Of our current aged-over-21 players, how many are either:
already past it;
or are at an age where they soon will be past it;
or are too set in their ways to adapt and play the RK way;
or have just lost it - if they ever had "it" in the first place;
or basically just aren't good enough?
To put it another way: how many of our current aged-over-21 squad would definitely hold down a regular starting place in a decent Champions Legue team? Other clubs would obviously take our players, but would they be elite clubs and would it be as anymore than as squad players?

Would imagine only Lukaku, Gana and possibly Coleman would fit that profile. Williams potentially as well but probably in the past it bracket, although I reckon he still has 2-3 years in him.

Agree Sid. If we are to get anything out of this season then we have to get more energy in to the side, change the old guard and give youth a chance. It's not like we're going to win anything this season, or get relegated. And please can we forget Europe it's not going to happen. This should be seen as a season of opportunity, play/ purchase players who have ambition and are hungry. Otherwise it will be another season of what could have been, but will never be.

I agree with them 3 Windsor and maybe Williams. Also think Barkley if leaving would at least go to a club of equal stature to Everton. If not to a team competing in Europe. Can't see him going to a so called lesser team.

Them 5 are players we should try our best to hold onto. Unfortunately we haven't a big selling point when attracting new players. We can't offer European football or the big lights of London.

That's when you need a shrewd person recruiting and money. Which we seem to have. Walsh is obviously among the elite in his job. We also have investment. But instead of a big clear out I expect it to be a gradual process to continually improve on the players we have.

Don't want to mention Moyes much but a similar approach I would expect. When Walter Smith took over we had an aging squad that needed an overhaul. By the time Moyes was finished we had a massively improved squad. It took time and patience.

Don't see any quick fix at the moment. I'd expect a similar type approach to that of the past to bring us to the next level.

It's very hard to break into the top 4. We would need an obscene amount of money to have a clear out and then just buy in a bunch of players. Look at Utd. How much have they spent since Fergie left and they are still trying to get into the top 4 again. Beaten by Chelsea 4-0 last weekend.

So I don't think we are doing too badly. Utd must of spent up on £500m since Fergie left and Chelsea still trashed them. We have fans freaking out because we got trashed by them also. Yes its bad and it hurts but it could be worse.

We could be like Utd after spending all that money and jeopardising the future of the club. Or we could be like Sunderland and Hull. No money and struggling.

Imho we are improving and as long as we are doing that I'm happy. Koeman and Walsh are only here a wet week. Give Koeman 2 years and then see where we are at. It will take time and for Koeman and Walsh to work their magic.

{Ed025's Note - good post that NBTB but it still hurts mate..

Best post I've seen for a while that nb.

Well said NBTB. For me Koeman got it wrong with three at the back. It brought a man out of midfield and they dominated it.

He changed it early on but at 2 nil down it wasn't going to work. To be fair to Chelsea they looked really good as well.

As for the players? We've got a good squad of players but it will take time to move on to that next level. We haven't been shopping off the top table like the Chelseas so give it time.

We know who we have and we know players need to come in but we can't do it all in one window and we definitely can't do it when the windows closed.

Feel sick from it but focus on the next game and move on.
