So what happened with this Gabbiadini fella, we chased in the summer regards a £25m deal from what reports have said now he is going for £13.5m with another £3.5m in add ons related to goals according to Sky
So you have to wonder why we are no longer interested, any insight Eds?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - it looks like napoli were trying to screw us ST and the club knew it, maybe we have had enough and refuse to deal with them mate..

26 Jan 2017 18:54:36
They say he off to Southampton is that right Ed

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - a couple are interested AB but southampton look front runners mate..

26 Jan 2017 19:10:15
I'm hoping we've got other strikers that were looking at eds because if lukaku gets a knock then we're between a rock and a hard place. Is there no way efc could rival Southampton offer?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not going to happen. Everton has plenty of options and has added Lookman.}

26 Jan 2017 19:20:38
Hi Eds I know Donkor is set for the under 23s but is he good enough for the first team because I still think we're light up front

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't think so - Everton has plenty of options.}

26 Jan 2017 19:31:30
You have said that twice Ed 002 re plenty of options. I am assuming that's not Kone or Valencia. So any clues?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Lukaku, Mirallas, Lookman, Valencia, Koné.}

26 Jan 2017 19:49:15
So you don't think another out and out striker is a must then. Ed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Plus Naisse and Tarashaj out on loan and no doubt some kiddies I don't know - it seems pretty overloaded until Lukaku leaves in the summer.}

26 Jan 2017 20:05:55
Think your right about Lukaku leaving but I still think we need a proven out and out striker to replace him

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - And Bolasie out injured.

The time to look for a replacement is in the summer when more will be available and they will be easier to buy.}

This fella Ed whoever he or she is, must be one of the most patient people around. No wonder sometimes his/ her comments once exasperated are a little caustic.

Niasse scored for Hull tonight, he looked quite sharp, should we have given him more of a chance?

Don't forget Calvert-Lewin who has played for the first team this year. I know he is out injured but it is only a short term injury.

Saying we've got cover for when Lukaku leaves in Kone and Niasse is like saying it doesn't matter if you crash your Ferrari because you've got a Nissan in the garage

Don't forget Bigdunc the Eds also put comments on other sites like utd, City and liverpool

ed002, you say 'until' Lukaku leaves in the summer, is that the word behind the scenes that he is definitely off?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There remains every likelihood that he will leave as he wants to play at the highest level.}

27 Jan 2017 08:14:55
Cheers ed, for a minute I thought you had something concrete for us. I expect him to move on sooner rather than later. Let's hope we can secure a replacement who can score

None of the names mentioned above are replacements / alternatives for Lukaku. The issue is if he gets injured - what happens then? Most of the names mentioned have been tried alongside or instead of Rom ( Kone / Valencia / Mirallas ) and are not good enough. DCL looked okay in his short spell before the injury but jury out. Lookman to me is more of a winger and both Tarashaj and Niasse have been deeemed not up to it.
So I don't see any of them as 'options'.

Whether Rom leaves in summer or not we need another quality striker. And getting one and qualifying for Europe may persuade him that the significant improvement over 12 months means Everton are becoming a top club again

The point I was makeing was in total how many goals have all the above scored, we still need a out and out striker if Rom gets injured

Spot on Dave.

Agree Dave. If we are serious about trying to break in to the top five before the end of this season then we need another striker. Not a winger, not a midfielder supporting the striker, but an out and out striker.
I would seriously consider Defoe on a short contract. Especially if as reported Mr M is after one or two of our players.

With Niasse, isn't the point of a striker to score goals and by all accounts he scored for our under 23's and now last night he scored against Utd. The bloke may be all arms and legs and coordination apparently non-existent but he does put the ball in the net.

Bigduncsmum - that response leaves me as exasperated as the Eds! In this day and age you have to do a little bit more than just put the ball in the net. It is pointless if every time the ball goes up to him it is lost / bounces off him.
He certainly seems to be able to score goals at a certain level but he also things (and tries) to score from the corner flag with alarming regularity.
