So there are strong rumours we've submitted a £16 million bid for the guy Perez at Deportivo who looks good imo. reports in Italy also saying we're close to sealing a deal for Napolis Gabbiadini at £26 million who also looks good. Ed, do you know if we're looking to sign both these strikers? Or will it be 1 or the other?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Deportivo's Lucas Perez has been performing well this past season and was watched by Arsenal, CSKA Moscow, Liverpool and Valencia. However, the season has been a peak in an otherwise pretty average journeyman career and Deportivo know that his value is at a peak. I suspect the English sides will see sense and will step back although it is known that Steve Walsh Kostas Floris about the player's availability - as he may have done earlier in the Summer when Vardy was expected to move on. Deportivo will be very happy with a sale to England - caveat emptor.

Napoli's Manolo Gabbiadini has attracted firm offers from Schalke, West Ham, Sevilla and Valencia according to the club - but none are acceptable. Southampton, Everton, Swansea, Bologne, Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt, Crystal Palace and Spurs have all expressed an interest but have not approached Napoli with an offer. Napoli are keen to resolve his future but that might well depend on the future of others at the club and a player they are talking about trying to bring in. And having lost out on Jese they may look to a new contract with Gabbiadini.}}

So let the buyer beware then Ed.

Daily mail reporting arsenal are rival us for Perez and they have submitted 16.9 mil for him don't know if this is true.

If Arsenal are really in for him then they can offer Champions League and living in London - both of which are surely big attractions for European players.

He signed for deportivo 1.3m a year ago is that right? At least we can expect the club to be for it great business for them.

Instead of paying overy the odds for an average journeyman as Ed002 states how about going in for Jay Rodriguez from Saints who is apparently available after a nightmare injury. He is apparently available on loan so would only command a minimal loan fee and has Premier League experience. If it's true Arsenal are rivalling us for Perez then we will get him because Arsenal have the worst negotiating team when it comes to transfers just look at Mustafi deal 😂 but in all seriousness I think Rodriguez has got to be worth a punt.

I like him too blue but think his injury record speaks for itself.

I wouldn't touch Rodriguez with a barge pole. is too much of a sicknote.

As was Louis Saha but we got something out of him. Alls I'm saying is rather than pay near on 20 million for a 1 season wonder who has no experience of our league, take a punt on a proven goalscorer at this level who before his serious injury was not a sicknote. Would you rather gamble £16.5m on a player who may not hack it (think Niasse) or gamble on a proven goalscorer who has had a tough run past couple of seasons. I know which I would gamble on.

There is a few problems with signing him 1st he is at Southampton they won't do us any favours 2nd he has had a bad injury 3rd and lastly he just not that good we need s striker that will get you 20 goals a season if not more and not s player that will get us 10.

Has the lad actually played many games in the prem Bluegray? You say he has experience in the prem but I haven't seen much of him in this league as he has suffered too many serious injuries over the last few years. Agree he is a decent player but we have a couple of players in the squad already who spend too much time on the treatment table.

54 games with 21 goals scored. That was 2012-14 before he suffered his knee injury. I feel he can play up top with Rom as he is a player who can work the channels is good at holding the ball up and can score goals. Yes he has missed the last 1 and half seasons through injury, but realistically who else is there out there that is available that we can attract? I've got to trust Ed002 assessment of Perez as I haven't seen him myself and that assessment is he had one good season last year in an otherwise average journeyman career. Sounds like a Darren Benthe sort of striker then.

Just looked up his stats on wikipedia, it is 21 goals in 80 premier league appearances. Think I'd rather look elsewhere tbh.

{Ed025's Note - i have been speaking with ED002 spud and he reckons we will have dodged a bullet if he goes to arsenal..

25 Aug 2016 19:17:57
Them stats were for Jay Rodriguez ed25, in reply to bluegray. I did see ed002's comments regarding Perez though and will take his word on the type of player he may be. Never seen him in action so can't comment myself.

{Ed025's Note - oh ok mate..

Papers reporting efc are in 'advance talks' for cuco Martina and the daily mail are repoeting efc have submitted a 16m bid for lucas perez. No sure on Martina but perez looks boss. Ikwt.

Efcfanatic think Lucas Perez would be great sigining for us he scores goals in a competitive league and someone who will put pressure on ROM to perform which he has never had here as for cuco not to sure about but will go with ronnie judgement as all signing so for have been quality additions to squad.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is to do with Walsh and not Koeman.}

24 Aug 2016 13:29:05
Ed002: please clarify what RK and SW each bring to the transfer decision-making process at Everton. Does RK specify what type of player he wants OR does he just get given what SW chooses and told to get on with it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Neither - it really doesn't work like that Sid.}

24 Aug 2016 15:02:28
Ed002: so how does it work? I think I'm a reasonable poster who understands a few things about football, but I'd like to be better-informed about how transfers "work" when a DoF and a manager/ coach (and maybe others) are all apparently involved - and you're the man who seems to be most knowledgeable. Pretty please :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It varies club to club and it is based on discussions about what the best options are, what the club wants to spend etc..}

24 Aug 2016 15:46:05
Ed002; thanks for that - your replies are much appreciated.

ed. Is kone from sunderland, now dead in the water, or do you think the club could make it happen.
when one of our players wants out, they always seem able to force the issue, under contract or not.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats not strictly true JCW lukaku now and stones last year were told they had to stay, on kone it does look like he will stay at sunderland but dont rule out a last minute deal mate..

24 Aug 2016 07:20:15
Could just be Moyes playing the game, states he is going nowhere while he frantically searches for signings then let's him go
Think back to Lescott, Moyes tried keeping him, he wanted to go and only played at 50% and was then let go to Man City with Kone and his sudden bad back he could well be off.
But then I could have it completely wrong.

True Southern Toffee, but do we want that type of attitude at our club? If he's refusing to play until he gets his move, that's a bit worrying to me.

24 Aug 2016 08:39:49
Sunderland are as much to blame. If they offered him the contract they promised to in the first place he more than likely would not of looked for a move.

Quality addition imho. Think he would be happy here. I do feel for Sunderland supporters but Moyes is obviously playing the game imo. He would be taking a chance holding on to him after the transfer window and risk getting half the price he would get now if things continue in a soar note with the player.

24 Aug 2016 09:28:46
Nbtb, I originally thought that, but haven't they just offered him that contract and he turned it down?

Saying that, we don't really know what's gone on so if we do get him, I'll reserve judgment and, like everyone, give him my support.

Moyes wants Jagielka in the deal? and that's the hold up?

I think kone will move at the last Minit . Moyes will be looking for replacements now. i think Moyes learnt his lesson with the lescot situation at Everton.

24 Aug 2016 11:19:30
Yes copper but its the way they went about it. Thought they were going to wait until September 1st. Then offered him a contract. Its all very confusing really.

Stig you could be right with the hold up. Jags or McCarthy even may be wanted by Sunderland.

Moyes's comments about relegation and not attracting players are a double-edged sword.
He might be goading the club into spending big to preserve their Premier League place.
On the other hand - strange though it might seem - the club might cut spending in order to prepare for relegation and loss of telly money, etc.
Plus there's the usual Moyes "knife to a gunfight" excuses as to why his team don't always do well.

The problem with Kones proposed new contract from Sunderland was that it was proposed by the CEO who has now left the club along with big sam. This meant the new deal went out the door with the old and when the new came in they were in the process of squad assessment thus his contract offer was pushed to the fringes for a while which Kone took exception to.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 17:45:07
Yep exactly FTM! So I can't see Kone doing much wrong. Yes there is argument for both sides. The terms have changed from the arrangement he had made when joining club. Does that make him unreasonable to look for a move? It works both ways imho.

I don't think he's being unreasonable but I bet there are plenty of Sunderland fans who think he is.
