Good news, playing well at the moment but with baines getting back to full fitness and garbutt back end of season will he get a look in? I prefer garbutt think the future will be bright for him in a everton shirt and when baines is backup to speed he'll be 1st choice and Galloway can also play in the same position if needed? Good squad member but I just don't think he will ever push for a starting position? He's playing well at the moment so I hope he proves me wrong!

Not sure that he will but I think there is a good chance he will prove you wrong Mg78blue.

Its only my opinion but I think he's better than you give him credit for. He is equally as good at left midfield. When he got a run of games awhile back he was no stranger to scoring goals.

Played right back a couple of times recently. Maybe that's what you mean as a good squad member or maybe you mean as back up to left back.

He's being picked before Baines at the moment. Not sure exactly why he's being picked before Baines. Martinez seems to like Oviedo. Almost everytime Oviedo was available for selection he has played for Martinez.

Compared to say Gibson who also had injury problems had to contend with a place on the bench whenever available. So Martinez does rate him and surprisingly he's only 25 so he probably has his best football to play.

Very good player to have and although Baines still has a couple of seasons imo. Oviedo and Garbutt are the future. I know Galloway can play there but we're told his future is centre back.

It's good news that Oviedo has extended his contract.
I can't see Hibbert, Gibson, Osman or Pienaar getting extensions when their contracts end this June. Do any of you think they will?

I'd give Pienaar another year, that interview when he was in tears at the end of his loan spell from spurs showed how much he loved Everton, plus he's a great footballer and if there's no injury concerns don't see why he couldn't play a part.

Definitely not Hibbert Cowpat. Pienaar yes I'd like to see him getting a one year contract. I'd also like to see Gibson getting 2 or 3 year contract.

Osman maybe a one year contract or a pay as you play contract. Ed025 suggested before Pienaar one year contract, Osman and Gibson pay as you play.

Don't think Gibson would go for that at his age. I'd say some other club would be willing to take him on. I'd like to see Gibson getting a proper run of things. Good player as we all know just needs to stay fit.

Interesting thoughts about who to retain.
Here's the rub: at the end of the January transfer window we registered a squad of 24 aged-over-21 players.
We omitted 3 players who are out loan for the rest of this season (Garbutt, McGeady and McAleny) .
We also have 4 currently-under-21 players who will have to be registered in the aged-over-21 squad come this summer (Browning, Deulofeu, Pennington and Stones) .
Other youngsters (Galloway, Tarashaj, etc. ) will still be classed as under-21 this summer.
That still makes 31 players. Our registered aged-over-21 squad is limited to a maximum of 25 players of whom no more than 17 can be non-homegrown.
So, come the summer, 6 of our players will have to be omitted - and that's before we transfer in new aged-over-21 players. Bearing that in mind, can we really give contract extensions to Gibson, Osman or Pienaar?

{Ed025's Note - it looks like a no to me sid..

I knew that's what you were getting at when you posted the question. You like doing the squad list. Nothing wrong with that.

What you are stating ties into what I said a week ago that I was happy with the squad.

We have too many players. That's a good thing imo. There are certain ways around the problem you point out. No one knows until the summer what will happen.

How many players will be let out on loan? How many will be sold? Those 2 questions will have to be taken into consideration. No doubt the squad will adjust accordingly.

You never accountant for Howard supposedly leaving. I'd expect a lot of youngsters to go on loan. Wouldn't be surprised if Garbutt goes out for another year.

Don't think the amount of players we have will be a problem come the summer. Anything can happen with transfers. The reason the squad is full is because who has Martinez sold?
