Ok obviously season over and players on the beach. 7th is massive progress (in my opinion) from last season. Especially defensively. From reading this forum and watching games this is what i feel.

Defence

Defo need a keeper. Keep jags but dump Williams and probably mori, keep the kids (holgate, pennington, etc to see how they develop) , worried about baines' form over the last 18 past months or so. His set pieces are nowhere near the quality he used to be (last time he scored free kick? )

Need 4 players (gk, 2x cb, lb)

Midfield
Keep gana, Schneiderlin, Davies whatever the cost. Besic not had a run (not sure if he still injured but give him pre season to see if rk likes him) . May keep McCarthy (injury prone though) but Barry needs to become coach. (Again try to develop the promising youngsters)

Need maybe 1/ 2 players (Probably our strongest area)

Attack

Unfortunately Rom will leave (probably) so we need to get as much as we can for him. Obviously we will need 2 top strikers (or 1 and dolberg or a player who will see us as a stepping stone)
Think kev may go and valencia.
I'd keep lookman and Ross (needs a huge confidence boost and to believe he is a good footballer. I would get Ross to meet with stevie g and learn how he took control of games single handed. )

Need 4 players. (2x st, lw, am)

So looks like we going to need up to 10 players if all the discussions on here are right about who we want rid of.

Its going to be a very interesting and stressful summer for us blues BUT come September 1st we need to show our 100% support to every player in a blue shirt, whether we agree with them or not. Rk and sw have my trust and onwards and upwards blues.

Agree5 Disagree1

That's a lot of players for one window. I would say this window, GK quality CB AND cover at RB. McCarthy for another season as we have looked good when he has played. I'm on the fence on Basic but I guess he does deserve a season to prove he has enough quality. Keep Ross if he signs but I say this only because if he doesn't perform next season his sell on price due to the length of contract would be higher but personally I don't see him with is long term. Rom is definitely off so 2 quality strikers and a 10 goal a season AM. Hopefully lookman will get some game time and we get Bolasie back before January.

Forgot about bolasie tbh. I like him. Had he ever played number 10? Could he be competition for Barkley or would that be lookman or calvert-Lewin?

10 players is a lot but just going on what's been said on here. I do think there will be quite a few changes both in and out. Old school traditions of sort the defence out first may be followed. As I said be interesting summer.

Inho Holgate is a first team player. Therefore is well capable of being either right back understudy or a centre back. Personally I'd try him at centre back next season and gradually play him in there along with the existing centre backs we have.

Still imo Gk, right back cover and centre back needed. Maybe a left back as well but one Gk and one centre back would be priority for me. I think we would do very well to get 2 quality players for these positions.

Midfield imho we are more than covered. We will need them all next season because of Europe and injuries. Then we will be one less with Barry most likely retiring.

I agree an attacking midfielder is needed. Whether we keep Barkley or not. Wingers one or two if we can but not essential.

Striker imo we need one even if Lukaku does not go. If he goes which is probably going to happen we need 2.

So in summary for me Gk, centre back attacking midfielder and at least one striker is priority. That's a minimum of 4 players. Achievable. If we get proper quality in these 4 areas imho the transfer window would be a success.

For the other areas mentioned all the better if they are improved. We also have good young players coming through. Imho the 4 signings mentioned and a few youngsters given a chance would improve our team enormously.

Realistically I think that's as good as we can hope for. Getting any more than say 6 signings is just not going to happen. Even potentially there may be 6 players leaving. Tried to mention as few individual players as possible as that opens a whole new can of worms in this debate.

At the moment everyone is deflated by our latest results. For me we are a little better than our recent performances. Overall we are improving loads.

Heard a good saying today, perfection will never be achieved, improving will just have to do. If we keep doing that I'm happy.

Koeman has said he already has more than enough youngsters in the squad and I have to agree. Holgate, Davies, lookman and Calvert Lewin is enough with possibly one more to fatten the squad for European football.
We could also possibly end up with a young striker when Rom goes. I do agree with the above though our midfield is well covered.

07 May 2017 13:06:35
Completely agree with all the above. As i have said before if we can mix quality new signings with good young players and a quality manager and New stadium we have the foundations for a successful few years. Hopefully.

Totally geoffjohno. Future is bright.

I agree with what a lot are saying but I would be pretty tempted to cash in on McCarthy if a decent offer comes in, forever getting injured and puts himself at risk of further injury with the whole Ireland debacle. I want players to represent their country but not at a longer term risk!
Goalkeeper is a must
One CB is a must possibly two if the right player is available otherwise I would wait for a later window.
Left back I would let one of the youngsters prove themselves as backup to Baines unless we could snare someone like Kolasinac
Right back needs a starter as Coleman will be out sometime a Trippier or similar would be good
Midfield needs someone to open defences a Tielemens in the middle and a new winger and I would love to move for Sigurdsson.
Up top we need a striker definitely I would go for two one of which who is happy to play through the middle of out wide
Will all come in one window? Possibly not and if they did we'd need them in early so the team could gel, preseason and europa would need to be competitive!
Have to wait and see what Koeman and Walsh do ☺️.

Hear hear. Good to hear some positive posts on here and not the usual doom and gloom we get after a poor result.

07 May 2017 13:27:45
Yes Smit666 plenty of youngsters which is great. Could easily add another 3 or 4 to your list. Point was we have those without signing players. No doubt some of them will perform. They have to be factored in.

I don't know how we replace Baines. He has been one if the best performers this season. He hasn't been taking the set pieces as much but in every other part of his game he is still up there. Coleman's injury though has proved to me why he will be captain next season. When he is not in that team the leadership disappears.

Forget Barkley and Rom we should build a team around these two!

If Rom, Ross and Kev go I doubt we would get in the top four as the new guys that come in have to get used to each other. This doesn't bother me so much and still think next season is too soon. These three for me made progress this year but not enough but Roms attitude is detrimental to the team.

I'm really looking forward to the next two years but it is still a team we will have to be patient with. Success is just around the corner.

Getting 10 in would be a hard task but it won't be 10. If you include the on loan players that have returned or due to return and EV going back to the Hammers that's a possible turn over of 20 players. If only the older players leave and the players younger players coming back into the squad are deemed good enough for the 1st team then you've got: two CBs a LB, CAM/ F, L/ RW and two S back in the squad. Either way its going to be very difficult to change that amount of players in one window and bring in all that people are hoping for. I'm with the guys who see the task as a long term project. I believe it will take at least another season before we see a squad RK is totally confident with and then we can judge if he will be a success or not, ie a serious challenge to the top 4. If we bring in a quality GK, CAM and S then anything else is a bonus depending on what happens with the returning loanee's.
