Rumours on the net Rooney close to agreeing to return to Everton in Summer. £150k a week possibly a free transfer.

Agree3 Disagree1

All I can say is this, if we are prepared to offer 150k per week to a 31 year old striker who's best days are clearly in the rear view mirror, then surely a prime Lukaku ar 23 and scoring 20+ goals must be worth 200k a week, Rooney is finished, we need to look to the future, Barkley and Rom should be the big earners, not a twilight wayne Rooney.

I think there are pros and cons to him coming back tbh.

His name alone, will elevate us as a club. It will make bigger names more inclined to buy into what we are trying to achieve and what direction we are going.

Lukaku has already stated in the past he would love to play with Rooney.

He has also stated of our lack of ambition in the transfer window. Maybe this will go some way to proving him wrong.

If Rooney can discover even half the form he was in a few years back. I would take him all day. If he gets his hunger/ desire back and wants to repay us as fans, he will be responsible (goals/ assists) for at least 20 goals a season minimum.

If the rumours are true that we can get him on a free, i think it is definitely worth the gamble. Clear McGeady, Kone, Jags etc off the wage bill and the 150k won't be as hard to stomach.

There's not many other times you'll get a record England and Manchester United goalscorer on a free transfer (if that is to be believed) so I say enjoy it, he's not in his prime but his skill is undeniable and he's still 100% a first teamer for us. Increased squad depth with Europe potentially on the horizon can't be a bad thing.

You can pay Barkley and Lukaku what they want but if they don't want to sign, then they won't sign, Get the money for both of them and go get a first class striker along with Rooney, remember once a blue always a blue.

Forget about Rooney history etc, but where would he figure in our current set up? Genuine question not after any bites or whatever. Playing one up top, would he play instead if Rom (I don't see it) Would he play just behind instead of Ross. Not for me. That us if course we manage to keep both. Therefore would he be a sub for supposedly 150k a week? I understand his professionalism, experience and other things as well as showing our 'ambition' may help, even his ability would help somewhere but as to signing him as a player, even on a free, I struggle to see where he would feature.

{Ed025's Note - im with you kingo, of course if he were to pull on that blue shirt again he would have my undying support but i feel it is a time to look forward not back mate..

The flip side to that is Rooney might want to play for us.

I honestly thought Rooney was finished, he said he would only ever play for everton fc or man utd. Itching if we come knocking in the summer, he would be here in a flash. he seemed stale at man united for the past couple of seasons.

New lease of life at a club he adores, may get him firing again for maybe two seasons. Id also follow up on other targets. for some reason I'd like us to have a punt on the Cypriot striker.

For me we need TWO quality strikers at least! Especially if we are in the Europa League as well. Lukaku AND Rooney. Rotate. It gives you the option to rest each of them when they need to. Or play them together when it sits. No brainer for me. And IF Lukaku goes then get another TOP striker to replace him AS WELL. A good couple of yrs from Rooney will give Calvert Lewin or whoever we sign time to develop.

Formbyjules. If you play them together, who do you drop then? Just intrigued to see other blues point of view.

He will get goals and regardless of whether lukaku stays or goes we need more goals from our forwards.

Kingo78 - if RK wants them all then that is his decision - he is a far better manager than I. But I would suggest Everton need the very best players they can get and that includes the squad not just the first XI. We are doing that by getting rid of the deadwood and improving the quality of the squad. RK will then find a system to fit them and decided as and when to rest and rotate them.

Rooney's return would increase our chances of signing top class players. He is held in high regard amongst the worlds elite young players. He for me is a great business decision if we can land him. We are more attractive, Plus the derby's will be so much better having lads like Barks Davies Rooney they no how much we want to beat the reds.
