We have alwys known Lukaku can be a special player. He was scoring 20 odd a season in a struggling team. Now Koeman has started assembling a squad that is starting to show some promise, I just hope and pray that Lukaku does not want to bugger off to some other club too soon. I just hope he can see what is happening and also get some consistency into his game. Because he is not blameless in all of this. There have been many games over the last few seasons whereby he might well have been sat at home. We saw last week the ability he has. He was unplayable. What we need now is that Lukaku to start turning up every week and giving the defence some goals to defend. When Koeman has got this balance right, we should be up there with the so called top clubs.

I think Lukaku is beginning to realize how much he can learn under Koeman's tutelage. If we get into Europe this year I believe Lukaku will stay at least one more year providing we give him a new contract which is satisfactory to him. My worry is not only Lukaku leaving but Koeman leaving when teams like Barcelona come calling. Key to keeping manager and players is the speed we can develop the team, get into Europe on a regular basis and build a new stadium. We are beginning to look like an exciting prospect for the future and hopefully this will attract and keep ambitious people who want to be part of it.

Alas, look how much Stones may have learnt from Koeman had he had given us another year. Koeman being one of the greatest ever ball playing centre backs of our time. (Thanks for the business anyway John)

Yes I was thinking exactly the same when I wrote the above message Kingo. Stones is an excellent example of a player who, for whatever reason, made a poor decision and could well live to regret it.

I still feel he is a player with 'great potential' although the potential only lasts so long. Don't think he'll be given the time and effort he would have if he stayed with is. But, obviously, he's made his decision, is not an obvious choice to start now and we did 'pretty good' out of it. Holgate is our next project now and hopefully he sees what Stones did and learns from it.

Don't think he will ever regret it mate, all he has to do is look at his bank balance. I'm sure that will cheer him up. 😀.

The futures bright the futures blue.
The foundations have been laid for us to build with the recruitment of RK and SW and also the development of the U23 with Unsworth and Royle.
The key to maintaining our momentum is keeping our best players and adding more quality.

I read his agent is making noises about Rom signing a new contract, if this is true then the club is in a no lose situation. If he goes, he will command a large transfer fee, if he stays then we get to keep a goal scoring machine. He may be hard to replace, no doubts there, but we will get a record breaking fee (a few more quid than when we sold Stones) so not all is lost.
He may have looked lazy or disinterested at times, we can't argue that fact. But he is still relatively young, this tends to get overlooked at times, and has reached a more than decent goal to game average. I maybe slightly biased but I think he should give us another season, one where RK has got the players in that he wants to improve the squad, and see if he can help fire us to champs league football. Let's be honest, the only teams that could afford him already have top strikers in place. Would he be happy not playing week in week out?

Not sure that is correct Woburnblue. Most of these young players have enough money to last them the rest of their lives unless they are stupid with it. You only had to look at Stones face when he was at Goodison several weeks ago to see he is not happy. Most of these young players want to be successful and play on a regular basis and if Stones continues the way he is doing he will not be playing regular football, at least for City.

Off to Barcelona then.

First impressions seem to show Deloufeu is doing good with Milan. Someone like Barcelona may well take a punt. Stones is slightly unfortunate that the City project does not seem to be working. Its not only him that is not playing well. City as a whole are playing under par.
