Unsworn names Ashley Williams as Captain for the game against Lyon, says it all for me definitely not our future manager, what a decision.

Agree5 Disagree2

Unsworth grrr.

01 Nov 2017 19:01:33
Agreed, first he ought to be dropped for his poor form and second he ought to be on a club ban for his conduct in the home game against lyon. Unsworth no thanks and the club's director of football your silence is deafening.

I was all for giving Unsworth a chance and to be honest we have looked better, where the problem lies is we have Jagielka, Baines, both great servents but now slowing down and Ashley Williams, yes we need a centre forward, but our big flaw is our defence, fix that and we will see results follow, is it time to give Garbutt a run out, ho can we get to plug the centre half position because more than a centre forward even, we are very weak at the back. No manager including Ancelotti or any top manager named, is going to fix that defence before January, so we either gamble and give a couple of the youngsters a go, or we stick in hope the defence finds some form.

See were you are coming from mate but not so long ago we had the best defence around, players don't get bad over night, don't really know what the answer is.

Need a Manager that is going to stand up to player power, picking Williams and then naming him as Captain when he is so plainly out of form is a sign of naivety by Unsworth, it must be because I refuse to believe Unsworth lacks bottle.

The only reason I see a manager giving the captains armband is it normally has a positive effect on the player in question, if Keane is fit, I would have played Keane but looks like he may be saved for Sunday’s game.

The don't get bad GuernseyBlue but they do get older, this then makes them defend deeper and deeper in order to not get exposed, I am not a manager a coach or even a master tactician but even I can see the space between the back line and midfield is huge and even when we have possesion in the opposition half our back line is still 20 yards in their own half, look at both Leicesters goals and you will see that. The only way to combat this is to play younger defenders, Garbutt, Holgate, Keane and Coleman when fit would be my backline.
This same problem occurs up top when Rooney starts as well, watch how deep he comes and offers no outlet for the midfield.
I watched Burnley's line when we played them at Goodison and the organisation and position was the polar opposite to ours and this is how the manager sets them up and therefore as much as he ain't a foreign name, Dyche would get us back to basics hopefully and stabilise for maybe 2 to 3 years before we bring in a more adventurous glamorous name.

{Ed025's Note - your spot on with the defence and midfield being miles apart gray, as well as rooneys part in this debacle mate..

Point taken mate, agree with that.

that backline would be my pick also Bluegray but until Coleman is fit slot Kenny in his position. Eventually that will be the defence.
