I know there are bargains out their to be had, and you need not always pay mega money to bring in a good player, but some of the "low" budget offering that we are now said to be considering, are little more than 2nd rate jorneymen looking for a big payday at the fag end of their career, of which Ashley Williames is the lateest example, yes he did have a good euros, but at almost 32, and never blessed with great touch or pace, that was the high water mark of his career, and certainly not someone to help take us up to a new level. If we can't get the top line player we want, better to play kids like holgate, whist they will make some mistakes, they can only improve. w.

didnt realise Williams ws that old, 32 next month, plus he is only 6ft, mwhich is relatively small for a centre half, he is a decent player, but maybe someone a bit younger would b a better option.

32 for a centre half is not as old as it is for say, a midfielder. He could very well have 5 good years left in him. He's probably at his peak now. Good time to get him. I'd like to see him come.

It's all about the individual though and how they can adapt! Think Sylvain Distin, 32 when we signed him and I think we had some great performances out of him!
Wouldn't be my first choice but what you do get with Williams is guts and determination gives 100% for 90 minutes! Also a great leader on the pitch.

We need an experienced centre half. Stones and Mori are very young. Putting aside the possibility of them leaving. We also have a large amount of potential centre halves coming through the youths.

If Williams comes Mori will be then old enough when Williams retires to take the senior role. We need a 30ish centre half regardless of who it is for proper balance in that position.

Has Jags left us, I know he is injured but he will come back, then we will have 2 32+ year old centre halves.
