I just read that Silva is trying to offload £35k a week Cuco Martina. Based on that figure, I have to be worth about £2k a week. After all, I am only 62 and one of my knees is ok!

{Ed001's Note - I am sure you are still just as good as he was.}

I couldn't believe that figure though Ed. £35k. Is that really what he is on? He was released by Southampton and had no contract with anyone. Why did we offer him such a deal? Even if he was brilliant it is a ridiculous figure. As it happens he is like you say quite limited in ability and I do believe our terrible run under Allergy and thereafter was associated with our very weak defence at the time. Many of the goals we conceded came directly through his part of the pitch. We were conceding an average of 2 a game and no wonder we didn't win many!

{Ed001's Note - because he was a free agent and you had no transfer fee to pay, the salary was higher. That is why so many players run down their contracts.}

To be fair to Martina when he played he looked like he was always trying his best.

Agree with that sa90. That’s why I don’t really have a problem with him, but I do have a major problem with those responsible for signing him.

Plus he played mainly in the wrong position at left back and had Ashley Williams alongside him. No wonder he struggled.

If I played for Everton - it would look like I was trying my best. Still doesn't mean I’m not 💩.
Trying your best should be a given for a professional footballer.

Fair play to him though - we gave him the contact so we can have no complaints.

Think we need to move on from players who “try their best” thar is simply not good enough if you want to aspire to be a top four team.

Martina is a right back, he played every game for Everton as a left back, with Williams inside him.

I thought he did OK playing out of position, would have been interesting seeing him playing at right back at some point, but you cannot blame guy for where he was stuck in the team.

Put Leighton Baines as right back and see if he is as effective.

I completely agree that we just can’t be satisfied with hard work. We must demand that as a minimum. We need winners. The type that don’t accept losing. The ones that are considered unpopular because they react badly to losing. The ones that say “show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser”.

We must fill our squad with hard workers who take losing that bad that they can’t face the cameras. We need players like Roy Keane on the pitch but keep him well clear of the media. Look at Neville Southall. He hated losing and even when the team was struggling or unfancied, he still managed to win us silverware. If we had 11 of him we would walk the league.

Rant over.

Well we wouldn’t concede many goals anyway. 😂.

{Ed025's Note - we certainly would,nt these days woburn...he would fill 95% of the goal with body mass mate.. :)
