As a football fan of many years, I sometime write posts on here as an Evertonian through and through. On other occasions I write as a football supporter generally. ie even without Everton, I would still have the desire to watch football whenever possible. This actually gives me a bit of a conflicting thought at times. eg Yes we have made 2 good signings and yes we have some great kids coming through. But in football it usually takes time for a team to "gel" together and we all know how poor we were last season. None of the 3 managers got us playing anything near attractive football. We have "got rid" (I hate that term) of some players who featured last season and await other signings with bated breath. That so far doea not sound to me like we are in a stronger position. maybe the manager will get us playing great football we will see. My main fear as an Evertinian is that our biggest rivals have quietly (for once) gone about their business. They had weaknesses in thei squad and signed Salah (what a revelation) and more recently a solid center back and keeper. I suspect they will do more than challenge Man City at the top. Their squad scares the you know what out of me. Get ready for noisey neighbour time I think! And on this subject, I really do hope I am wrong!

They who must not be named have been going through a building process over the past 2-3 years and have thrown a lot of money at the cause.
We are at the start of that process but cannot spend the same amounts as them, so logic says it will take us longer.
The optimistic view is, we are in a better position to build than we have been for so many years.
We must trust in Moshiri, kenwright and Brands to take us up that level.

With Brands I feel we have a good chance of 1st cementing 7th in the league and then challenging the 6th best team in the league, whoever that may he at the time.

Degsy the way I get by is I don't follow their results mate, but to be fair I ain't bitter, I just don't follow them BUT I think your right regarding this season. them or city. and in all fairness the Mgmt and recruiting by both clubs has been top draw if we are being honest. as Smit said we have stumbled a little bit. I have got a feeling that our team may even surprise us this season. if we can get another CB, another striker and another cm (dembele or nzonzi type) and give the youth a chance. lookman, Davies, dowell etc iwe could be pleasantly surprised.

The team from the other side of the park look ominous but we can't do anything about them except take them as inspiration and motivation to get above them. Considering where we both are it won't be this season. I doubt it will be next season but we must keep working to that aim.

Have faith, have blind faith, have any faith you can get your hands on but we will get there with the right management, the right ownership and the right support

You are looking at this all wrong. Man City, Lierpool are not our rivals at this time. We have make sure we compete with them on a 1 on 1 basis but in terms of the league and squad, we are looking to get closer to them and pull away from the rest from 7th downwards.

We all need to stop looking above us for now and concentrate on the teams around our current level.

Very true Blue John, optomism can be good but to much of it can only lead to disappointment and unrest among fans. This unrest transmits to the players.
What we need now is realism and try to get closer to the teams above. Play football the right way and give 110% in every game, something lacking last year I feel for a number of reasons.
Yes I have moaned about the appointment of Silva but will support him and the team and hope to be wrong.
Now the season is almost here, let's hope for the best and also that the other lot come second to City lol, would hate them to win the league but if we look as though we are going in the right direction who cares.

Do not be worrying about our neighbours, no denying they have a top forward line, but it only takes an injury, or teams sussing them out and defending deeper that it can all go tits up, City have as good as a third team they could call players up from, for me it will be a couple of seasons before anyone gets close to City.

In the meantime, we can continue rebuilding season by season, Silva has sussed the slackers out, he is doing his upmost to get them out of the club, slowley bringing players in where needed.

It may take a couple of seasons, but the early signs are that Silva and Brands do not suffer fools lightly, just be a little more patient.

For the first time in a while, we have someone who sees what we see and has took action.

I really think they are very strong and have signed exactly the players they needed. 3 or 4 seasons ago we had caught them up and were really quite close, but whereas they have recovered, the wheels at Goodison have wobbled off and we have fallen behind again. Hindsite is a wonderful thing, but the way we have wasted so much money on very poor signings just surprises me. We have also changed direction more times than the Spanish Armarda. We need to sit this one through no matter what happens. It might become a bumpy ride but fellow Blues need to stay calm. Especially if we start poorly.
