasn't been decent at Southampton - he has. But he has been pants everywhere else. He never beat FDB to title when they went head to head over 3 seasons, he's never built a team like FDB had to at Ajax. He's had a very lucky career so far.

Ok coyb he has done bad at Valencia and AZ, I already said that. He might of been lucky to win with previous clubs but he won none the less. I don't rate Benitez but I can't say his time with the reds was pants because he won trophies.

Here's why I rate Koeman really. He has built damn near 2 teams with Southampton since he took over. He had to deal with a lot and was successful with what he achieved with what was at his disposal. This is all in the premiership. He could attract top players also.

His own playing career is amazing and I can imagine plenty of players wishing to play under him. Imo he is a very sustainable all round good manager. Gives youth a chance and Southampton seem to play a balanced system.
