I see a lot of discussion here about the past. The past is the past, forget it. What I see is a new owner who has a good business record. I see him identify the managerial weakness and go after and get a manager with great pedigree certainly as a player and arguably as a manager. I see speculation that Moshiri is looking to appoint a DoF which is new for Everton and which indicates a plan to but a good managerial team in place.
What I expect in the immediate future is for the managerial team to assess the current squad and youngsters, identify critical needs and sign players accordingly. This precess is not not going to be done overnight. The last thing we need is panic purchases.
From a business viewpoint I expect the business team to radically improve the commercial revenue and plan and build a new stadium. Again this is going to take time.
I believe that we have a bright future, time will tell whether my optimism is well founded.

Some people like living in the past mike, let's look forward now, new owner, new manager, plenty of cash and new stadium on the way yet people still moan, just ignore them as will never be happy.

I agree we certainly do have a bright future and some great things are happening with the club.

If we forgot the past do you think we would have the fan base we currently have? It is because of the past and the glory days we were able to attract Moshri and his billion, It is because of the past we were able to land Koeman.

Part of our desire for the future means giving us a taste of the past when we were a fantastic team, every other team in the old first division feared playing us, and they were right to do so. Without our past we can not be realistic about our ambitions. We have tasted success and we want it back.

That my friend is reasonable optimism. I can go with that. If my posts about our current squad and how it was assembled are what you refer to about the "past". it was really the present I was on about. but also there seems to be a section of our support that thinks we are going to do a Roman Abromovic at Goodison. ie buy a load of players. really top ones who would rather sign for 11th placed Everton that Celtic for instance. ie albeit a Champions League club from another country. My optimism is more like yours. cautious. I think some fans have seen a once in a lifetime achievement in Leicester City and now expect us to just buy our way into the top 4. My view on our current squad is somewhat different to theirs.

Totally agree with remembering the past for good reasons, not constantly dragging up negative rubbish that's behind us, yes we've had bad and good, but remember it's not always easy to fix something, it takes time, I feel it will take a couple of seasons before we are back challenging the top half, think a losing mentality is hard to get out of, just hope with some fresh faces we can turn it around.

Degsy not one single poster has ever stated we are going to do a Chelski or City, the majority want the kids brought through and are realistic, I've not seen any posts about signing Neymar or Messi, odd one about Zlatan but he is on a free, things are about to change at our club and even the pessimistic must be excited, let's enjoy where we are going.

The point I was trying to make about the past is that it cannot be changed. At 76 years of age I of course remember the past, especially the good and great times. Of course we want the great times back. I was at Wembley in 1966 and in 1995 and was at Goodison when we won the league and I want to see more of it before I leave this life. However at present the most important thing to the club today is the things I describe above. Good team management and good business management which have been lacking for some time. Improvements in all aspects of the club will come with those things in place, we just have to be patient.

I remember the time just before the Watford cup final back in the 80's I could never imagine we were destined for the great things we achieved after that game!

It taught me the lesson of 'never give up hope'

Degsy lad. . . have you forgot that lesson because you were there too!?

29 Jun 2016 19:46:05
Yes I was there too. And yes no one could have foreseen what was about to happen. Likewise with Leicester City this season. But I cannot come on here and write "I think everything is roses" when actually I believe we have some fundamental problems within our squad. I have said. I might be wrong? But when another poster comes on and says, "some people will never be happy". On another post below I commented on about a 1000 words about all sorts of things and mentioned Osman and Pienaar because someone else had brought them up in a previous post and got, "Give it a rest Degsy, we have heard it 1000 times your views on Osman. " Perhaps so, but the reality is. he has to be replaced now. Why does that bear criticsm? I have no idea. But oh for the past. the past of 84 through to 86 would do!

Your missing the point Degsy. Our future is as bright as it has been for 2 - 3 decades. The club is moving on and improving. Murf rightly points out 99% of Evertonians are excited for next season. Why any are not is a mystery to me. What do you want?

All my Christmases have came at once with the developments this last few months. I'm chuffed, we finally have a secure future. Why would anyone be unhappy with that?

It will transfer onto the pitch. We shouldn't be putting our club down by pointing out we finished 11th last season. We should be looking up. Just like Leicester done. They took every game as it came and kept the head down.

The world knows it was a once off with them. But we can aim a lot higher than 11th. Not too long ago we finished 5th. No reason why we can't do that again next season and fourth the following season. Absolutely no reason at all.

We can and should be targeting that. Realistic imho.

NBTB I really don't see it the way you do. I see the only differences that have happened: 1. new part owner. 2. new manager. If I point the following out, please do not think I am sitting here all gloom and despondant. You may actually be right and things might actually improve? Who knows? But I will curtail my enthusiasm until I see signs of progress. Here are the reasons why: I am an Evertonian and have heard it so many times before then been let down. Money does not guarantee anything in football. Newcastle United and Aston Villa have both had many many years of investment to the extent we are now talking and look at the state of those 2 clubs. Everyone makes the assumption that our new part owner is a successful business man and so gets what he wants so that means we will be successful. Were the 2 clowns who ran Liverpool not successful? Was Randy Learner and Mike Ashly not successful. Finally you give Leicester City as an example of what can happen. Yes their most expensive player until last season was Ulloah at 10 million and their total squad cost 50 million so where is the comparrison? They also started last season with the aim of avoiding relegation so how does your "blind" optimism make us comparable with them? They went through the season changing their targets as it progressed. That is a good thing in football. Expecting us to target Champions League when the following clubs already have a track record of being there or thereabouts. and we play them all twice each season. and hardly ever beat any of them. how are we suddenly going to do that when they have more money to spend than us? They all also have the infrastructure already in place so hit the ground running. Our manager has not even met the current players yet. Champions League this season? possible . yes probable. very unlikely. but yes Leicester City won the league so unlikely things do happen in football. but that's all I am saying . it is unlikely we will be anywhere near Champions League places. We may qualify, but it is unlikely. Some other posters on here would have you believe the Messia has arrived and in 2 years we will win the League. I repeat the word. unlikely. Now my list of teams already set up for the 4 Champions League places. They all have money. They all have better players than us and they all have the infrastructure in place: Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, (I hate to say it) Liverpool. Now also assume that Leicester City are also now in that group. that makes 7 teams who we are unlikely to beat in a lot of the 14 games we play. Also assume we will lose a few games elsewhere and that is why I am not on this wave of enthusiasm just yet. When I have seen Mr Moshiri make some really good decisions. When I have seen our steady improvement. When I have seen some quality improvements toour squad. That is when I will be the most enthusiastic of supporters. Not now just because we have a Randy Learner. Hope that explains my reasons.
