I need a dose of NBTB's positiveness. Because after watching last night, all my fears and worries came flooding back. I seriously think we will be around the bottom 3.unless we sign 3 or 4 top quality players. and do not lose Lukaku. If we lose Lukaku, I think we will be in BIG trouble.

I agree degsy not a good performance, but I don't think bottom 3 or 4 mate that's relegation talk before the season kicks off.

IT

WAS

A

FRIENDLY!

Blue john just gave you it.

Fears and worries!?! What has the world come to? We Have to sign 3 or 4 quality players to beat relegation! I don't post much but this post is priceless. Give Moshri, Walsh, Koeman and everyone else at the club a break for crying out loud, they've been at the club for how long!? With someone in charge that actually knows what they are doing If we didn't sign anyone we wouldn't be anywhere near the bottom three. Get a grip and get behind the team already, it's pre-season.

Hey BlueJohnUns, I am aware that it was a friendly. It was also a friendly for the German 2nd division team too. Your big letters do not reassure me as much as NBTB though. Seriously though, they looked like a team whereas we looked like a bunch of players who had no idea about what was expected of them. Panic in defence was a constant. In reality they could have scored a bagful and we could have scored one or two. Lukaku is a necessity in my humble view and should Chelsea offer us 100 million we should turn them down unless we have another 20 goals a season striker around to buy. Other than him and maybe the odd one from Barkley and Del boy and Mirallas. I just don't see where they will come from. Yes it was a friendly. They are for obtaining fitness. Ok on that one. Trying different tactics. Ok on that one too. And guaging players with a new manager. I think he will have guaged quite a bit from that performance. Spurs in 2 weeks? We will see how a very good team does against us. not a German 2nd division one.

30 Jul 2016 10:53:41
DogPukePeter, wwho said anything about not being behind the team. I would never stand by me in the Gladwys Street Lower section. You end up deaf! This is a banter site where I am allowed to view my thoughts on progress/ decline. I aactually think we were pretty close to relegation last 2 seasons. If you remember 2 seasons ago when Lukaku did not score for a while and we went 11 games without a win. then we battled a few out at the end of the season toclimb to 11th. Likewise, last season, when Lukaku looked disinterested. we looked rubbish. Well, if Stones goes and Lukaku goes. big ifs I know. but even if only Stones goes and Chelsea keep on trying to sign Lukaku and he loses interest again. after all, he behaves like a big kid. I agree that the new money is welcome. I agree that Koeman might be a great manager. I agree that Walsh was a brilliant aquisition. But we have signed a 33 year old keeper so far and lost 3 squaad players. The kids coming through look very good but are not yet ready for first team starts in my opinion. So if we lose another player or two. who knows how we will deal with it?

30 Jul 2016 10:56:22
As I mentioned on an earlier post, it will take time for the team to get out of the bad habits instilled by the previous management and to adapt to the new tactics. No need to panic just yet.

30 Jul 2016 11:02:31
My laptop seems to have a sticking a button. Makes me look like I am a Mr Koeman Dutch supporter! Greaat! Good Maanaager!

30 Jul 2016 11:15:11
I am not actually panicking Blue Tommy. More a feeling of resignation that things are going against us somewhat. I too hope that it is bad habits and the manager can changee whatever needs to be changed to make the difference needed. However, what I saw last night waas not good. I saw very little positive stuff. Especially when you saaw the staandard of opposition. They were far superior as a team yet are a 2nd division German team. Slight positives: Del Boy looked lively. Mirallas looks like he wants a start. There was less messing about with fullbaack to fullback passing.

30 Jul 2016 12:24:30
I know we disagree quite often Degsy, but I can certainly understand where you're coming from this time. Things are going against us. It does feel like we haven't had much luck with transfer targets this summer. For the first time in my lifetime we actually have some decent money to spend on improving the squad, and it seems like either:
a) The players we are aiming for don't want to play for us without Europe, or
b) The players we want are being priced out of the move either by excessive valuation or greedy agents.

I'm starting to get a little edgy, but I like to believe that Walsh is quietly working behind the scenes and that we will have some new players in the next 2 weeks.

30 Jul 2016 12:35:10
Degsy, you are getting more miserable with each post you make! Let's put it into context mate, we played a team, albeit from the German 2nd tier, who are further along the road in pre-season than we are. Therefore, their fitness levels were always going to be a bit better. We didn't play too well at times but, at the same time, we didn't get slaughtered did we? These games are designed to get us fitter and to slowly acclimatise to the new manager and the system he wants us to play. How many friendlies have we played so far? In only a few games did you really expect us to be firing on all cylinders? You are being slightly unrealistic with your assessment.
Bottom 3? Come on man, you really need to have a word with yourself! If RM was in charge then I would have reservations but he is long gone. The football we played that kept us in the bottom half will be nowhere to be seen this season, we will have more than a plan A to mix it up a bit. Yes the squad needs a couple of additions but that will come before the end of the window, no doubts about it. This is not the Everton of old, this is Moshiri's Everton. It's a new era and one which will see us strengthened in every department as FM puts his stamp on the club. Stop getting wound up over friendly games, they have little meaning when you look at the bigger picture. We will be fine Degsy but, for now, it's probably safer if you hand over your belt and your laces to your mrs :)

Jesus boys it was a friendly played with high intensity something the players needed it will be the same today the result means nothing although I would rather win it's all all about getting the players fit to last 90 mins whereas under Roberto del boy was done after 60 mins and the other players didn't do much running.

My missus bought me some new shoelaces yesterday. Asked me to peel the potatoes too. Do you think she is trying to tell me something? Seriously, I am not miserable. What will be will be. I would still be supporting EFC if they were playing Forest Green Rovers every week. I just give my honest assessment on the club and progress. I stated it 3 years ago that we were going backwards and got shouted down then too. A couple of posters got quite abusive towards my posts. But I would be lying if I came on and said I believed the short term future was rosey. I actually believe our long term future is very rosey. Particularly with the signing of Walsh. I had already suggested that the Southampton player spotting system was what made them so good. not particularly Mr Koeman. although he obviously played a part. In Mr Walsh we have an ideal man to support Koeman with astute buys. However, in my very humble opinion (and I was known to be wrong once or twice before) things will have to get worse before they get better. And I hate to see my fellow Blues getting so excited now when they may be totally dejected soon. I see so much wrong with our squad. People are putting too much emphasis on the negative effect of Martinez's coaching. I think his signings were suspect too. But I won't go into my usual previous posts about not getting goalscorers and not replacing ageing players with better ones or younger ones. let's see how we get on against Spurs first.

Dog Puke. You are absolutely right mate. Don't take no notice of degsy. I've never once seem him look at the positives. We've all tried to educate him but sometimes people are just beyond help.

He'd make a great funeral director but he'd never make a manager.

30 Jul 2016 14:28:45
Think she should stop buying you shoes with laces pal, get some with velcro! You are only stating the obvious with regards to Walsh and RK mate, we all know what they are about. But I fail to see why things will get worse before they get better, we have already been through the rough times with RM's last 2 seasons so I can't see how it can get any lower? I don't see this squad being in a relegation battle at all, not under RK anyway. There will be more discipline than RM had previously, players will be kept on their toes rather than be a shoe-in for a starting place regardless of loss of form. I don't think we can ever put too much emphasis on how bad things were under the last manager, he was not good enough to manage a prem team and his last 2 seasons proved as much. I expect more from our new manager. He may have had a few dodgy signings, even the best managers have bought bad players, but that was the least of my problems with Roberto. His stubbornness was unreal, no plan b etc etc.
Again, I have to disagree with your comment 'I hate to see my fellow blues getting so excited now when they may be totally dejected soon'. If we, as fans, can't get excited over the changes we have seen since February then what can we ever get excited about? We have the investment we have craved for decades, we have a well respected manager who has played at the highest level and knows his onions. We have a new DoF who has been proven over a long period of time at various clubs in a scouting role, discovering some gems of the game. We have more cash to spend than we have ever had to improve the squad. New stadium talks have been progressing well and, under FM, it is more likely that we will find a new home. There have been significant changes throughout the club to make us more competitive. That, for me, is something to get excited about in comparison to the barren years we have endured in the premiership era. The future for Everton FC is brighter than it has been for many, many years Degs. Tag along for the ride mate, you might be pleasantly surprised!

I aagree with all you say there spudv except for one bit. So far all the money, Mr Koeman and Mr Walsh and Mr Mori have brought in a 33 year old goalkeeper. At the same time, we have lost 2 of our most creative midfielders and a totally reliable right back who bleeds blue blood. This is on top of quality signings of the standard of Kone, McGeady and Niasse. A Premier League sqad is a max of 25 players. We may yet lose our leading scorer and best prospect since Rooney (in my opinion) . That equals a big chunk of our squad being quite inferior and so far it looks like we are signing no one of immense quality. although I agree that may change. I don't want to go through old stuff again, but the midfielders of Barry, Besic, McCarthy and Cleverly have got less goals than a standard football pitch in a season. If and it is a big if. Lukaku goes I would say we are in a pickle. I do not see any evidence of Mr Koeman being able to set us up in a more disciplined way but yes you may be right and I will wait and see. But whilst all this has been going on, clubs like West Ham, Southampton, Leicester City, our horrible noisey neighbours and the other "top" Euro clubs have all been making signings of some quality. I believe we are lagging behind. Yes Mr Walsh will help with maybe 2 signings now and another couple each transfer window. These players will need time to bed in and this period is the time I mean when I say things might get worse before they get better. Other clubs seem to have their squads sorted. Ours has been neglected.
