Just had a thought on jan window after reading the guardian article, is it unrealistic to think we could spend 20 million in jan? Put it this way we are likely to get 30 million coming in this summer, either with champions league football, or failing that the inevitable sale of fellaini, why not spend the money now, and improve our champions league prospects and failing that recoup the money we spend with felli money? Win win for me, either champions league or 3 top new signings bedded in for next season with no chaotic summer trying to replace felli? Anyone any thoughts?

Believable22 Unbelievable12

I totally agree, why not take the chance, as you said if we dont get top 4 then felli is going anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

A sensible and well argued point. Therefore it almost certainly wont happen.

Where is the 20 million coming from? Would the banks give us it? Have we got a secret stash? What if Felli changes his mind? I do, however, believe that 3 good signings would turn us into REAL contenders for the title as well. Here's hoping!
Pablo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you mate. I suggested the exact same thing on another everton forum. To me its a no brainer
Cheeks

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds pretty good to me. Lets hope that happens. I want Vadis big time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good points but remember Leeds tried something like that and look what happend to them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Although it makes sense, it does have the possibility of Fellaini staying with everton. If he wants to stay then we would have to sell a number of other players to make up the money spent which would destroy the team.

Dont forget that if we do make europe or even CL, Fellaini could very well decide that everton is worth staying with for at least another year.

Also Moyes has said in the past few days that we wont be buying anyone unless we sell first, he made the comparison of bilyaletdinov last year freeing up funds and said this year is the same. Our best hope is a loan signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

The difference with Leeds was they went down, we have an asset in felli worth 20-30 million of we don't make champions league, he will want to leave, and the rest of the squad will have been improved stopping us "doing a Leeds" and plummeting. Leeds signed oldish players for big money, hence no sell on, we have plenty of saleable players should we need it, most of which would seek a move if we sunk to those depths! I think it's make or break time, do we stick with 6/7/8 every year or seize the chance to join the elite clubs!

Agree0 Disagree0

Love the idea but wages I think we would struggle with if we bought 3 quality signings,
Westy

Agree0 Disagree0

Well where are we getting 20m from without any sells I like your point and makes sense but only if we have that cash around which we don't but I think we should cash in on players I don't think our ever going to be first team players certainly not if we do crash top 4 let's recoup as much as we can without selling top stars here is what who I would sell.

Anichibe - 3-4m
Vellios - 2.5m
Gueye - 2m

This with money that we would get from Europe qualification we could have 12 - 15m to spend

Agree0 Disagree0

What if we spend the money and then don't qualify for Europe because Fellaini is injured - and therefore not available for transfer in the summer? Do we sell Baines, Jelavic and Barkley? I respect those whose opinion is to speculate, but I don't think it's right for the club to spend money we can't be certain of recouping - far too risky IMHO. Only those clubs that already have massive incomes (Man Utd) or wealthy backers (Man City or Chelsea) can spend big. Once we get the income or investment, then we can spend big, but for now prudence - in Moyes we trust - gets my vote. Once a blue, always a blue.
Cowpat Sid

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree in a sense Sid, completely understand your caution, but yeh the plan would be to cash in on someone else. In business you sometimes have to take a risk and hope it pays, it's the best position we've been in for as long as I can remember as an everton fan. Some may say the cautious plan, some may say theres no room for a steady Eddie in business! Like you correctly say though just speculation! One thing I def agree on is whatever route moyes takes we will back him all the way!!

Agree0 Disagree0

It's tough to call really but I don't see how a 'leeds style' catastrophe could happen.

Next year we should be getting a reported '£10 million' extra because of the improved Premier League TV deal and, fingers crossed, should receive a higher fee for our league finishing position.

Unfortunately only Bill knows what the banks are willing to do but I'm sure he's been pitching them and with his acting ability who wouldn't believe him eh?

Moyes would not let on we had much money as prices will inflate, he's smart and all cards will be close to his chest and so they should be.

Looking forward to January though. I've got a good feeling.

Hietinga is the asset that will be sold to free up funds for a permanent and loan signing. A centre mid and a centre forward. Hietinga will be sold for around 4-5 million, plus free up a nice wedge of wages.
Anichebe is disposable BUT there will be little interest. I would like to keep Jonny BUT a world cup final playing centre back will not be happy with being a bench warmer and will go to a big spending Russian side or potentially Italy.

Personally i think the Belgian centre mid will be signed as a permanent deal as thats what we initially wanted but ran out of time so went for a loan instead, and Kevin Gamero will be signed on loan with a CL qualification clause that will mean we buy him should we qualify.

Svenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair point but if we get in the champions league fellaini will more than likely stay another year then we're 20 or 30 million further in debt

Agree0 Disagree0

I like the idea, but wouldn`t any future buying clubs be aware that we had borrowed the money on the strength of selling Fellaini (or whoever), and that would give them a strong bargaining position to offer a lot less ? Just a thought, but yes, i do like the idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly wot I said to a work colleague the other day, its a winner as long as we have the funds or a short term loan to play with! felli is world class and all the top teams want him desperately, there is already a bidding war brewing so if I were on the efc board I would be desperate to keep hold of the big man, so big bill sort 30 mill out and use felli as ur house

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't make the CL. Fellaini breaks a leg in March and is out for almost a year.

Where's our assets now?

That is why we can't spend what we don't have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres no comparision leeds spent over 80 mil tom efc

If we have any sort of funding for transfers this window, I'd be stunned if we chose to spend so much on Remy (or any striker), and neglect our desperation for a central midfielder. Moyes clearly prefers utilising Felli in a more advanced role and without Gibbo, we're extremely weak there.

Any opinions on who you lads would realistically like to see in there?

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Most blues (myself included) are under the impression that we'll be going back for Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, though we may be wrong. I'm also expecting (or possibly hoping) that Ross Barkley will feature a bit more in the coming months.

Completely agree with you though, it is a worryingly thin area of a worryingly thin squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love to see Ben Arfa in there. I think we look a better prospect than Newcastle and maybe an offer of around 10 Mil could tempt them and him. Maybe I'm way off the mark with the price but it's hard to put a figure on players these days. I think he is gonna be a world class player in the right team. I know people will mention wages and lack of money but if we were serious about mounting an assault for the champs league then he is the type of player we should be looking at. A goal scoring midfielder would enable Felli/Gibson partnership to thrive.
Pablo {Ed025's Note - a very good player pablo..but slightly out of our price range i guess mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

Tettey from Norwich looks a steady player he does the simple things and would be a good squad player to fill in for gibbo. And would also be in our price range

Robbie {Ed025's Note - i think i would prefer ofoe, to be honest rob..

Believable10 Unbelievable44

Swap deal for Fellaini, the only way we could afford him, therefore no thanks

Please NO!
Pablo {Ed025's Note - no way....pablo..

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree out of our price range and would mean sacrificing Felliani. A player that fits into our ethos or a money grabbing prima doña. I know which one I'd rather have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't have him anyway. He's very inconsistent plus he has a big ego and that's not the type of player who I want to see at Everton...

This morning's Daily Mirror has us linked with a triple swoop, Lescott (loan), Kevin Gameiro and Ben Yedder.

Believable23 Unbelievable10

13 Dec 2012 00:22:15
Do you think there is any truth in the lescott loan deal rumours ed??

Dave {Ed007's Note - No.}

Believable17 Unbelievable14

Is that answer based off something you have been told or heard, or is it based on an opinion?

Personally, would take him back, Jags and Lescott was truly one of the best partnerships in this division and clean sheets were more or less or a common feature when those two played (we haven't had a clean sheet in 10+ games). Not to mention, this is a lad who scored 10 goals for us in a season.

Sell Heitinga, bring in Lescott on loan, use the Heitinga money on a midfielder and striker, then hopefully secure CL places, then if we want we could afford to buy Lescott permanently and a few others, if we don't secure Lescott, goes back to City.

Agree0 Disagree0

PSG are trying to hustle their way into any transfer of Lescott.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes with rodwell ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Really guys? Sell one your centerbacks and bring someone who spat on the club + with astronomical wages on loan? We wouldn't be able to afford him for next season. We would be stuck with jags, an aging Distin and Duffy who hasn't played much. Great move for the club...

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Moyes is shrewd enough to use anyone if he feels its good for the club, so maybe Lescott could return, as for Rodwell why would we want a injured lad back? we did well to sell him cant see how his return would add anything we havent got..

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Lescott could be seen by many as 'doing the dirty' on us. But it was Hughes who tapped him up and that's who the anger should've been directed at, at the time. We got a decent fee for him and winning the cup and Premier League means he was justified in moving. I'd take him back in an instant, on loan if need be. BlueTone
