Let's analyse the current position at our club.
Marco and Marcel would/ should have looked at videos of every game last season and made an assessment of the players.
Pre-season would have been Marco's opportunity to see if his coaching methods had the potential to improve the performance of certain players. Both MS and MB will now be fully aware which players figure in their future plans and where the team needs fresh blood.
What is a little perplexing is what is obvious to all bloggers he would be unable to turn back the clock with regards to Jags and Bainsey, so has a priority a commanding CB with pace and a L/ WB again with pace who could defend and offer something going forward should have been identified and recruited.
We have a core of good established players, such as Pickford, Coleman, Gueye Sigusson, Walcott and youngsters who are ready for the first team squad in Lookman, DCL, Holgate and Banningme.
So, given that we recruit two defenders that meet the above criteria, and identify a midfielder who has the skill to beat a man and see a pass Marco needs to clearly communicate his plan and realistic expectations going forward and the supporters will then be able to relate to what is happening.
But don't let's lose the real potential of the likes of Lookman and DCL who imho is better than Kane, at his age, and has more pace, better movement and greater aerial threat than the England captain and with an extended run would produce the goals.
Marco and us supporters give the youngsters a chance to step up to the plate.

I’d agree DCL is faster and taller, but Kane was a far more clinical finisher at the same age, with his head and both feet.

Withe reference to Kane, I live in Norwich and saw Kane when he was on loan not sure of his age then but he was hopeless and never looked like he would make it. There is plenty of time for DCL to develop.

Nice reminder Fancy Smith. Yes we have some great youngsters coming through. I sometimes forget some of the potential. But even so, we expect too much from them sometimes. It is a man's game and you could see with young Tom Davies how he initially broke into the team yet when things started to go wrong, he was often missing. I also think Schneiderlin just has to be replaced with a dynamic midfielder who wants to win the ball and then carry it and look to go forwards. I do understand we have some great kids and also some quality. but I have been banging on and on and on about replacing Jags and Baines since the end of last season and some posters on here just say I am being negative and "enjoy the ride". I am sorry, but I cannot enjoy watching a 36 year old center back partner a 33 year old left back and then if they are injured watch Cuco Martina or Ashley Williams or Michael Keane look like the ball is some hot potato that you have to get rid of. Holgate has to be a starter for me even at the tender age of 21. And another from elsewhere. And a left back. and a center midfielder. and there lies the problem. We are mediocre to poor in many positions. it is all well and good having a manager with attacking intentions, but if the players are not good enough (which is what he seems to be hinting at now) then you cannot turn a pigs ear into a silk purse!

{Ed025's Note - you can over time but not overnight degsy, its ok saying buy him and him then lash a few out but its a process mate and thats why patience is the key..

I’ll have to slightly disagree with the original post. MB and MS could watch all the videos they like, but until they actually work with the players and see how they respond to their way of training/ thinking, then they won’t know what they’ve got on their hands. Everyone has a clean slate imo and, quite rightly, will be given a chance to impress and find their form again under this new regime. Obviously with the likes of Davey Klassen, they saw what they saw early on and he was moved on. It will be the same for others, I’ve no doubt.

I do agree regarding the youth though. MS is known to be a good man manager from what I can gather, so will be interesting to see how he brings the young lads on.

Of course Ed025. I agree 100% but what is frustrating is that I have come on this site for years now. I suggest that there may be a problem with certain players (eg the age thing with our defence) . I remember me and Swan going hammer and tongs about it 3 or 4 years ago when I first suggested we needed to deal with it. Everyone was saying I was negative! Here we are 3/ 4 years down the line with exactly 3 players who have been loyal servants to the club but are clearly past it. So we buy Ashley Williams of the same age. We sign Cuco Martina who can't even get on the Southampton bench! Then talk about top 6. The damage was indeed done when Martinez took over. It now needs dealing with big time. Yes I understand the need for patience. I have had to use a lot of mine up over the last few years. ps Coleman will be past it in a couple more years. we should be signing the best youth right back about now!

{Ed025's Note - maybe everton should have appointed you degsy...you seem to have all the answers mate.. :)

I agree with Kane I saw him play for u21s few times when he was younger and thought he is not good enough looked clumsy and would be a championship player at max.
I was completely wrong. DCL has got potential but I think he should go out on loan and play week in week out maybe prem side or championship club.

Jesus degs I feel sorry for your cat mate, cheer up, Coleman's got 7/ 8 years left in him and we habe the best youth right back already at the club in Kenny, we also have a top lb at the club in Robinson, couple of top top young cbs in holgate feeney and the Aussie lad who's name escapes me, we have top youth wingers in lookman blower evans, top youth midfielders in beni, Davies, dowell and some fine youth strikers in DCL and lavery. don't worry bout our youth mate wer good it's just the here and now we need to worry bout.

29 Jul 2018 13:37:25
Agree Degsy since Martinez took over it’s been our defence letting us down and it hasn’t been addressed players are Herron older and slower SO WE BUY an old Ashley Williams and slow Keane. The back line needs some pace in fact the whole team needs pace we need a plan b from tosun.

29 Jul 2018 16:24:03
Coleman may have 7 or 8 years of football but only 4 maybe 5 left in the Prem. He is 29.

29 Jul 2018 17:41:53
Johny1989, Coleman is 29.turns 30 this season. Fullbacks these days in the prem can go to 33 if they are absolutely in top condition. At most 2 more seasons after this. And this is exactly the conversation I had about Jags, Baines etc a couple of years ago. People over estimate the length of players' careers. Just because one or two can extend, does not mean they all can. Some players careers are over at 20! re all the youth. I have already said it is promising. you even say yourself it is the here and now we need to deal with! So youth is not the short term answer!

29 Jul 2018 16:23:40
no degsy you come on here thinking you are the only that sees any problems with the team for example some players are getting old like nobody else can see this again in these messages you are banging on about how right you are and how we all know nothing it really is sad i have read your messages for at least two years its always the same i predicted this im right ye are all wrong just grow up.

29 Jul 2018 17:52:57
Agree Degsy 3 seasons max.

29 Jul 2018 17:53:15
It's as if most of you are ignoring what is actually going on, right now, at the club just so you can start thd criticism.

We need a younger fresher LB. Digne is close to signing.

We need a CB. We've been in discussion for Mina and are hoping to close out the deal this week when he returns.

Silva has said he wants 5 or 6 players meaning that we are out there trying to fill those places where we need them.

Keep the hysterics for after the window when we know what we have.

Unlike 12 months ago we ARE filling the areas we need to and not wasting on areas we don't need.

Have a bevy, chil out and get a bit of perspective. Otherwise that vein on the side of your head will explode.
