I know I should be trying to stay positive and all that but is anybody else worried. Seems like we're getting further and further away from where we want to be every year. Squad is miles behind others and can't see much changing bar a miricle, can't attract the players we need, Probably got the worst defence I've ever seen in my time, And now I'm getting the sinking feeling our keepers head has been turned. Anybody got any good news?

{Ed025's Note - we wont be as bad as you think you know kingy, a lot of our problems have been down to individual errors and lack of concentration plus a very negative playing style, im hoping silva will address a lot of these problems mate and we can make some progress..

Agree3 Disagree2

31 Jul 2018 08:14:40
The manager and DOF have recognised, instead of ignoring, the areas we need to strengthen like LB, CB and on the wings.

We are now playing a more progressive football style which with more practice should see us more attractive to watch.

We've just bought what looks like an absolute steal of a player that should get you off your seat.

A new LB after years of inaction in this area.

A CB as a priority signing instead of going for 3 no10.

Stadium progressing nicely.

Positive changes in the boardroom and management levels at the club.

Cracking owner with genuine ambition with the funds and will to make things happen.

Decent kit this year.

1st home game of the summer just 4 days away!

Plenty to be positive about kingy. 😉.

31 Jul 2018 08:37:31
Cracking post BJU. Glass half full? You need to watch you don’t spill any mate.

It’s a really good point about the key areas of concern. Recognising where to strengthen is clear to see and the fact that we are actively doing something about it bodes well for the future.

That may mean a difficult pre season and even more difficult start but we can’t get too hung up on how our squad looks during a window. Judge it when it shuts.

We have almost got two of our targets and we look very active in getting more.

Man U and Spurs are having a much harder time if you listen to their managers in getting their targets this summer so you have to applaud the business we have already done.

There are plenty of positives out there, their not hard to find.

Are we going backwards? Well even the nicest cars have to drop down a gear to get over a hill.

31 Jul 2018 08:45:03
I would expect our squad to be behind others due to the changes in management and playing style.
we will sign a few more i am sure of that, yes they will need time to gel so let's see where we are are at the end of November and not panic just yet.

31 Jul 2018 09:17:43
Here is a question for you positive guys to ponder. With all the positive things going on that BJU lists and points out, would you rather have a drop to the Championship as long as all the progress listed takes place. or would you rather stay in the Premiership and do without say a new stadium or decent kit? This is obviously a hypothetical question and not saying we will go down. I am just trying to ascertain how much people see as positive and is remaining in the Premiership the top priority?

31 Jul 2018 10:15:16
It's a silly question degsyp as it's nowhere close to being one thing or the other.
We are moving in the right direction and will have more signings before the window closes.
I'm confident that soon you will need to come up with new things to constantly barrage us with as most of what you say will have been addressed.

31 Jul 2018 10:39:08
Sounda like their training has been very intense too! As much as people say “Its their job to run around, i'd do it for how much they get paid” the body can only handle so much before getting fatigued. Impossible not to carry it in to games as the body tires.

31 Jul 2018 12:26:41
bw2412v2.0, yes it was a sort of silly question. but so is blind faith. Blind faith causes lots of problems and I just wondered what the priorities are of some posters. Mine is definately staying in the Premiership. even if it means playing less attractive football. in the short term.

31 Jul 2018 12:46:01
True Degsy but many proved last season with there bad attitude towards the manager that they do not think about the consequences of trying to play the kind of football we are not cabable of at the moment.

31 Jul 2018 12:50:45
Degsy, the cost of the stadium and new shirts has no bearing on staying in the premiership so i have to agree with those above. It is a bit of a nothing question.
Less attractive football? What does that even mean? .
Less attractive than Martinez? Koeman? Allardyce?
I am sure you are alluding to Big Sams less attractive displays, well he rarely completed a full preseason and then a season in the league, so how he would perform in todays game for a couple of seasons is anyones guess. He is good at what he does, rescues then frustrates.
Brands is here to get us our identity back, which has been ripped from us by the last few managers. If that happens by playing the Guardiola way or the Simeone way, i don't care, What i want is to go into every game with the feeling that it is winnable. It is with that approach our great club will collect its next Trophy, whatever trophy that may be.

31 Jul 2018 13:36:50
Degsyp. If blind faith is thinking that the club is moving in the right direction then I'm all for it rather than constantly running down the club and the manager before they've even had a any proper games in the league.

It's time you realised they are not ever going to appoint you as manager. Get over it and get behind the team.

Dark Clouds - do you really think your posts show a good attitude to the team and the manager? Telling them they are not capable? You've missed your calling as a motivational speaker.

31 Jul 2018 13:45:16
Wow lots of comments and questions. I will attempt to answer/ respond. No I was not alluding to Big Sams in particular. I just see lots of very positive posts on here explaining how everything is rosey. Just like I did when Koeman took over. Just like I did when Martinez took over. Not so much with Moyes nor Sam. Again in Walter Smith's take over. The one common thing I notice as a football supporter is that there is indeed blind faith. Anyone who questions or does not agree with all the ones with "blind faith". get ridiculed or insulted or ignored. Whilst all the ones with blind faith pat each other on the back and say things like, "well said. or I agree 100%" But usually there are positives and negatives in life. My total positive is the desire to play in the Premiership (Everton) . I don't give a rats backside how attractive we play at the moment. I don't care about the kit. Nor a "cracking" new owner. I don't even desire "a progressive" new style of football at this stage. I desire wins. Nice football follows. I half suspect that we will indeed play some terrible football this year. I also suspect that the "blind faith" brigade will be the first to throw their toys out the pram and start asking for the manager to be sacked. My experience in football told me a while back that too many changes too quickly disrupts and causes chaos. I said as much a few years back when it all started after Moyes. Too many ins and outs. players and managers. Yet here we are still with no straight replacements for Baines, Jags and Coleman. Moyes players. Moyes left in 2013. that's 5 years to sort their replacements. Poor by Everton in my opinion. We will see this progressive football for what its worth and I will be delighted to be proved wrong. But I suspect the same players used by Allardyce will perform in exactly the same way as they did under Allardyce, Unsworth and Koeman. pretty poor overall. let's revew in 5 games hey?

31 Jul 2018 14:53:44
Sorry last bit was meant to say under Silva.

31 Jul 2018 15:12:12
I was just having a bit of a sulk didn’t mean to start a heated debate I’ll back them regardless because that’s what we do. It’s can be really frustrating sometimes tho.

31 Jul 2018 15:53:17
We are supporters, we should support who wears the shirt, which I agree is very nice this year
Is it blind faith? Hmmm not really it’s looking for the positives and looking at the change. Would’ve been nice for Farhad to stroll in and wave his magic wand and everything be amazing thrashing teams left right and centre but it doesn’t work like that, it’s new territory but he’s trying to do what he can, mistakes have been made and there will probably be more.
We won’t be a relegation threatened team and we won’t challenge the top 4 this season, what will happen is Silva and Brands will overhaul the team and drive the CLUB as a whole forward.
We have invested wisely in Richarlison who is young exciting and a real talent and hopefully we stay clear of stars in the twilight of their careers
So I know it’s difficult but let’s stay positive get behind the team even when times are tough and push them on in the upcoming season!

31 Jul 2018 16:36:47
I think what you will find Degsy is most posters on here agree if they agree with something and disagree if they disagree with something. Its kind of how the site works.
I think certain posters take not being agreed with to heart.
Then we see the delete my account posts or i'm going away for a few weeks posts. So be it. If people can't take the site for what it is then i am not going to waste my time consoling them. As for ignoring, not sure how you would know that as not everyone logs on all the time.
This is an opinions site, i like the banter and a lot of my posts are hypothetical or sarcastic, dependant on whether i'm posting or replying. Or what mood i'm in.
If i post something and someone says well done i agree. Great. If someone says they disagree. Great, each to their own.
None of us are correct all the time and none of us have the correct view all the time.
Personally i try to put as much positive spin on things (thats who i am) but like anyone, i do have a breaking point.

Try not to take this site too seriously pal.

31 Jul 2018 17:54:57
Not having a dig here but it amazes me how little some people know about football.

Where in any league in the world does it prove that playing unattractive football guarantees you stay up or win a trophy?

I will point to Real, Man City, Bayern, PSG, Barcelona even the other top 5 in our league as what good football can produce.

However, if you want to use Palace, Burnley, Stoke, in fact you get the gist as your barometer for success or even staying up it is madness. They all eventually fall and never achieve anything.

Look at what good football does achieve and want our club to use it.

For me Degsy you're David Moyes mk2. You believe this is what we are and all we can be.

I'm still a Rolye or Kendall who believes we are more and can be more. These two taught me as an Evertonian to only want to be the best. To believe in our moto at all costs. Anything less is Liverpool.

31 Jul 2018 19:43:50
Bw I am not talking to the team, but when watching games I allways support no matter what, more than I can say for many Evertonians.
The attitude last season must have effected the players even though it was aimed at the manager. I was ashamed and if I could have spoken to the players I would have apologised to them for the bad attitude of the fans.
In this forum yes I criticise a lot but never during the game, can you say that?

31 Jul 2018 19:49:09
Good post degsyp! Whilst I don’t agree with all your comments I fully appreciate where you are coming from and will always have a good look at both sides of an opinion / argument. I was once like you interms on not being interested in our style of play just the game points but my youngest is now 7 and I despair gaming the match watching rubbish and not being entertained as it’s a complete turn off for him etc. don’t get me wrong mate give me a couple of seasons and I will probably snap your hands off for 3 point 1-0 drab wins. BJU I’m also like you I terms of NSNO but trust me. Kendall lost the league and FA Cup final to our rivals (something I’ve never truly got over) so even our super heroes aren’t infallible!

{Ed025's Note - maybe so blu but they one thing going for them, they believed in everton and refused to accept second best, BJU hit the nail on the head for me and after all this is an entertainment industry, yes the odd 1-0 win in a scrappy game is acceptable once in a while but would you want to see it every week even if it meant staying in the prem?..well not me mate i hope and think everton are better than that..

31 Jul 2018 20:27:26
No Ed your 100% right . they are basically Millionaire jesters entertaining us! NSNO means so much to me that’s why sometimes I can get irritated when people back the likes of Niasse, Klaasen, Alardyce (to name a few) when imo they simply are not good enough. I am more than realistic understanding our place at the football table at the present moment - cause we are in ‘transition’, I would take a good cup run this year Ed and then slowly but surely. regain our rightful place at the summit of English Football.

{Ed025's Note - i think thats what we all aspire to blu but we have to be in this for the long haul. we are in transition whatever anyone thinks and it will obviously take a bit of time mate..

31 Jul 2018 19:08:12
For what its worth I enjoyed all those posts. The only bit I disagree with is the bit about running the club down all the time. I have supported the club all my life. I even supported Sam Allardyce for what he tried to achieve. My support has never wavered. My question was about the opposite of what some people seem to think is my view. but it is not. I do agree that we have signed a very promising youngster. I also agree that our football was unbearable last season. but I put that down to lack of playing staff. I also think we will do ok. not brilliant. but ok. Unless. and here is the biggy. the managers football philosophy is unachievable with the players we have. That depends on the next week and who we sign. Our current defenders are poor. (yes Coleman isnt) . Whether Holgate can cut it is also important. Martina is not good enough. Williams is not good enough. Jags is no longer good enough. Baines is struggling to reach the levels he once achieved. The youth players such as Kenny are not YET good enough. Our problem last season was we needed to score 2 or more often to get a result because we leaked goals. Unless we sign some decent defenders, that will be true this season. that's when you find out who are real supporters. not on a banter site during the closed season when we can all dream. that's my view anyway.

31 Jul 2018 20:49:10
Some great posts and replies from this. And yes me too I would prefer to be hammering teams 5 nil every week with great football. I just worry a little bit that we are so intent on ridding ourselves of the Allardyce negativity, that we are looking for something that the current squad of players are incapable of. We will see 5 games in how things are starting. I will delightfully eat my hat and my underpants if my guess is wrong. I suspect that unless we sort the defence and center mid issues, we will be in high scoring games indeed. but not winning many.

31 Jul 2018 20:59:38
Ed do you think we might get a ‘left field’ surprise next Thursday in our Transfers? I know MB seems to be doing very private business which I for one embrace so at the moment they are all pretty much ‘left field’ but I’m talking a Zaha / Batshuayi / Werner (swap him for Lookman all day) type of transfer? Even a left feild out? Wallcot / Baines etc. your thoughts!

{Ed025's Note - it would certainly not surprise me blu, the next week or so could be very interesting and im sure there will be a couple of big names coming in, hopefully of the defensive kind mate..

31 Jul 2018 21:16:08
They said the same about Royle's team in 95 Degsy. A team bereft of talent. He nurtured belief and a DOGGED determination in them.

However, when they could they would turn on the style. In the Semi final of the FA Cup they had already wrote us off. The Klinsmann final they said for us all to get ready for.

Instead he let the whole team off their leash and we completely played them off the park. In the final we new what we had to do. We played containment and tight. We got a goal and that was that.

Any team including this one can play football in most styles. All it takes is a manager worth his salt, a team WILLING to learn and then a determintation to see it through. These players are not lacking the quality to do it. Some lack the determination which i think we all know who they are and some just don't fit.

However, it does take time. The manager will take time to get his views over but it will happen. At some point it clicks.

Martinez first season was the best football ever in the EPL era with any of our managers after Royle.

Koeman's last 6 month of his first season was the best we've ever seen at home. If you had a season ticket then you must agree. Second only to Barcelona in Eurpoe in points and goals at home. The WHOLE of Europe.

Silva is the new man in charge. It's now time to give our support. Every ounce of it. Don't dwell on the past and focus on the future. Over the coming season and next we have the people to make it happen.

NSNO.

31 Jul 2018 21:19:39
Degsyp I agree with a lot of your post, regardless of what you think of the previous managers it's pretty much the same players, at what point are fans going to realise this and stop giving them a free pass.

I think that a lot of the players don't have the ability to play the way that Koeman wanted to play or the intelligence under Martinez to shut up shop when we were in the lead and yet we change the manager and the players keep making the same mistakes, but its not their fault!

31 Jul 2018 22:24:50
I disagree Sidney, what type of play did Koeman instil into Everton? .
The high press he promised when he left Southampton? No. Burnleys low block and win it on a set piece? No.
Arsenal or Bournemouths or Mrtinezs tippy happy football? No.
He sorted the defence but had Lukakau on the end of the ball to score. Once he went Koemans plan of productivity through the squad never materialised.

Dark Clouds You are like the guy in the pub that runs down someone and then as soon as they walk in you are fawning all over them and wanting to buy them a pint.

I'm trying to give Marco and Marcel time to make a difference and will also be shouting for the team when the match starts.

The two of them have a difficult enough job as it is without people getting on their backs even before the season has started. Try cutting them some slack. This is a long term problem and it will take a long time to put right.
