The guy hasn't even been appointed and is already being criticised. Does nobody think about context? People like Dyche, Howe and Silva run down because they've not win anything with Burnley, Bournemouth and Hull! No manager would win anything with those clubs. The exception, if you remember, was Martinez! What happened to looking for potential, having patience, giving the new man (if there is one) a chance to build something. Between us and West Ham and Arsenal fans, Fonseca must be itching to leave Shaktar.

Would be nice to have a manager with a track record of winning things, rather than another one with a track record of being relegated!

For all those saying what has Silva ever done, look at the guy's record. Estoril: 10th in the 2nd division when he took over, 4th in the 1st division when he left; Sporting Lisbon: won their first trophy in 7 years in his one season with them; Olympiacos: won the league by February, earlier than any club ever had, and with a record points difference; Hull: bottom of the league when he took over, beat Man U and Liverpool and only relegated by 1 point; Watford: finished 17th before he joined, 5th when Everton approached - their highest league position since 1987 and still 10th when they sacked him, dropped a further 4 places after he went. The guy improves clubs' league positions and plays decent football. He works with players and builds their confidence. I never wanted Martinez, Koeman or Allardyce (read my posts) but Silva is a good fit for us.

{Ed025's Note - i like your way of thinking coyb..

Those are very positive stats coyb. Whilst improving us won’t be all that hard for anyone right now, I am looking forward to an improved style of play. If Silva can sort that then I’m happy to get 100% behind him. I just want us to start showing something that matches the level of investment that’s been put into the team.

Better not bitter.

I have to say that in terms of tactics Silva is better than the likes of Dyche, Howe, and others being banded about. Be honest given where we are, we are not going to get a highly successful CL or EL manager, but what we will get is a man with good tactical knowledge of the game. We should not judge him on what he did at clubs with less spending power than us, although given what he had at his disposal, I think he did well. If we get him then I will back him. The problem is will the board? It is they who seem to cause the problems. Get him in, give him his chance, back him with a bloody good DOF, improve the squad, and let him go get us some success.
