: Everton hierarchy have sounded out Marcelo Bielsa about replacing Roberto Martinez as Everton manager! ". Source - Richard Buxton. Ed mate, you heard anything on this news filtering through and would Bielsa be a good choice in your opinion?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am sure that Bielsa would be interested in working in the Premier League and there are no doubts about his abilities as a coach - at least somewhere he can communicate verbally.

He has had a few offers (from Argentina, Turkey and Brazil) but is looking to Spain or a spanish speaking National side. The attraction of the Premier League will be in the money.

As to whether or not I think he would be a good choice, no. Bielsa (a) has some serious weird thoughts running around inside his head, and (b) doesn't speak English.

Not making the effort to learn French at Marseille caused serious difficulties for him and yet they persevered with a translator. In the end the situation was strained for months and he walked away right after the start of teh season.

. if this report is true it does show that the efc board have now decided to part ways with the clueless one and go for a new manager sometime very soon which will be music to the ears of us long suffering fans!

NOT speaking English is a serious handicap .

As good as he is I think that should be one of the conditions of any managerial contender.

Too much of a gamble I think, then we would be back to square one and that would be disasterous.

Know nothing about the man, but if as Ed002 says Mr Bielsa 'has some serious weird' thoughts in his head then it would be surprising if any serious sounding out has been done and as Ed002 appears to indicate we may well be best steering clear. Being relatively safe from relegation it is also safe to assume that Mr Martinez will be here till at least the end of the season and the serious work of replacing him will take place once the FA Cup is out of the way.

Ed025 might be able to Pablo. He rates him but doesn't seem to be clocked in at the moment. Don't know much about him myself but he seems decent. Ed002 concerns and no English aren't good news though.

Didnt the Spurs manager have an interpretator when he was at Southampton and Spurs, didn't seem to do any harm there, be a refreshing change to phenomenal and super.

{Ed001's Note - he did at Saints, but he also made sure to learn the language as quickly as possible.}

Bielsa has a reputation as something of a maverick, the kind of eccentric tactical genius whose image is almost enhanced by things like for example, walking out of his job at Marseille just one game into the season without even telling his players he was going.

The problem with genius of course, is that it demands genius from those around him. Bielsa does not win trophies. Brilliant innovation is counter-balanced by ideas which completely fail.

Bielsa is just about the furthest a football club could get from a 'sure thing'. He's not a safe pair of hands.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - his acolytes, from Pep Guardiola to Mauricio Pocchettino are the way to go. Those who take the genius ideas and create ways to make them practicable, rather than theoretical.}

Field a did really well with Chile and Bilbao. He had those teams playing really good attacking football and I particularly remember the way they took Man U apart in the Europa League. I think they got beaten by Atletico Madrid in the final? No shame in that and for a club like Bilbao, he achieved a lot: Copa del Rey final too, I think. Having said all that, they did then go downhill and I don't think he's right for Everton. His unwillingness to learn the language says a lot, and for all his genius, I haven't see real commitment from him. I don't think things would be different at Everton. As I've said before, Gourvennec from Guingamp, Paul Clement or Lucien Favre would be my shouts. Ed002 thinks Stellone from Italy and that is an interesting one having had a look at him.

Also in regards to interpreters, Bob the pole Warzychas first season with one was one hell of a player, until he learned English and was coached how to play, then the wheels fell off.
