Just an observation. Sam allardyce quoted as saying that "Everton fans don't want potential". my first reaction to that is what utter trash. imo Everton fans (in the main do) . if we consider lookman, Davis, Kenny, vilasic, beningamie, holgate, dcl ( in the current crop) most fans want these lads to be given a chance. but it feels that some of these lads weren't given a fair crack. namely vilasic and lookman (imo) . and indeed big Sam did them no favours. so he should look a little closer to home. Everton fans don't expect players with potential to play for 90 mins, every game, but we would like to see them get a run out for 25-30 mins as a sub, or get the odd start. especially when the team seem lacking in a particular area, in a particular game. which I saw a lot of last season. look at what lookman did in Germany. did liepzig get it wrong? Comments like allardyces create the wrong impression.
If he is trying to say that Everton fans are impatient. then yes to a certain extent we are. and there have been times at goodison over last 3-4 years were some quarters were toxic. but that's shear frustration. built upon being a league winning and trophy winning side of yerteryear only to feel left stagnating. maybe fans have gone about some things a little wrong, but they/ we need to be given time to learn, grow and adjust and manage expectations also during this new dynasty. just like the club and players do. let's not forget Everton fans have been loyal for many years. always spending their hard earned money, filling goodison park even in poor poor seasons. in my opinion best fans in the world. media should consider this when spouting cack.

I follow you clearly. Just an alternative considering I am no fan of Sam.
He came in when we were a mess.
We knew what we were getting (A relegation stopper who plays boring football)
We are impatient but I look to the top on why we failed (No Kaku replacement) (Slow number 10's) (Buying for the sake of it)
Lookman was already gone when Sam arrived.
Who did he actually buy? (Tosun maybe who has not been that bad.
It sounds like I am a lover of his and I am not, but we all thought great year coming up and we failed. 8th position with what we had and our position before he arrived is not an epic fail.
{Ed001's Note - Lookman wasn't gone and he bought no one, Tosun was not his choice, hence why he denigrated him constantly.}

I agree smeggs. when he came we were in a mess. had unsworth turned a corner? well it's purely speculation but I think he had. However, lookman didn't go until January and beningamie and vilasic who had been given game time by unsworth, got none under Sam. so regarding using players with potential. Sam didn't, despite the fans wanting it (certainly based upon conversations with my buddies) . For him to then say the fans don't want potential is some what bizarre. fans didn't want lookman to go but he allowed him to. I think my main point is that the fans do want young lads to be given a chance. at the same time they were/ are craving progression/ success and understandably have maybe gotten a little carried away since moshiri came in. now I sense that there is a little more realism and patience. as I said we (the fans) need to be afforded time/ patience to calm down and manage expectations. hopefully just like team under this new Mgmt.

Ed001, what’s your view on Silva? A good fit for Everton or something else? Would you say that it’s a better appointment due to the recruitment strength that Brands brings? My concern is the amount of clubs he’s had at the age of 40, but then he has improved every one of them in the short time he’s been there.
{Ed001's Note - it is hard to say, as he does not stay long enough to really show what he is capable of. I do have worries about how disorganised the defences are of the teams he manages. Long term that will be an issue. A lot will depend on whether the lack of fitness at Watford was down to his training methods or is just a Watford problem, as they always suffer with a lack of fitness for their players. Which is why they always fade away after a good start. I would hope that is not going to be a problem at Everton. But we will only know when he has had time to settle in.
The recruitment side of things looks to be much improved over previous seasons and that is key. He needs to have the right players, not just good players but good players that fit his system and style of play. It looks like the club are doing a good job of bringing the right ones in.}

Cheers Ed001. Ultimately if he can stay a while and keep improving the team then he will hopefully change people’s perceptions. No one really criticises his coaching for good reason, so add some stability with a few years at the club and all going well we could have a quality set up going into a new stadium. If Carling did EFC.

Agree with all of that. it's going to be an interesting few weeks in the short term. but they could form the basis of a very interesting few years.

Agree Silva is a good up and coming Coach and the advantage at our Club is it seems at last we have the underlying structure (DoF plus! ) to support him, I look forward with hope to the potential he brings. Looking at his History he has done well at his European Clubs, but he most certainly has not improved the Clubs he has been at in the Premiership, (Hull relegated and Watford fell off) . The recruitment of Richarlison and the fee paid does seem an awful lot and as before stated by me and others there has to be a Silva premium in there somewhere. We shall see what we shall see. I am ever hopeful as I am every season.

{Ed002's Note - I would doubt it will be a few years. Five jobs in three or four years.}

I think he did improve both English clubs. Hull were dead and buried when he took over, they were eventually relegated but not before they put up a massive fight that was nowhere to be seen under Phelan. And Watford were fighting for Europe until we did all but sign him.
Let’s face it, if he wasn’t improving them then why turn down our compensation offer of £10m.

Really good reply that ed, thanks.
{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}
24 Jul 2018 12:47:53
Toffee ace, hmmm, I contend with the Richarlison Transfer, Watford have got their 10 Mill compensation (and then some) .
24 Jul 2018 12:55:50
Toffee ace. your right re: hull and Watford. and I think the fans and the board need to be a little more patient. last year's manager merry-go-round. was not ideal to say least. I'm sure none of us want a repeat. So this a great opportunity for club and Silva and fans to wipe slate clean.
24 Jul 2018 13:34:24
Couldn’t agree more Jcl. And I need to work on patience more than most. I remember Moyes first few yo-yo seasons. They stressed me out no end 😂
Ktf, I’m not one for conspiracies but have to admit there is definitely some Ego tax being applied there ðŸ‘.

Have to admire Silva, he wants Richalison, knows he fits his systems and style of play so has gone out and got him.
It's that approach we need from a DOF and coach.
If he can do that with 3 or 4 more it will be impossible not to improve on last season.
