Even if we were offered Rooney for a nominal fee, his age, his form and his wages, all make it unlikley that the club would be tempted.

Why is everyone against Rooney how old is Gareth Barry and look what he's done and what he's still doing for us. Bring him home I say.

25 Oct 2016 23:10:38
Agreed Anglesey blue. We all know his best years are behind him. What no one knows is if he is finished or there is still a little in the tank. He could be going through a bad patch.

I like your comparisons to Barry Anglesey and I posted about it before. It contradicts the theory which many have that Rooney started early therefore will finish early. Barry is proof that doesn't have to be the case.

Only thing is Rooney was going at 100 mile an hour for every game. Think it was Gary Neville who said Rooney was unreal eager to get onto the pitch no matter who they were playing. He always wanted to get onto the pitch and give his all.

That may have took a lot out of him. Or it may not. It could be a rough patch he's going through and he may spring back. Not to the heights he had before but could come back to having a few more seasons in the premiership.

I know I'd love to see it. I guess we will all know in time.

Totally different with Barry due to the position he plays. Rooney is not the player we need to move forward. Let the past stay in the past.

26 Oct 2016 08:08:49
Good job Kendall didn't listen to the fans when we brought in a Crocked Peter Reid and a last pay day Andy Gray.

If we move in January for Rooney, for me it would be a great addition, I could not care one bit about the badge kissing after having you fat you know what rammed down his throat Everytime he touched the ball beforehand

We were on our arse, the Rooney money helped us invest in half a dozen players, we were going nowhere, on the other hand Utd were the undoubted kings of the premier league, his medals is proof he made the right choice.

Would he is mprove our current team, most definitely, no brainer for me, get him back on n the January window.

26 Oct 2016 08:12:22
I'd have him back in a heart beat. There are too many pluses for me and just one negative. Play him up front. He's a goal scorer, always was and always will be. I'd have him back sooner than sign some continental player who made a good YouTube video.

To chuck my two peneth in, I will ask some questions and give answers as I see them.
Is Rooney still an Evertonian? Yes. see his twitter message to Michael Owen.
Do we need support for Rom up front? Undoubtedly.
Do we have an excess of money? Yes
Did we find it difficult in the last transfer window to sign players wanting to come to us? Undoubtedly.
Could he be on his last legs? Possibly. but he could also have another 3 years at the top.
Would it be a high profile signing that might attract other players to us? Possibly.
The more I ask myself this series of questions, the more I think that it might just work. But then I ask one other question. would Man Utd let him go? I actually doubt it. I suspect they are giving him a kick up the arse to get himmotivated again. which brings me to my final question. do players sometimesneed a change of clubs in order to re-start their careers? Yes yes yes!

26 Oct 2016 09:02:47
I'm glad I'm not the only one who would have him back yes he does give his all every day then play him as a holding midfielder the way he can take and pass a ball he wouldn't have to run all game. at least another 5 years out of him.

26 Oct 2016 09:45:43
Rooney is not a midfielder at all in any shape of the word. He is a striker.

When he plays in midfield he slows the play down and spends too much time on the ball and that is why United play better without him as they play the ball quicker.

As a striker he no longer has a burst of acceleration and cannot run at speed for 20 meters. He also can't last 90 minutes on a pitch any longer at that 80-100% so you have to have a sub ready for him every game.

For me he fits a short term plan for someone but with the money you will have to fork out in wages, agent fees and whatever it is not the most sensible option to take.

This smacks of the Gascoigne, Ginola type purchases we used to make. Just because he is Rooney and he used to play for us over 10 years ago and he supports Everton doesn't make this a more attractive proposition.

On the field he hasn't been performing at the wrong end of the age scale. Imagine the stick he'll get if he truly is past it.

Lets think of the future and let the past be the past.

Good post that Degsy good insight to Wayne cheers, GuernseyBlue.

26 Oct 2016 12:00:45
No one seems to think that maybe Rooney would not want to play for us.

If indeed he is coming to the end of his career then he would know in his heart of hearts that he is no longer the player he once was. If that is the case then as a supporter of the club, would he be willing to rejoin us knowing he would possibly be a hindrance in our future plans. If his form has lost it's edge on a permanent basis then I would like to think he would put our club first and turn down a move to us.

If on the other hand he believes he still has the edge then I think he will be a very welcome addition. At the end of the day only Rooney knows if he still has that golden touch.

26 Oct 2016 12:17:10
Got to agree with what BlueJohnUns has put and I'm firmly in the camp of not taking him back. He will go to China or the States for another big payday IMO and fair play to him. I would rather look at the long term rather than short term and continue to build for the future rather than having a stop gap.

26 Oct 2016 12:17:49
Rooney gave his best days to Man U, let them keep him. If we are truly in transition then we need to look forwards not back. The Premier league is a high energy league, we need to be looking to bring in good young players who can play to that level. Barry has been good for us, but does he dominate games. No he is fortunate to play in a position where he does not have to work box to box. But even Gareth is looking a bit sluggish now, hence the amount of bookings he picks up. I don't believe Ron will bring in players just to please a few fans. If you look at his Southampton team, they had high energy pacey players. Would think that's what he will be looking for in the future. Could you lmagine Rooney back at Goodison, one poor game and he would get hammered by the supporters. No let the lad go to the USA, pick up a few more million, and then if he truly loves the club he can come back and invest in it. Move on with Ron.

26 Oct 2016 17:16:34
Rooney would never be a striker like Latchford, Sharpe, Gray or even Lukaku no matter what team he's in.

26 Oct 2016 18:17:07
Sod the long term future, I want a fix now, he still has a good few seasons left in n him, that will help for now, hopefully attract undecided dithering players to sign, give our youngsters that little bit longer longer to step up and will offer what we are lacking in, a footballing brain.

26 Oct 2016 20:18:59
No point having a football brain if you don't have the body to go with it. I know let's bring back Gazza, he had a good footballing brain. Surprised you don't want Giggs and Scholes too. If we have money then invest it in quality young players, not 30 plus just because they once wore the shirt.

26 Oct 2016 21:11:48
I remember watching Gazza in a blue shirt, Rooney would knock spots off him even in 10 years time.

27 Oct 2016 00:33:07
It comes down to one question to me. Would Rooney improve our squad by being in it? My answer is yes. So therefore sign him up I say.

Just my opinion.

27 Oct 2016 10:48:43
Absolutely nail on the head stuff NBTB. Even at his slowest ageing years he has to be better that any forward thinking midfielders we have. The discussion of cost is no longer relevant and the other argument that we can sign better is too. Who is better than Rooney that we can sign? Or will want to sign for us? Think back to a month ago. oh yes we are signing: Sissoko. oh no we are not. That's ok because we are signing: Hart. oh no we are not. Ok we are signing: Gabbiadini. Martina. Kone. Brahimi. the list goes on. Some might have been rumours, but it is obvious to me that as yet we are not the club that players are running to sign for. I doubt for one minute that Man Utd are ready to let him go. but if there is the slightest miniscule chanceof us getting him. I say go for it. To compare him with Gascoine and Ginola is crazy. Both of them were past it. Rooney I guess still has at least 2 or 3 more years. To compare him with Giggs and Scholes is great. didn't both of them go on until like 38 and 36 respectively? Perhaps Rooney can. Giggs in his last 2 or 3 seasons changed his game and dropped into less of a fast winger role and into a holding passer. Why can't Rooney do that. but he is also still better than what we have going forwards. Emotion because he left us should not ccome into it. but I suspect some posters on here are allowing that into their thoughts.
