Why would we want Toure? He will want a stupid wage that he's not worth, he's at the end of his career and he looks at least 5 stone overweight. No thanks for me.

Couldn't agree more bluegray87.

I'm sure that the club - and most of the fans - would prefer us to be bringing through talented U21/ U18 players (as along as this young talent can deliver) rather than having to transfer in players, but, as others have stated, it's nice to know that we can compete financially for those special players that will enhance our team.
A team of talented homegrown players dotted with top-quality additions would suit me.
That's a bit like the team that Harry Catterick put together for the 1970 league title. : Wright, Labone, Hurst, Harvey, Husband, Royle, Whittie and Jackson all brought through from the juniors; West, Brown, Newton, Kendall, Ball and Morrissey brought in over the preceding years. (Apologies to any others I've missed out. )

{Ed002's Note - The world of football has changed considerably in the past 45 years Sid.}

Ed002: Of course it's changed and I accept that there's almost certainly little chance that any top club will bring through enough talented youngsters - and must therefore rely on transferring in better players - but I stand by my wish that as many homegrown talented youngsters as possible do come through into our first team. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one :-)

{Ed002's Note - One day maybe Sid.}

I'm a dreamer also Sid. All a lot of these youngsters need is a chance. If they don't get into the first team before they are 22 there chances of making it are very small. Managers are reluctant to risk playing youngsters too which keeps the cycle going.

I hope some of our youngsters get a proper chance. Look at Dier and Mustafi. Although I'm well aware hindsight is easy to comment on. These players made it when given a proper go of it.

Sid, you will also remember the supply chain of players Catterick brought in from Scotland, eg Alex Young, Alex Parker, Tommy Ring, Jimmy Gabriel in addition to your mention of Sandy Brown. Also Tony Kay from Sheffield We'd also excellent buy.
