Looks like Sig deal is not going to be done and i'm not overly bothered, technically, if form from Ajax is replicated, Klaassen can do just as good a job so for me it isn't a drama. We can reassess in Jan if need be.

Our priorites must absolutely be a goal scorer. Sandro looked bright and i feel is going to do well, but replacing Roms goals is a tough ask so we really need a solid target man or poacher who can consistently hit 15-20 goals. The 40m earmarked for Sig should get us a very decent forward. I would love Giroud but honestly see him staying at Arsenal if a move to France doesn't happen. Welbeck would be fab but injuries worry me and i doubt Arsenal would sell. Is it worthwhile taking a punt on an experienced (old) player who offers value and goals until the right man could be found? Obviously we haven't been linked but someone who could be available is Arjen Robben, but high wages and trying to get him to consider Everton would be tough. I really like the guy at Bilbao, Aritz Aduriz. Scary age at what 35? But last couple of years seems to be better than ever. Not ideal targets i know but right now i just can't see anybody who we can bring in for a long term future.

Agree2 Disagree1

Would martial not fit the bill? Goalscorer, out of favour, not given a real chance as a number 9 striker, young to develop with us for a number of years, control is good aswell which we have missed having hungry hippo up front the last 3 seasons.

{Ed025's Note - very talented young man craig but has flaws in his personality a very poor work ethic and an attitude problem, thats why he is out of favour at utd and why we should stay well clear mate..

As Ed says, it's the attitude. I imagine very expensive too. I think options are limited for a great team player who grafts. For the time being i would just be happy to get someone who can score on a regular basis because i think we have a hardworking midfield who will create opportunities. Pace and trickery would be nice of course but you can see why the likes of Defoe are still in demand at the tailend of their career, they score and that's the desired attribute.

Sorry Worcester have to disagree, Gylfi would be ideal player for us. We still don't have anyone who can take a decent corner . This guys class. He has matured into a very good player since his days with Spurs, and that is what we're paying for.
He can control the tempo of a game, were as Klassen is drive forward type of player. Having Gylfi on one side and Klassen on the other would create a major headache for any team. Just need a big target man up top for him to aim at.
I for one hope this deal still happens.

ive said before he would be a good addition if signed, but i just don't think he is needed, especially at the asking price. If Sig comes in then it's Tom D who will lose out on a regular basis and that's just a travesty, he earned his place last year and shouldn't have more competition put in his way now. We don't need him and that's the simple fact, we just want to add him because we can.

01 Aug 2017 06:36:50
Worcester that is a good plan but only if we want to stay in 7th for the rest of eternity. To challenge the top 4 we need proven quality which is what siggurdson is. Tom D is the man for a few years down the line or will be a good squad player now.

Disagree about Davis He will need regular football to improve I would expect if we signed Sig then his game time would be severely limited so would his development. I see EFC as being in a transitional stage we have a lot of good English youngsters that need development being in Europe will aide that as I expect them to get more game time. We had a strong season and hopefully will build on that but as long as we keep progressing I am not too bothered if we don't make the top 4 this season. An aspiration yes but not a bench mark for failure. It took Spuds a long time to break up top 4 cartel I think some need a little more patience if we are to be a force for the foreseeable future another 2 or 3 seasons at least. COYB.

What you talking about smit? With our improvements already, we can push for 5th or 6th, maybe squeak 4th. Tom D is not the finished article by any means but to stop him getting game time because he's the man for a few years time is crazy. He needs to play to develop. If we keep signing players who block his path then it will only be a matter of time before he wants out.
I keep saying that i agree Sig would be a good addition if signed but why can't people see that he is not needed? We have Rooney, Klaassen, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Tom D, Lookman, Bolasie, Barry, Mirralas. that's 9 players for limited spots and i'm not counting the likes of McCarthy, Besic, Calvert-Lewin.
Someone said we need him because we can't take a decent corner. Firstly Rooney can. 2nd, if a team pays 50m for a corner taker then its just insanity.
I just think, like my original post said, we should be looking to add a striker and perhaps another cb before looking to spend more crazy money in midfield.

Klassen is more likely to limit Toms game time not Siggurdson. Siggurdson will most likely rotate with Rooney, Barkley if he stays and mirallas. With Europa league Tom will most likely get 15-20 games this season and that is fine for any young lad.
If we get injuries to Rooney, mirallas or even Klassen we will need a deep squad.

01 Aug 2017 18:24:01
My point exactly Smit.

01 Aug 2017 19:07:26
You said nothing of the sort Woburnblue.

I do see your point to an extent Smit, 20 games for Tom would be fair, but personally i just don't see the need at 50m. If he was half that price then I'd be all for signing him but such a high price just signals bad business to me when we need to invest in a forward more importantly.

01 Aug 2017 19:30:43
Having Rooney take corners is insane. We have bought him in for his goals, siggurdson for his assists. It would make sense for him to take corners or Baines and Bolasie.

01 Aug 2017 20:14:06
They will all get a clutch of games Worcester. With a possibility of over 50 games we need them. The Thursday and sunday games will take it out of them especially Rooney and siggurdson can play that position.

01 Aug 2017 22:06:50
There's nothing insane about Rooney taking corners, it's something he's often done throughout his career. The point of them is predominantly to get a big man targeted to head home, that's why defenders are always up there. Rooney is not someone who is known as a scorer of headed goals.

01 Aug 2017 23:06:14
Rooney will be lethal with a corner headed down to him in or around the box. Why waste that. Leave him to the odd free kick and let siggurdson and Baines stick it on the big mans head if we sign one.
