Im just watching the Wigan game at Huddersfield and what is striking me is just how different Wigan's approach is in playing a lower division side compared to us.

They play with more intelligence for a start and that's even with their 2nd team non of this hoofing it and hoping for the best like we were doing in the first half yesterday at Oldham.

I guess what i'm saying is Wigan play like a football team while we tend to make games into a battle, and that's down to the two managers.

Mike S

Believable11 Unbelievable5

Total agreement mike we would of struggled against Huddersfield too as well as Oldham. all down to the tactics of the manager. jimmy

Agree0 Disagree0

Well guess its a good thing everyone thinks Martinez is our next gaffer then. lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Have a look at the league table

Agree0 Disagree0

Who has the better players us or them? Us of course. Now which team plays the more progressive football? Them by a mile.

Agree0 Disagree0

Which team are constantly in the relegation zone? Them - last post sounds like Rodgers!

Agree0 Disagree0

Quit while your behind mate as it looks like the majority are with me on this one. Mike S

Agree0 Disagree0

So, Mike S, you would like to swap the way Wigan play with the way we play? Where are the two teams in the league? If we were in Wigan's position then I'm sure you would be here moaning how bad we are! Another ridiculous post. We are off form, no doubting that, but to think you want us to play like Wigan is such a crazy notion. We play like them and we are in the bottom half of the league without question. Be careful what you wish for.
Spudv

Agree0 Disagree0

We have better players than Wigan, so how do you come to the conclusion if we played in the same style as them we would be in the same position as them? That's like saying if Manchester United played in the same style as Stoke then they would in the same position as Stoke which wouldn't be true as Utd have better players. Mike S

Agree0 Disagree0

Martinez is an urban myth mate, he manages a team who`ve conceded 51 goals so far this season in the Prem. If he wants to set up teams like that, let him stay at Wigan.
Bluefish.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mike S, you spout the biggest amount of bs I've ever heard. For a start, I was following your own logic with you saying they play with far more intelligence than us. If that was the case then why are they in the lower regions of the league and us the opposite? We have a better team, granted, but if you like them more than us then get your backside down to the DW Stadium and follow Wigan. Your original comment was ridiculous in the extreme, get a grip lad.
spudv

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets just agree to disagree on this one spudv your entitled to your opinion and I don't agree with it so leave it their.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bluefish tells us all exactly how it is Mike. They played well (Wigan) in their last cup game against a lower league team but have conceded far too many goals in the league. This makes it silly to compare both teams. We did struggle against lower opposition but at least we have a chance to redeem ourselves. If DM does decide to leave in the summer then I hope we stay away from Martinez, his record in the prem on a limited budget is not good enough for a club like ours
spudv

Agree0 Disagree0

Huddersfield didn't press Wigan when they had the ball and allowed them to move it around. Oldham pressed us from the start and showed us a lot of respect as they knew if they let us play a passing game they would get hammered. The Man City game was the same, Leeds didn't put a tackle in when City scored their goals and were a couple of yards away when City were in possession.

17 Feb 2013 16:21:23
We will go for Darren Fletcher on a pay-as-you-play deal in the summer if Moyes stays

Man city going to offer 23m plus Sinclair and Richards for fellaini

Believable10 Unbelievable19

Take that every time mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we don't qualify for Champions League, which I hate to say it is looking increasingly unlikely. Given a very tricky run in. I'd take that two good players Richards as a successor to Hibbo and Sinclair for Peanuts when he starts to show the age.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would bite there hands off for that offer COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

The OP has it wrong Man City are going to offer a deal worth 23m that mean a little bit of money and the two players not 23m and two players. {Ed007's Note - One of the players could be Gael Clichy.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, would definitely take that (but doubt it's true). Fellaini is a good player but by no means a great one, another good example of how decent players in the Premier are turned into 'world-beaters' by the press, sometimes after only having one good season (Sinclair himself, for example). I'd be much more devastated by losing Bainesy than Fellaini.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is clichy not on something like 100k a week

I'm not trying to criticising Phil Neville, but he can't be playing at right back on the weekend, the man just doesn't have the legs to play full back anymore. The problem is who do we put in? I haven't seen Stones play yet, but he has been getting good reviews, so do we put him in or move Jags to Rb? What do you all reckon?
Toffeepidge

Believable14 Unbelievable4

I respect phil nevile, done a good job for the club on and of the park, but, age has caught up with him, and that is why, in our strech fiancial circumstanes, it seems very odd that he is to be offered a new contract, real good pro, but time to leave the stage, or take a step down to a lower div.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd prefer Nev at RB instead of Jags, which would mean Johnny in the centre.

Any idea how long Coleman and Hibbo are off Ed? {Ed001's Note - Coleman should be back for next weekend, though not sure when Hibbert is back.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Play Stones. Do not move Jags.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whilst we all know jags can play in that position, I would say give others a change, duffy, or stones? Please no Heitinga at the back, we cannot afford to lose anymore stupid goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Imho jags should never play in any other position than centre back full stop. And don't get me started with Neville. Yes ok good pro bla bla bla we need more than someone whos a good pro never been a good player average at best adds nothing to the team playing wise and he's restricted the development of players such as rodwell and barkley by moyes continually picking him. jimmy

Agree0 Disagree0

Oviedo looked comfortable at right back when he came on as sub. thgfest

Agree0 Disagree0

Coleman definitely fit 4 sat. nearly made yesterday.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is not only the fact the Neville legs have gone-he cannot pass the ball forward--always square or backwards--we lose all momentum when he is in possession--unbelievable how someone with so little talent can have such a career as he has had {Ed025's Note - he has had a good career..because he has been a damn good player!..he is coming towards the end of it granted, but has always given 100%..

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought exactly the same watching him last night, he certaintly doesn't have the same sort of influence he was having 18 months ago. Time catches us all in the end and think it may be time for him to move on to the next stage in his career. Been a great bloke to have around though, cheers mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has had a good career because football isn't all about superstars. You need an organiser, motivator and someone with a calm head. Sometimes you need someone just to do the ugly stuff like break up play and give it to lads who can play. He is a great pro, a role model, great ambassador for everton and we get a lot more points with him in the side. I hope his association with everton continues for a long time! Go on skipper! Lead us to wembley!

I really don't get this obsession that Mr Moyes has. He buys a player, then plays them out of position, I mean how are we going to get anywhere with osman playing right midfield? mirallas is better as a striker, yet he plays out him out wide, naismith is a similar player to cahill was, yet he shoves him out wide right, where he is utterly useless. At 2-1 yesterday we should have stuck the knife in and really put them to bed, we sit back every time we get a lead, its just inevitable that the goal will come. Just a shame the boss can't see it

Alex

Believable18 Unbelievable3

I note a theme running through this one. Why not just say we need a right midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Naysmith and merelles spelling are bith ment to beable to play in a number of positions that's why we got them like jags lescot billy jonny an so on that's what we have to do because we have a small squad

I know we are still in the cup and more than likely we will win the replay easily BUT today was just another example of why under David Moyes with the greatest of respect we will never win a trophy.
Once again we are in the lead during a 2nd half, and you just know what's going to happen under the guidance of Moyes. Sit back and defend instead of either killing the game by keeping possession or go for another goal. He has done this all too often in his time with us. For that reason and that reason alone we will win nothing with Moyes. He has been unbelievable for us and I love him for what he has done, if he stayed I would be delighted but at the same time if he went at the end of the season it wouldn't bother me, I would be excited to see a fresh positive manager in. I'm not being negative here lads before you start I'm just saying would you be as gutted as you thought you would be maybe 1-2 years ago at the thought of not having Moyes as manager? I wouldn't.

Steve

Believable16 Unbelievable6

Sorry lad but make your mind up, one minute your moaning that he is too negative and we won't win anythin with him in charge, then your saying you will be delighted if he stays! stop moaning for the sake of moaning and make your mind up!

Agree0 Disagree0

?? I said if he stayed I would be delighted because he turned us into a competitive side that's usually up near the top 6 and that's better than relegation battles but at the same time I would know that more than likely we would not win a trophy with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is anyone going to give credit to Oldham they forced us on to the back foot towards the end and deserved the replay. Moyes made a similar substitution against Bolton & it worked.

As for plying people in their correct positions Mirralis Naysmith played out wide many times for previous clubs and their countries.

No moaning over score but FA and everyone who like to see fair play have got to stop to what is becoming 'the norm' for free kicks and corners. Grabbing, holding and basically trying to make love 'Doggy Stlyle' {Jags Goal) to fowards/defenders must be stopped. Cannot for the life of me understand how all pros getting away with this!
Corner comes in and you wrap both arms around an apponent? It's a penalty or a free kick!
Until we back refs to award penalties (that would be free kicks out of the box) we are stuck with 'Premier Rugby League' and that's what did us tonight!

Brian Labone Never Needed to Do That!
Mushroom Man {Ed007's Note - A Scottish referee said after the Celtic v Juventus game that referees can't give free kicks or take any action because the ball is not in play......hhhhhmmmmmm

Anyone else see their goalkeeper thinking he was defending a corner when they scored? They were lucky he didn't make contact (hands, that is)

But come on guys. A draw at a League 1 side is not the end of football. Every team does this. Ok, Jelly can't score, and because our defence no longer sees Jelly score week in week out they decide to let the opponent score so they keep seeing goals. Look at Arsenal. They have no trophy for I think about 8 years (and won't win one until at least ext year because I can't seem lifting the CL at Wembley), but they make the CL season in season out.

Keep going. I can assure you we will be in this site on the 16th March saying how could our season could well finish (resulting in, although I doubt it, the CL and the FA Cup) after beating the oil company from Manchester.

Finally, Moyes. I think if he goes we will move on. If we think losing Moyesy will be bad, look at Utd. The pressure on the next manager to do as good as Fergie will be as much as Kilmanjaro.

Martinez, Holloway or Laudrup is who I'd like to see step into Goodison as our next manager. Everyone else's thoughts?

Keith EFC.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

A few mis-spelt words in there, sorry. Autocorrect is so annoying!

Keith EFC.

If Moyes was to leave I would be looking at Martinez, Laudrup, Di Matteo and Hughton. I could though see us going for Eddie Howe at Bournemouth.
Joe EFC

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally want di canio, Martinez is ok but has less passion than a dead frog
Marouanes mop {Ed025's Note - can you really see di canio and BK, having a meaningful discussion on transfers and club policy?, because i cant..

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal don't have a trophy because all their Champions League money goes to paying back the loans they took out to build their ground. We don't have a trophy because we haven't got Champions League money anyway. If you ever look at net spend of clubs, Utd, City and Chelsea are miles ahead of anyone. The Arse have hardly spent any more than us. hence them having to blood kids all the time. The reds have managed to spend, but have done the odd bit of crazy business eg Torres that has brought them in 50 million. Oh and they ripped off two yanks for 200 million otherwise they would be bankrupt by now. They will probably sell Suarez and sign 3 or 4 good premiership players which will hold them at the level they are at. To get back to the point. we have only had a net spend of a couple of million each year under Moyes. He has balanced the books by selling Lescott, Rooney, Rodwell etc for vast profit. Until we get in the Champions League for say 3 years running, we cannot grow into the next level. Every qualification for the Champions League generates about 25-50 million depending on progress. (group stages). If Arsenal fail to qualify for 2 or 3 seasons, they will be the same as Liverpool are now. ie looking straight into the barrel of a gun. I put UTD, CITY and Chelsea in a different league to others just because of the financial clout generated by regular Champions League qualification. To get as close as we have to a trophy is a brilliant achievement by all at Everton Football Club.
Degsypulford {Ed025's Note - good post degsy, hard to argue with that mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see Martinez given a go If Moyesy decides to leave. Personally though I think he'd be making a big mistake if he went because he ain't going to get the time to get things right at another club where it's seen as mandatory to be winning things all the time. Everton and moyes are a perfect fit.
