Good win for the Blues tonight, can't wait for the Europa QF now. What's everyone's thoughts on Renato Sanchez from Bayern? BM telling Milan (also Europa League) they want €48m for him. That's less than Swansea want for Gylfi! Eds. no chance on this one?! Cheers.

Sanchez poses a gamble whereas Gylfi is proven in the prem. I'm not denying he's a hot young talent. But if we're talking fees, then I'd spend the money on what poses e lesser risk.

Why limit ourselves with this 'proven in the prem' stuff? It's not like prem teams do well against these players in Europe. While we all remember some failures (Soldado, Schevchenko) , equally there are loads of players who came to the prem for the first time and turned out to be brilliant - especially in the playmaker position. Eriksen? Silva? Coutinho? Hazard? Mata? Özil? Would you really have paid more for someone 'in the prem' than for these players?

Hadn't thought about that before coyb but a very good point. Maybe it's to do with the physicality of the league in that strikers get pushed around by big CBs and DMs whereas creative attacking midfielders can still dictate a game?

That said there's a fair few foreign strikers that have done OK - Drogba, Henry etc.

I take your point WB, but all those guys are small yet still manage the physicality. And let us never forget those 'proven in the prem' players who turned out to be garbage: Torres and Carroll. Having said that, we do need to bear in mind there is often an adjustment for players who come from slower-paced leagues or sunnier climates and tbf some never quite fulfill expectations - I guess you can say is one fewer risk factors, but not enough in my view to ignore talent elsewhere or pay an extra £20 million for.
