Jagielka has been a great servant to our club, but I do think now is possibly the right time for him to leave if we want to move up a level. I believe the signing of Kone maybe a good one, Walsh knows Ligue 1 very well and it was only 8 months ago he was playing for Lorient so he probably knows the player well. I do hope however that Barkley is given the captaincy if Jags does leave, I think it would be the making of the lad the same way it was Gerrard at the red s

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed025's Note - i think jags will move on OL, but as for ross being the captain its a bit too soon for me mate...

10 Aug 2016 22:52:41
We have just signed a born leader which Koeman stated too, there is only one person who should be Captain for the next 4 years, maybe Ross then once he has learnt off AW

Also I think Jags is off as part of the Kone deal, great servant but to improve sacrifices need to be made.

Agree5 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 23:51:37
I personally think we should keep hold of Jags, but I think I'm just very attached to him as a player.

I like your thinking with Ross, and the point about Gerrard is valid, but I feel that one of Ross' biggest failings is his lack of mental strength (collapses under pressure (from the occasion, or his own fans) . Think their is a captain in there, but agree with Ed that he's a few years away and Williams is definitely ideal for the role in the meantime.

Agree4 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 00:13:21
Ross is definitely too young and too quiet a lad to be captain. The captaincy should go to Williams for me.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 00:35:13
Barry this year Williams next.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 04:48:46
What about Coleman for Captain he seemed very passionate on the pitch through the preseason games not afraid to be heard and at a nice age to take on a big responsibility and will only improve him as a player.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - surely Williams is the new captain? He is an excellent captain, one of the best around.}

11 Aug 2016 08:15:03
Williams nailed on for me surely his leadership qualities were a massive factor in signing him, the one thing we have lacked for a few year's now.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 09:45:35
If Jags goes we have lost 3 stalwarts from the club. Every club needs there heartbeat Jags Ozzie and hibbo were ours. And you can't buy loyalty.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 11:13:13
Hibbo was a stalwart if a stalwart is being paid for years for doing nothing then moaning about it, sorry take time to forgive him for that from me

Spot on Ed1 with the Ashley Williams as a Captain, that's what Koeman will certainly do and I hope he does, Jags is no Captain, ask Mirallas and Baines when they were embarrassing themselves over the penalty.

Agree4 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 12:38:06
Hibbo totally ruined his relationship with the fans with that outburst 3 years he drew a VERY good wage for going fishing and that's about it it's not like he's on the bones of his arse with the electric meter beeping is it? .

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 16:18:12
Wooly, think your words "VERY" good wage are an understatement mate, he was probably on an average prem players wage so Id say 30k a week, £15 per hour is a very good wage, 30k a week is ridiculous for fishing :)

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 17:26:52
Surprised people are so keen to get rid of Jags. Still think he is a solid defender and, although possibly not a first choice starter for the season given his age, I reckon he still has a lot to offer the team as far as experience is concerned.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 21:22:14
Barkley captain? You been smoking something? Doesn't know what he's doing himself let alone captain a team.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 23:30:44
If Barkley got captaincy my 22 year stint as a season ticket holder would be over. A captain has to have a brain and a football brain, Barkley has neither. He shouldn't be anywhere near the first team if we can get bolasie and mata over the line never mind given the armband.

Whether jags stays or goes Williams should be captain. Jags is a "wishy washy captain" in the words of one of the players to me. He needs to just play his own game. Williams would be a class act.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 12:13:06
Can't understand why some fans give Barkley stick. You'd swear he personally done something on them they way they talk about him sometimes.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 21:07:36
Only a minority NBTB. THE Gladwys Street Mob mainly. The same ones who gave Howard stick, granted he was nearing the end but to be abused by your own 'supporters' was out of order. I had a season ticket for 14 years in the street end and moved to the upper bullens because of the atmosphere, was poisonous at times. As I said though, a minority, not tarnishing all with the same brush.

10 Aug 2016 22:27:29
Rumours that we've put in a higher offer than west ham for Ghezzal don't know anything about him might be a Walsh pick see if it happens tmw Bolaise Kone maybe end of the week even Martins indi has apparently made a come and get me plea to RK interesting week before the start on saturday.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

10 Aug 2016 23:02:58
Ghezzal is brilliant mate fast and skillfully. id be hasp if he was a blue. Id take indi as well
A striker and a decent centre mid and I'll be a happy blue.

Bony and slimani if rom goes. Mata also should be the best window to date.

Not sure if Jags is off but RK's comments today about Williams being, 'A born Leader' might suggest he is.

Just wondering if anyone else has heard that Mata's representatives met with Everton in Chester today! A mate of mine told but don't know where they read this and how much truth is in it!

Just announced Ashley Williams has signed. If you want to see what type of character he is just read his message on the "Official" site. A great signing and a player that will give his all for Everton and wear the shirt with pride. I just hope we can get a few more like him.

Koeman stated he is a leader too, guess that answers the Captaincy question then boys, rightly so, I think Jags is off too.

10 Aug 2016 17:51:52
Great sigining class player and class interview on the official website. According to the mirror Sunderland have rejected r 18 mil bid for kone and he was asked by fans what was happening and he said Sunderland where supposed to offer him a new contract which they still haven't donehe was asked whether he wanted to leave and he said no he doesn't so think he will end up staying if he receives a new contract offer.

Agree1 Disagree2

10 Aug 2016 18:04:33
I wouldn't begrudge jags the move if they are paying what is reported £75k a week he has been brilliant but I also think him and williams would be one hell of a partnership.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 19:33:48
Well said Pb, can never really fault jags for his effort. i hope he stays if i am honest.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 19:39:24
Posted after wales did so well saying we should sign williams only heard good things about the guy and after watching wales in the euros can only say this boy plays with pride everytime he goes on the pitch strong powerful and a leader everything stones still needs to learn over the moon with this deal.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 20:06:02
I love jags however I feel he's getting a bit injury prone now. If we want to improve as a team might be a good deal for both parties.

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 22:20:09
Going downhill from Stones to an average player like Williams. Hope we having second thoughts about Bolasie this has panic written all over it. Was proven yesterday that we have to sell to buy and Bill is still the General.

10 Aug 2016 16:16:45
So as far as I can gather we should have williams, bolasie, Kone, bony anytime soon.

With us looking at mata as well.

Am I right, or is it just media again.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

10 Aug 2016 20:07:11
I'd be happy with that however when it comes to African cup of nations won't we be screwed?

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 12:02:32
This is a concern - kone (both) , bolasie, bony, gueye (I'm not counting niasse) . Course we haven't actually got 3 of those 5, but if we are looking at them, surely we have to consider the ACN?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 13:11:25
Read that Williams is getting number 6 which was Jags number? Maybe Jags is going to Sunderland.

Anyway I think it's only fair Moyes doesn't stand in the way of Kone and do the right thing and let him progress his career by joining a bigger club.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

10 Aug 2016 14:13:52
Is this the same smaller club that thumped you 3-0 at the end of last season? Yes granted you may finish higher than us but mate you aren't that much bigger if at all. None would do very well to stay at Sunderland where he is adored by everyone.

Agree1 Disagree4

10 Aug 2016 14:18:51
Lol love it, I am guessing you are saying that as its what Moyes said when trying to nick our players.

10 Aug 2016 14:33:22
FTM! WTF hahahahahaha.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 14:34:13
Calm down ftm he's only saying a quote from Moyes when trying to buy our players.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 14:36:31
Perhaps we could swap lone, s, do you think they'd notice!

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 14:40:19
Not being an Everton fan didn't get the pun. Sorry fellas just abit on edge with the concept of kone leaving! Haha my bad.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 14:42:29
FTM if you need to know which club is bigger ask Kone where he was yesterday? And that's Kone, not None.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 14:43:13
Of course everton are a massive club compared to sunderland. Their history is nothing other than being a yo-yo club who have flirted with relegation the last few seasons. As for 'thumping' us last season, we had nothing to play for other than the players aswell as the fans wanting Martinez out. what did sunder land have to play for? Oh yes I remember, relegating your biggest rivals and surviving another season to struggle once more in the top flight. Your deluded if you think sunderland are anywhere near evertons standard and look at the money you've spent over the last 5 seasons compared to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 15:07:44
Funny thing is Arouna Kone scored a hat trick against Sunderland 😂.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 15:00:08
FTM I was just having a dig at Moyes. Nothing against Sunderland. You made me laugh though!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 16:13:55
FTM, see your selective memory forgetting the 6-2 drubbing previously.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 17:09:59
Tongue in cheek family from another poster, when Moyes tried to pinch Baines and Fellaini, he said Everton should not stand in the way of a player moving to a bigger club, very good post imho and a dig at Moyes and not Sunderland, be suprised how many Evertonians have a soft spot for Sunderland, probs to do with your neighbours lol.

Ed, sorry to ask you to repeat yourself (I just cannot find the post) who was the cm you mentioned we were interested in?

Also, does it appear that we are looking at another gk? Rumours seem to have died off.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure who this is aimed at but if me it is perhaps Coric you should search on. There has been no approach but Begovic is available but once assured first team football - perhaps an option. Krul might also be an option.}

10 Aug 2016 12:25:30
That's the one! Thanks ed.

10 Aug 2016 12:47:19
Read up on coric. good player and would be a good fit at efc.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 09:03:40
Ed r we really in for bony as it would be strange that he wasn't apart of the stones deal if we wanted him and do u know if arsenal want bony.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It would be normal that he would not be part of teh Stones deal. Swansea had no desire to sell Bony but said that if they double what they paid for him they would be open to a sale and Manchester City obliged. Manchester City have a desire to sell Bony and may take as little as half what they paid for him - Swansea may have obliged but have signed Llorente and are still chasing Borja as replacements for Gomis and Ayew. Everton or one of the Turkish sides, Besiktas if they will accept a loan deal to buy deal, may give him an option.}

09 Aug 2016 23:26:41
Eds do you know awt about the kone signING, on sky that he's going back to train with Sunderland. . are we signing him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of. You haven't met the asking price and he has not pushed to force a move. It is probably just a bit soon after him joining them.}

10 Aug 2016 10:52:08
Then ed if u think it's unlikely kone will move just yet do know if we have intrest in victor linderlof from benfica this lad looks good and being from Sweden they do tend to adapt to the English leagues.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Before breaking in to the first team at Benfica's Victor Lindelof had attracted the attention of several clubs including Bayern Munich and Newcastle whilst playing in the B side. A second half display against Italy in Olomouc last summer was enough to convince van Gaal to have Manchester United scouts attend Benfica reserve games to watch him. Anderlecht, Juventus and Hamburg are known to have watched Lindehof without yet speaking to Benfica. Napoli have spoken with Benfica but consider the asking price high. Chelsea has spoken with Benfica and may make an offer if the cannot get what is now their first choice option. There is also some reluctance from a certain party at Chelsea that would need to be overcome.}
