Just to confirm that Alcaraz has signed a two year deal with an option of a third on 30k per week and he will wear the number 17 shirt.

Was hoping the '17' would go to Barkley as I believe it would boost his confidence and he has the ability to be as influential as Timmy Cahill was.

Why? Just because Cahill wore it. in that case do we retire the number 9 because of Latchford, 10 for Gray etc (and much further back before my time with the likes of Ball, Harvey, Young. Dean)

Not being funny but if we retire every number of a decent play who leaves or of a legend who passes away we would be into triple figure shirt numbers.

We need to remember the greats sure, but don't you think giving young players their number gives them something to aspire to?

Retiring a shirt don't make me laugh please. It's so stupid and why not give somebody a chance to be the new Tim Cahill or Kanchelskis or whoever instead of wanting the shirt retired for your own selfish reasons. Mike S
