I've just picked up the news that we're apparently showing an interest in Martin Montoya, the 23 year old right back from Barcelona. It could be a permanent signing by all accounts and would be better opposition for Seamus, who has struggled with several injuries this season.
Any thoughts Blues' fans?

Daveyboy Blue

1.) Yeh he properly could also play cb which I could see why were after him

2.) It would be best to get the lad on loan and see what's he's worth.
Its too risky to sell Coleman and just line him up as areplacement with his injury-history.

3.) The idea that we're even contemplating transferring Coleman - with this Montoya as a replacement - is beyond belief imho. RM has shown he's not in the business of letting our best players go. The only risk would be if a player wants to go AND we can get a fee that is too good to turn down and the money can be used to add quality and depth to the squad.

Just heard that there is a Press Conference today at 4.00 at Finch Farm. Is this for Roberto to announce something 'big' on the Lukaku front? Just hoping.

Daveyboy Blue

1.) Am hearing it could be to reveal cleverly. just gossip not itk.

2.) Henen and Difara Sakho deal done.

Eds, any news on the Gareth Barry situation? I read last week that he was waiting until he'd returned from holiday before he'd make his mind up regarding which club he'd choose for next season. Is he back yet? Out of respect will he be talking to us first? I understand West Ham and Arsenal are reputedly offering more money, but surely he is settled in the North West and has just completed one of the best seasons of his career alongside Jimmy Mac. I hope remembers that the 'grass is not always greener. ' plus at his age he can't be short of a bob or two. I just hope he stays with us.

Daveyboy Blue

{Ed002's Note - I can't imagine he would have such a short holiday.}

With plenty of speculation about transfers this month I was wondering if we might get the ball moving earlier rather than later. Danny Ings at Burnley would imo be a good addition. His scoring record has been impressive this season, I don't think he'd expect huge wages and it wouldn't mean he'd have to relocate from one area of the country to another.
OK so Burnley would expect a sizeable fee but I reckon we'd compromise around the 4/5 million mark. Now before some people start complaining that that's too much for a Championship player, remember we paid 13 million for James McCarthy back in the summer from a Championship club; a fee that now looks a snip with the way he's slotted into the team alongside Gareth Barry.
Onwards and upwards. COYB

Daveyboy Blue

{Ed025's Note - I think you can at least double that davey,..

1.) The difference between McCarthy and Ings is McCarthy has premier experience. that's why we ended up paying 13 million. Ings would be a expensive risk. I agree with ed that you can double the 4/5 million to get Ings.

Hi Eds
Can you fill me in on the latest regarding Ryan Gauld from Dundee Utd? I keep hearing that we are one of a number of clubs chasing this youngster. Are we any closer?
If not why not?

Daveyboy Blue

{Ed007's Note - He has signed a new deal keeping him at DU until 2017. I would be surprised to see him move before summer 2015. He has only just turned 18 and would be best served staying where he is for now, he isn't going to walk into an EPL team and no offence but I can't see him signing for Everton when he does move. Clubs will throw money at the lad when he is ready to move and I think Everton will be priced out of it.
Everton are one of the teams linked with Joe Ledley from Celtic who is out of contract in the summer and is expected to move in January, Celtic don't want to lose him for nothing in the summer.}

1.) 23 Dec 2013 12:53:59
ed i'm sure you are a celtic fan but not sure, if you are, is joe ledley any good?

Mike-Ox Long

{Ed007's Note - Yes I am a Celtic fan Mike. Personally I like Ledley and would like him to stay up here, he has a great engine and will run for 90 mins, although he isn't the quickest. He can play as a CM or on the left and likes to get forward, arriving late in the box or shooting from distance, he will also put in a shift doing the defensive part of his job as well. Ledley is the type of player doesn't waste many passes and isn't easily knocked off the ball. A lot of Celtic fans say he is our cheap version of Lampard. If you do sign him you are getting a very consistent and intelligent player.}

2.) Seen him at Cardiff for years. Championship player at best I'm afraid.

Toffee ace

3.) Seen him best resita in Championship while he played for Cardift.

4.) Are you having a laugh Toffee Ace? Ledley has loads of champions league experience and is a cracking player. I'd be delighted if we signed him especially as a free transfer, he's only 26 as well. I've seen him playing for Wales a lot.

Cardiff Toffee Blue

5.) FFS, talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel. From Fernando and M'Vila to Joe feckin' Ledley. Not nearly good enough for EFC, the poor man's Joe 'Xavi' Allen. Horrific player.

Dex

6.) Cardiff Toffee Blue, I'm not having a laugh. You can't just say he's got loads of CL experience or else everyone from Celtic would be good enough. I've seen him play for Cardiff, Wales quite a bit too and he's just not good enough. I don't care if he's free.

He was good in Cardiff side that bottled it everytime they got close to the premier league. So that's enough for me to tell me that he's not what is needed to get us where we are going

Toffee ace

Just picked up some news that Luke Garbett has agreed to sign a new 5 year deal with us, but is likely to be farmed out on loan to another Premiership side this season.
If this is true it's just the news we've been waiting on after the wall of silence that has emanated from Goodison since the Cleverley deal was concluded.

I keep hearing negative comments surrounding Neil Lennon from some sections of our support. For me he has been an excellent loan signing even if he was 3rd choice at Spurs and was cup tied for the EL. With a fee set at 6m he should be an immediate signing when the window opens this summer.
McGeady on the other hand has been poor. Sell him this summer in an attempt to try and recuperate something from what we shelled out. Send Atsu back to Chelsea as his loan signing hasn't worked out.
Mirallas and Kone are both problems but for different reasons. Kev has obvious talent but clearly sees himself as being better than the Club. If the price is right (at least 10m) then sell but I'd still be sad to see him leave. Kone has been injured throughout last year and has only just returned this season in place of Rom. Again for me he is not good enough and makes me wonder why Danny Ings was not a better target. After all RM must have tracked him in the Championship from his Wigan days as I suggested throughout last season.
Other players who should be leaving will be Distin and Alcatraz (why on earth was he ever signed?). Howard will probably stay for at least another season or two as will Hibbert and Barry.

Why would poeple criticise Neil Lennon Bolton aren't doing too bad

2.) 13 Apr 2015 13:04:26
Neil Lennon Bolton manager ex Leicester ginger or Aaron Lennon?

3.) 13 Apr 2015 12:51:13
Neil Lennon? I thought it was John Lennon we've had pacing down the wing. Still got some legs on him for an old boy I give him that ;-)

4.) 13 Apr 2015 13:53:24
In the immortal words of the late great John Lennon (RIP)

Haven't been on here as much as I should have been this season for a number of reasons, but I had to say that this next week is now massive for Everton FC.
1. Newcastle Utd at home this afternoon has become a must win after Burnley's shock win against Citeh. We're currently only 3 points off 17th. I think we will win although it'll be tight. 2-1 to Everton.
2. Kiev away Thursday night. It would have been nice to have had more than a one goal cushion after that second half display and their away goal could prove crucial. But I think we'll go through, just. 0-0 on the night.
3. QPR away next Sunday. On paper this should be the easiest fixture, but after a 3000 mile journey back from the Ukraine we will come unstuck. 2-0 defeat to the poorest club in the division.
I might be wrong but I can see our domestic fate going to the wire in May irrespective of how far we go in Europe.

1.) 15 Mar 2015 12:01:18
We have a few players coming back from injury that may not be on the trip and could be considered fresh next Saturday? even if McGeady is one of them!

Another disappointment following Thursday's morale boosting performance in Switzerland. What is going on? Leicester (currently bottom of the League) should have been there for the taking today, yet controlled much of the game and having gone a goal down were then looking at taking 3 points but for Everton's late equaliser. Why are we doing this to ourselves?

To blame?
1. Tim Howard. At fault for both goals today, when Robles who'd kept clean sheets when brought in was again considered second best. His 'smile' when faffing a simple clearance said it all - as has been notified by another poster.
2. Ross Barkley. 'Phenomenal' and 'a world beater' if you believe our manager. Couldn't pass or defend today. Sell him in the summer if someone is stupid to offer £30m plus.
3. Leighton Baines. Now looking past his best. Not capable of crossing the ball or defending as he should. Drop him for the Europa 2nd leg in favour of Luke Garbett who should not be allowed to run down his contract and leave. He is the natural replacement LB for the future but will probably end up elsewhere next season.
4. Romelu Lukaku. Wasted at least 3/4 good scoring opportunities today before finally creating the own goal from Upson with a brave header. £28m striker? Not domestically despite Thursday's hat trick. He needs to hold the ball better and turn like Bony and other top strikers can.
5. Roberto Martinez. Now sussed out domestically, if not yet in Europe. Why wait to bring on Super Kev with less than 10 mins remaining? This game was crying out for someone to strike the ball either from dead balls or open play. We missed his talent today as we are likely to next season.
Relegation is still very much a reality despite the dross beneath us. This shouldn't be happening after the expectations of last season. A nervy last 10 games or so methinks.

Wow, what a great away performance in Switzerland having gone a goal down against the run of play.
So why is it that we've left our best performances for the Europa League and yet played like a Sunday pub team domestically?
I thought Rom looked awesome tonight and took his hat trick with ease. Indeed he could have scored at least another couple, but for two good early saves from their keeper.
The only sour note was John Stones' red card. It seemed a little harsh to me and now he misses the next 3 Europa matches. But the way in which Everton held firm for the last half hour with 10 men against 11 bodes well for the Leicester match on Sunday.
All in all, I'm a proud Evertonian tonight.

Daveyboy Blue

1.) Wow three games is more than I would have thought! Seems harsh in a knockout competition

2.) Daveyboy Blue: Are you sure that Stones will get a 3 match suspension?

3.) It is because Martinez has no plan b. We were great last season as teams did not know how to handle our new style, this season in the league we have been found out and he refuses to try anything different to surprise the opposition who have a clear and effective game plan to nullify us.
In Europe we are facing teams who we don't play regularly and they get caught out as we do not play in typically English way. If we were in Europe consistently playing these teams regularly then again we would eventually get found out.

4.) 20 Feb 2015 10:53:32
I thought it was just 1 game as it was a professional foul?
Also I think it will help him more than not as he is still young and obviously the potential is there but he sometimes dies still overplay it and this will hopefully teach him that there I'd a time to play and a time to get rid, in the long term I think bthis will be a valuable lesson and allow him to fulfill his potential in becoming England's best CB!

5.) Stones should get just a 1 match suspension - unless UEFA make an exception and extend it, but I couldn't think why they would do that.

Article 22 (Yellow and Red cards) of the UEFA Europa League regulations States:
22.01 As a rule, a player who is sent off the field of play is suspended for the next match in a UEFA club competition. The Control and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment. For serious offences the punishment can be extended to all UEFA competition categories.
22.02 In case of repeated cautions:
a) before the group stage, a player is suspended for the next competition match after three cautions in three different matches, as well as after the fifth caution;
b) from the first match in the group stage, a player is suspended for the next competition match after three cautions in three different matches, as well as following any subsequent odd-numbered caution (fifth, seventh, ninth, etc.).
22.03 Single yellow cards and pending suspensions are always carried forward either to the next stage of the competition or to another club competition in the current season.
22.04 Exceptionally, all yellow cards and pending yellow-card suspensions expire on completion of the play-offs. They are not carried forward to the group stage.
22.05 Cautions and pending yellow-card suspensions from club competition matches expire at the end of the season.

6.) Svenny: I'm sure that every opposition has done their homework on us - analysing our tactics and assessing our strengths and weaknesses. In general, I don't imagine that our style of play - even given that we might make a few tweaks here and there when playing against certain teams and special opposing players - is that much of a surprise to any team we play.
I do think, however, that we - as a team and as individuals - have just not been "going for it" in too many matches this season. Whatever the reason, we just haven't been truly "up for it".
You might have a point about "RM and no plan B", as we haven't always seemed to be able to adapt to the opposition's tactical changes during matches this season.
However, imho the performance against YBB - and hence the result - was much more like it and very welcome and a hopeful sign for the remainder of the season. Having established a comfortable lead - and therefore in no need to chase the game - when we went down to 10 men we sensibly retained the ball passing it around simply and accurately (possession football!), but didn't just sit back and we continued going forward without being gung-ho. A very professional display.
:-)

7.) Svenny: In my humble opinion, teams are so well drilled these days - and coaches have tactics and formations (their own team's and the opposition's) well documented and diagrammed (for example on iPads) - that most aspects are covered.
I reckon that it's most frequently mistakes by players - including failing to follow tactical instructions - that lead to most of the conceded goals. That and the occasional flash of brilliance (worldies!) from opposing players. By definition, even the conceding of a goal because of some wonderful and intricate interplay could be considered a failure to adequately defend against such a move. Of course, the scorers would be looking to exploit the defensive weaknesses of the opposition, but - again by definition - it's mistakes by the defenders (be that down to their technical, tactical or organisational inadequacies - or they're just not good enough!) that lead to goals being conceded. That and the scorers being good enough to cause these "mistakes" by the defenders.

8.) Does anyone know if sangogo is having action taken against him,for kicking barkley in the side of his head, when laid on the floor.it looked deliberate to me.

{Ed025's Note - i would doubt it dentie..

9.) Cowpat mate, you should know by now that several posters on here only post just to get a reaction.
# we are Everton
#we don't win anything

#is The Real Mike fat raffa?
#is svenny Sven goran erickson?
The Real Blue Lee

10.) Blue Lee: Some of those posts - with all due respect to posters of genuine & honestly-held opinions - seem so nutty that I guess the reactions they're hoping for are allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock)! I wonder if that's why some posters are so anti Pienaar (aka Peanut)?
;-)

Cowpat. I'm more than happy to bow to your superior knowledge regarding UEFA rules. I presumed that John Stones would be looking at a 3 game ban after his sending off on Thursday night. If as you suggest it will simply be a 1 game ban (next week's 2nd leg) no one will be happier than me. Thanks for putting me straight on this

But we did replace Duffy when we signed Brendon Galloway in the summer. If these rumours are true, then Brendon is a better prospect than Alcaraz.

This is another example of mischief making. Romelu is staying this season and for the next two or three at the very least. He was keen to leave Chelsea and readily accepted that 5 year deal. Methinks Kopite or Red Mancs involvement is behind this.

Me too Tedster. Once McCarthy is back and firing on all cylinders, he and Besic should be the holding midfielders with Barry dropping to the bench. But will Roberto see this?

Daveyboy Blue

But these next two weeks will be gone in a flash unless we act now. A new keeper is a definite and with the problems in defence a new CB and RB are needed (especially as the rumours regarding Seamus) refuse to go away. A winger is also something we need to be concentrating on. McGready and Atsu aren't good enough if we are to press on following an abysmal Christmas, despite the last 2 results. Let's act sooner rather than later.

Daveyboy Blue

{Ed025's Note - i would like to think so davey, but i cant see us doing much business in this window mate..
