Watford still seeking compensation from Everton over the so called tapping up of Marco Silva. They say we disabled their season by approaching their manager, please have a look closer to home haven't they rifled through 9 managers in 5 seasons. Come on wake up and smell the coffee what a liberty.

{Ed002's Note - Everton were totally unprofessional in their approach. Don't try and deflect and blame something else, it is embarrassing.}

Ed002; What is your understanding of how long it will take the Premier League to investigate Watford’s complaint and announce their findings and conclusion?

{Ed002's Note - There is no fixed timescale Bobby. The complaint was originally made in November and they are now pushing for the Premier League to do something as it is in direct breach of the PL rules and to date they have done nothing. If they decide that there is a need to appoint a Commission it could drag out - and Watford will request or will have requested a Commission be formed and not dealt with by the board. If the PL are uncomfortable with it all they can refer the matter to the FA - but neither club would want that.}

Who actually knows the rules? I don't. All teams go for who they want. Can someone clarify the rules of engagement.

{Ed002's Note - Your lack of knowledge is hardly a surprise. All if the teams know the rules, I know the rules, most supporters would know the rules. Everton acted illegally, unprofessionally and in breach of the rules. Watford want them punished. It is really very simple.}

Ed002: Thanks for your reply.
The idea that everyone else supposedly breaks the rules and therefore anyone is entitled to break them too is wrong imho. All rule-breaking should be investigated impartially and sanctions applied as allowed and appropriate.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think you will find that everybody else breaks the rules.}

Tapping up or tampering goes on and a lot of clubs have done it. Some would argue most, rightly or wrongly. But it’s illegal and punishable. So if you court trouble, you can’t complain if it hits the fan.

The two teams were invited to sort it out between themselves and that’s not worked out. That was the oppotune time to make this right and now it’s going to get messy.

I won’t blindly support the club if it’s acted unprofessionally but I won’t judge either as I’m not in view of the facts.

I would though be interested in how it works out as there are more brazen examples that have gone unpunished.

26 Jul 2018 12:40:22
Ed002: that’s why I said “supposedly”.

26 Jul 2018 14:29:22
What is the likely punishment Ed for such a breaking of the rules - fine, points docked or a mixture of both?

{Ed002's Note - If it goes to a Commission hearing the options they have for any punishment are:
- reprimand
- an unlimited fine (I would think this would be the probably out come)
- suspend the club from playing in League Matches or any matches in competitions
- deduct points
- impose a transfer ban
- recommend that the League expels the club from membership

Suppose we better have a whip round all.

It’s a shame we (the club) have acted as we have. I’ve always liked to think of our image as the ‘Everton in the community’ side of the club but maybe it’s time to take off those rose tinted glasses.

Hopefully things will improve in accordance with changes within the club at the end of last season.

{Ed002's Note - Not really, as far as I recall Everton were the last Premier League to be charged with tapping up a professional player as well.}

26 Jul 2018 15:48:00
Which player was that Ed? Was it fairly recently?

{Ed002's Note - About four years ago, Jamaal Lascelles.}

26 Jul 2018 16:15:19
Thanks Ed. Was that when he was still at Forest or had he moved to Newcastle by then? Shame we went the wrong way about it because he's turned into a very good player IMO so could have done with doing it above board and getting him in then.

{Ed002's Note - Forest and yes you are correct.}

26 Jul 2018 18:54:31
Embarrasing af this especially as it is a repeat. No excuse, its a disgrace. Do you know the person/ persons directly responsible for the illegal approach please ed002?

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to go down that road.}

26 Jul 2018 19:17:24
Okay ed. Thanks for all the information on the situation. I think there's is an issue that needs resolving wihin the club, twice within 4 years is terrible. Like you said ed, the rules are clear so why are we doing this. We would all be annoyed if it was the other way around. Like I said embarassing.

As indirect approaches via intermediaries (agents) are apparently permissible (and seemingly the norm) , I’m rather surprised that Everton engaged in the illegal approach that Watford are complaining about.
Whether the illegal approach was by design or by incompetence, it clearly shows a lack of professionalism.
I’m expecting that the restructuring of the club’s board and senior management will mean that these errors of judgement are long gone and our current and future dealings will be right and proper.
