Well I'm all in favour of getting rid od 'Dead Wood' but if I was a seal I'd call it a cull!

Uran. Mushy is only saying it as he and others see it. We have got rid of a lot of players who won't play for us again. it's called dead wood.

I am with Uran on this. We pride ourselves on being a real "club" and as an example I will suggest what we did with Jose Baxter and also with the little Sunderland kid makes us somewhat different to top4 plc or united corporate business teams. I understand what Mushy means of course but we should show a little respect. Players such as Barkley have had a tough time from some fans and I will quote my old point on this whereby Osman was treated terribly by some fans. a one club player who averaged 6 goals a season and never once asked for aa transfer. just did his job when asked to. Hibbert would run through nuclear powerstations never mind walls for Everton Football CLUB! So yes I agree we should all show a little respect to players who are leaving us. We should wish them well and hope they go on to have successful careers as long as they do us no damage in games. When you look at some of the mercenaries around. eg Payet and the likes. our loyal players tend to keep quiet and do their jobs. we should respect themfor that.

I don't think it is being disrespectful, it's just a term used within football to describe disposable players, the ones that are not going to feature under the new manager. Nothing to get het up by really.
Degsy, on the subject of Payet, I wouldn't call him a mercenary tbh. He has rejoined an inferior league for less wages because he wants to be happy with his family. The press have twisted the story and people have jumped on the bandwagon. Now if he had joined a Chinese club then I could agree he was doing it for the cash but he actually had to pay back half a million in wages just to push through the move.

Like I said. although other clubs and the media use the term "dead wood". we are Everton and I hope we use the term ex-player. I would love to see any one of you say to Big Dunc that he was no longer needed because he is dead wood. Point made?

A lot of wages on players who love the treatment room. Gibson got paid about a hundred grand per minute played and contract extensions. Fair play to the lot of em, but definitely deadwood.

We'll have to agree to disagree Degs, I don't think it is meant in a disrespectful way and, as I said, it's a general football term. In addition, Gibson played around 60 games in total over 4 years so, in his case, the term is more than acceptable. I'm respectful to our ex players but I have no problem using such a term.
