This might set the cat amongst the pidgeons. I have been one of Lukaku's biggest admirers and his goalscoring achievements have surpassed everyone before him. Even Messi and Ronaldo had scored fewer goals at his age. But I am beginning towonder if his overall contribution to the team is not enough. I get so frustrated watching him stroll around not closing down defenders. Then I see him watch a clearence float over his head and makeno attempt to challenge. He is a brute but plays like a whimp at times. Sometimes I see him get the ball caught between his feet and surrounded by the opposition and lose possession. I don't know if all his goals are worth losing what we would get with a harder working center forward? Like I say. I don't know. So don't have a go at me for asking the question!

Completely agree. We've never had a player I feel more conflicted over. Week in, week out he seems to play terribly, miscontrolling every touch, standing on the ball and missing chances, yet somehow his goal scoring record is brilliant. It's almost like Rooney for England in the way you watch him and wonder why people think he's good, then hear he's actually scored 10 in 10 even though you barely remember a positive contribution.

I would say I'd prefer a player with a more rounded game, but our scouts history of striker choices is disasterous, and he's clearly the best we've had in decades, so I guess we'll just have to shut up and take the good with the bad.

It's ok looks like bayern Munich are after him for 65m.

I saw that this morning. my only issue is where will efc get abother 20 goal a season striker from.
Two names mentioned in the press though strootman and semedo are centre mid and centre back. I have seen us linked, confirmed by edoo2 with a strike called federico santander. but is he as good as the lake, who for all his perceived faults, know where the net is.

Cheeky swap deal for lewandowski anyone 😀.

I don't see Messi or Ronaldo closing down defenders. In Lukaku defence his Everton career he always plays lone striker. His touch is not the bests but he is the best striker we had for decades but I feel he is not let say taking to heart by fans because he seem to be using Everton as a stepping stone to the top clubs in Europe. In the last 3 years he been our only threat. I do agreed our other strikers we have bought have been very poor.

Bring Niasse in.

I agree. Martinez excepted this atitude, hopefully koeman can bring a more alround striker out of him, i would prefer him to share the goals with another forward possibly like sharp and heath done and more before them. he doesn't have to play as the only scorer as we struggle when he's out of the game.

Be careful what you ask for. We had Straq a grafter, but no goal scorer. Agree Rom can be a lazy bugger, but you can't blame him for teams problems. We have no creativity in midfield, if we did he would score more goals. Defenders were getting the ball yesterday but having nobody to give it to, as our midfielders were walking around doing nothing. I would suggest Ross goes and plays for the under 23s, and gets some pace back into his game. Can't keep making excuses for him.

To say Messi and Ronaldo do not close down defenders is just plain wrong. They are 2 of the most industrious players around. Both work really hard for the team. Ronaldo is superb at defending and especially in the air on set pieces. I just wonder if a 15 goal a season striker would be better if he worked hard to create things for others? The likes of Pelle who was at Southampton. He never scored as many but was always bringing others into the game. Shane Long too. There are a few about. Yes Lukaku scores 20 a season. Some are quite outstanding individual efforts. others are tap ins. But yesterdays assist to Bolasie was a mistake and how often do you see him holding the ball up to lay it off for someone else to score. Not often that's for sure.

I was comparing them to closing down defenders not their over all play. Which to me is 1 aspect of the game. To me some fans will never like Lukaku.

I suggested Shane Long in the summer and had some posters saying we should be aiming for a higher calibre of player. I would still likea to see Long at Everton as he is the type of player we need to play with there back to goal to help Lukaku.

Blue1959 I am one of Lukaku's biggest supporters. I was delighted when we got him. We have not had a 20 a year striker for some time. But my question was a question. I do see him looking like a lazy arsed whump of a giant when he could be a brute. We all know that he scores goals. but my questio was what else does he bring to the team? And would we be better off with a forward that linked with other players better. It is no coincideence that Mirallas who has scored goals for fun throughout the whole of his career is struggling now. There may be other reasons for that but I just don't see Lukaku creating goals for anyone else. I do see other center forwards in other teams and past ones at Everton scoring less but contributing more assists to the team.
