Although clubs generally want to keep their best players, most clubs - especially in Europe - are willing to transfer out players if they get a good enough offer.
It's the fans (especially in England) who (quite naturally) are emotionally attached to, particular players. Their adoration for a favourite can quickly flip to hatred if the player leaves- especially to join a rival club.
As Mr Moshiri said, it's Monopoly money these days, but every club still has to look at the best deals for itself and if that means transferring out a player then so be it. As long imho as the club is improving year-on-year on and off the field, then my rational side is OK with that.

Absolutely agree mate. The FFP rules mean the days of an Abromovic coming in and chucking money at the squad are gone. It needs someone with a bit of dosh but more importantly a vision and a plan. let's hope our plan can be made a long term goal with real chances.

How many do you see us signing sid? And who do you think will go.

Efcfanatic: I can see us signing at least 3 players and wouldn't be surprised if we recruit even more - 5 or 6 - in January. These will be first-teamers, but we might also recruit some promising players to develop in the U23s.
The incoming number will, no doubt be balanced by outgoings - Niasse almost certainly, McCarthy very likely, and a few out-of-favour players also likely to leave (permanent or loan) .
We need to watch our transfer and wage spending under the FFP regulations, so don't expect lots of Galacticos!
Also, we can only register a squad of 25 aged-over-21 players, so I see no point in keeping any unregistered overage players (like McAleny) .
Players like Garbutt and Galloway are returning from loan and will need to have their futures considered.
I can see quite a few U23/ U18 players going out on loan, as they clearly need the competitive intensity of lower-tier football to fully develop.
It's a risk to have too much disruption, but I reckon that RK has now made his mind up about what is needed and SW is on the case with the scouting and recruiting.
We the fans must be patient and not get overly upset if some of our favourites move on.

Cheers sid. we do need a few, creative midfield reinforcements and a new striker top of the list for me.
