Telegraph saying Marco will be given the nessesary funds for the summer transfer window, let's hope we get a quality Striker in.

After today's showing we need someone who can convert the chances we create, I like DCL but we need a finisher, it's going to be an interesting summer apparently Brands and Silva want a squad of 20 to work with meaning more outs than ins, looking forward to it. Will feel sorry for the Ed's when the season finishes and silly season starts.

{Ed025's Note - its the same every year lee, it will be name after name and a lot of guessing mate...god bless us all.. :)

I agre lee 1878 would love someone like haller from frankfur realistically who do u think we could attract ed02.

{Ed002's Note - The issues will be the lack of European football and what impact does this have on DCL? The likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Michy Batshuayi and Che Adams are available and could be attracted - but all would expect to be starters.}

Personally I would like to get a top striking coach in and over the summer and work with DCL he has everything just needs his finishing to improve, if we can get him scoring 15 next year am happy for him to be r no9 for many years and save to 50 odd mill on some random forward with a great record in Albania.

Would take any of them and start them over DCL. He’s had plenty of starts to show us he can do it, unfortunately whilst his hold up play has been great the fact he’s our striker but can’t score on a regular basis worries me. Everyone saying give him time etc all well and good but this season has clearly highlighted we need an out and out striker. It may well come for DCL, but how much longer can we give him?
Personally think he needs someone playing off him, but then which midfielder would make way for that to happen?
Tricky time ahead for marcel and Marco.

{Ed025's Note - i think you are being a bit harsh on DCL there dan, he is a young guy who is improving all the time and yes he has flaws in his game but i think he has a great future in the game, sharpy was not that great when he started but look how he turned out, yes we need at least one other option up front and im sure that will be addressed in the summer but lets not write off DCL just yet mate..

Ed025 not trying to be harsh regarding DCL would love it if he could be a 15-20 goal a season striker for us.
Everyone on here wants us to succeed and challenge the top 6 as well as going for a cup. However until we have a striker who can get us scoring we’re going to struggle.
We’ve got probably the best left back in the league who’s crossing is fantastic yet no one to get on the end of them. Sigurdsson has played superb this season and has shown his delivery is great but again no one to finish off the chances created. Richarlison and Bernard with great play and delivery into box but again no one to finish them off. Richarlison himself has done well scoring as many as he has but failed when played in the striker role. We’ve got a wealth of attacking threat but not that one final piece of the jigsaw to be converting these chances.
I think there’s something to be said for a natural goal scorer and I just don’t see that being DCL, he’s scored something like 11 in 70 premier league games.
If we want to be challenging we need to get a proven striker in.
Don’t throw DCL in the scrap heap but also don’t pin all our hopes on him being that 15-20 goal striker we want, some of our support of players this season has been atrocious, if we put expectations on DCL and it doesn’t happen the supporters will turn and it could ruin the young lad.

{Ed025's Note - i can see what your saying dan and agree with a lot of it, yes we do need a prolific striker and at the moment that is not DCL, but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water here he can still be a very important part of this squad, we all want the same things mate its just a different opinion of how we go about it dan..

I think are biggest problem is getting rid of so much deadwood, the price of the Walsh era will maybe take a another year to fully put right.

Watched the Palace game again and I am proud of the team. They harassed the opposition when they had the ball, they were sharp when we had the ball, good movement of the players off the ball and generally got stuck in and yet another clean sheet. Obviously the only problem was finishing off the game. I am beginning to warm to Silva, he has got the team playing the type of football we can appreciate with the exception of games like the Fulham and Newcastle ones. Next year should be even better.

As much as I dnt like the term dead wood I agree with u clouds I think we will see a massive improvement in tge squad come 2 more windows after brands can get some big earners off the books and get 2 or 3 quality additions.

It will definitely take a few windows to shift the unwanted players.
I hope we get Europe this season (although doubtful now) as I see next season in the league a bit like this season (transition) .
Europe would give us that extra cash and the extra games to build the style and finalise the squad.
Silva would have to play some of the fringe players and maybe one or two might come good. Look at Schneiderlin, he in most of our eyes was finished 6 months ago. I don't know if I'd be happy if he went now.

Schneiderlin is an anomaly, their is a footballer in there but too often he has gone missing, just wandering around doing very little, and then he has a few good starts. If we keep him he has to become more consistent and more influential. He is not a Gomes.

Just listening to rumours and comments on here does everyone think Mitrovic, Batishuay etc are any better than DCL? As we don’t have European football to offer we need to go break the bank for top players like City did with Robinho etc to raise our profile in attracting other players and to get us into top 6. Even if they don’t care and are only there for the money so what if they do it on the pitch. Athletico I hear are fed up with Costa for me he’s the type of player who would go anywhere for the right money. Just my opinion.

14.) 28 Apr 2019
28 Apr 2019 18:14:12
Also comment about bringing in a forward coach a top experienced striker would do more for DCL than a coach. DCL has improved massively and in 2-3 season if he continues will no doubt be our number 9 but that’s atleast 2 seasons away. Talk of Mitrovic etc for me is a waste and will hinder DCL and what’s he going to learn off a player arguably no better than him atleast DCL gives his all even on a bad day.

28 Apr 2019 20:36:19
Jaybo. We didn't have Europe last season but managed to bring in some quality additions.
What you are suggesting is what Walsh and Koeman did with no success.
Brands will find is some gems.

28 Apr 2019 22:09:37
Right, we have a good striker coach, zouma turning out to be the Man. My question/ statement, with a supposed superior squad we are on course to finish lower than Sam. Brilliant run, lb, lw, rw, sorted need backups. We need a Benitez, to progress.

One of my Sheffield Utd mates commented on great potential of Calvert Lewin but said has the finishing of Devon Loch and that is his biggest hindrance.

Personally there is a player there, for me, we need to do like we did with Sharp, bring in a Gray type player who Calvert can learn from, whether that be Mitrovic, Dzecho or the like who knows, but not rocket science we need a centre forward.

Billscrocodiletears - had me checking the calendar there mate. Thought was April 1st!
You are not actually suggesting that we are worse off than last season?
If you are mate then i have to ask when you last actually went to a game at GP?
The whole ethos of the team / culture has changed.
Last year we stumbled into 8th, based on tying not to lose.
This year, despite a dreadful run over Xmas we have already amassed more points than last year, we have just beaten 3 of the 'sky 6' at home in consec home games having beaten none of them for 2 years, we had 22 shots on Saturday in one away match - FatSam didn't have that in 10 away games!
Yes the squad still needs improvement, yes we have had a couple of off games but it takes time. Players are buying into Marcos culture now and anyone who actually GOES to the game can see and feel that around GP.

Marco is going nowhere.

DCL was only 22 in March. How can anyone judge him yet? It says something that he is keeping Tosun out the team. Give him 2 or 3 years of quality coaching and see what we have then. As for another striker now? Well I think DCL is twice the player he was last season and so expect more improvement by next season.

20.) 29 Apr 2019
29 Apr 2019 20:24:27
Benitez won't progress us.
I like him but after doing some digging during a conversation with a Newcastle fan. I think he plays the game with the media.

Looking at transfermarkt. He's spent 151 million in the 3 seasons he's been there, he finished 10th last season and they're 13th now and mathematically can't match last season. So after spending 50 million this season and after already spending 101 million are they improving?
Nope. The football played is dull.

So you can ask for Benitez all you want but I don't see what he would bring to improve us.

Agree re improvements of DCL
BUT
He is not a goalscorer. Maybe he will learn but I don’t think we can wait 2 years to find out.
He suits certain games when we need to defend and then have a striker who can hold the ball up.
He doesn’t suit games where we need to break down a tight defence.
