Morning Fellow Blue’s and the Ed’s

Slightly off topic but I wondered if Ed2 could shed a little light on how teams in Europe are doing financially and how it will impact the summer window?

I read an article the other day specifically about Inter Milan really struggling financially and needing to offload players urgently, it did go on to say that there are a lot of teams in similar situations across Europe but didn’t name them.

If this is true do you think we will see a lot of players this summer moving for more realistic price tags or do you feel clubs will try and hang onto players as there value is less than what they paid?

It’s an interesting metric as the demand for players will be there and the clubs will want as much as possible but I think for the first time in a while clubs will start to walk away if the prices are stupid.

Barcelona are another team with players they need to get shut of but have a problem similar to ours, massive wages and players happy to see out there contracts.

Interesting times ahead I think would be really keen to get your take on it ed2.

{Ed002's Note - Numerous teams across Europe have serious financial problems including most Premier League clubs. Some clubs have already moved to make significant savings (Real Madrid and Barcelona are examples) and will continue to off-load players in the summer. The situation in France is worse as they have lost their broadcast deal in addition to matchday income. Some individual clubs are struggling where they fear the worst going forward if they have already have accounted for European football income (e.g. Dortmund who are really strugging but have some pricey assets that will leave in the summer). In Italy both Milanese clubs have financial issues and players will be sold on. As you say wages are an issue for many clubs - for Barcelona it is a significant issue although there remains a chance that Messi will leave this summer. EPL sides are suffering, some more than others, but across the board it is not good.}

Great feedback a d insights there Ed
I know you said this was a time for Everton to right it’s financial standing, do you feel we’ve made any improvements there as you warned or would you feel we are still flirting with FFP peril.

{Ed002's Note - There has been a relaxation in terms of how the results are reported - this gives clubs time to sort themselves out. Everton need to watch the wage bill.}

Some high earning players leaving this summer, which should hopefully help that. Lots of work to be done though.

Cheers for the insight Ed, mad to think about the amount of money that’s been lost, but I can’t help thinking long term this might be the slight reset that has been needed for a few years in football especially the prem.
