Remember all those times when Ed02 was being grouchy and rude saying we could only sign Lukaku if Barkley was part of the deal. good times

AJ

{Ed002's Note - Or the club spend more than it can easily afford on the player?}

1.) They will get it back in spades in 5 years though eh Ed002 as his sell on fee is money in the bank

2.) I suppose not easily but it looks like we afforded him after all. I think the club should still have some money left after henen and rom sign later though.

3.) I don't remember you saying it was Barkley OR us paying more than we could afford ed02. You've said all along it was Barkley or nothing. Maybe it is more than we can afford but this is finally everton making a statement to everyone that we've got ambition and we want to move forward and I for one am absoloutley delighted. After years of making do we're no longer happy to make the numbers up. There's no guarantees in football but at last we're having a bloody good go!

{Ed002's Note - Nobody cares about statements and Everton offered more than any other club for the player - significantly more.}

4.) 30 Jul 2014 18:07:26
Ed 002, you sound very bitter.

Look, you got it wrong. Now get back up, dust yourself down and start again.

I don't like pointing out correction but when it's as astronomical as this then us Blues will have our fun

WHOOOOOOOP!!!!!!

COYB

{Ed002's Note - I sure as hell don't mind getting something wrong and what would I be bitter about? I explained 6 months ago Chelsea were seriously pissed at the player and wanted him sold. Try not to be an embarrassment. Nobody else was prepared to pay anything like the offer made by Everton.}

5.) Dont forget we had quite a bit left over from the Fellaini, Anichebe, Jelavic deals. We only spent £14M on McCarthy and a bit on loan deals.

That leaves approx £25M if you think about it.

It was Bobbys plan all along! COYB!

L'Equipe say Traore is expected to stay at Monaco next season. Worth noting he's been taken off the player profiles section on evertonfc.com, after having been left on after Barry, Deulofeu and Lukaku. Shame, injuries have ruined this season, and has a good goalscoring record wherever - Martinez liked him too. We will need at least 2 strikers now, any news Ed, or will we be doing our deals post World Cup?

AJ

{Ed025's Note - its looking that way AJ..

Jelavic bid accepted, from Hull City. Set for personal terms talks. Fee meant to be just over £5mil, club say undisclosed. Who to come in do you think Ed, if anyone?

AJ

{Ed025's Note - Mcgeady and ince look possibles AJ..

1.) Surely he won't sell Jelavic and not replace him. If Lukaku gets injured we're woefully short. He has to bring someone in as back up

2.) Hmm don't want two wingers get one of them
Then get a striker can't rely on just lukaku!

3.) 7.1/2 mil for jelivic

4.) Maybe rm is thinking if playin mirallas up front more. just a thought

5.) Whilst I wouldn't be overly disappointed with McGready and or Ince, I'm hoping Roberto has an ace up his sleeve that no one has mentioned.

6.) I wouldn't be surprised if rm starts to play mirallas up top with lukaku. isn't that where he played with olympiacos?

Martinez was at Dundee United today, presumably to scout Souttar/Robertson/Gauld. Tom Ince is supposedly meeting both Laudrup and Martinez this week. Heitinga will leave this transfer window for little to no cost, Jelavic will likely stay unless a good offer comes in for him and he wants to move, which is fairly unlikely. I'm hearing that Barkley and Distin are both signing/have signed new deals, no deal with Baines as of yet.

AJ

1.) These are just rumours btw, what people are saying, I'm not itk

2.) Gauld himself has said the premiership wouldn't suit him, would like to play in Spain, i'd imagine that Martinez was looking at Soutar the centre half.Looks a good player has some good experience already, Robertson is a lb so don't see him as a necessity.

Just a bit on Cleverley: I remember I think it was 11-12 season when United were midway through the season and not doing too well, and everyone was putting it down to Cleverley's injury and his absence. This was understandable, because not too long ago he was considered a very bright prospect. Having had a great season as a youngster in the championship on loan at Watford (where he won their senior player of the season), he joined Wigan on loan under Roberto Martinez, where he flourished as an attacking player. Now we know since then he's been converted into a deeper player, fairly unsuccessfully, and I'm not saying everyone should run through Liverpool if we sign him, but we really should know better than to write off players because they're not fancied at other clubs. Howard, Barry, Pienaar, Gibson spring to mind. With Europa League games now we're desperately short in midfield depth with only McCarthy, a 33yr old and an incredibly injury prone player to share the load. Proven under Martinez, with Champions League experience, a dozen England caps, in the last year of his contract so cheap, Cleverley makes sense - and there's no need to worry if we sign him.

AJ

Oh yes there is

2.) 10 Jul 2014 16:20:59
to be fair swan I don't think you'd be happy with us signing anyone it seems

3.) If we sign him il eat my season ticket and as its plastic its no mean feet

I'm still happy with the way we have started this season. Sure, poor result today, but away at the best team in the league, with arguably our most important (yes really) player in Gareth Barry ineligible, plus Pienaar and Gibson injured (I know he came on second half) and I think Mirallas unift too. Coupled with the fact there was a truly dreadful refereeing display wholly against us, and the way we played in the first half, and I don't think today was too bad, considering it was Yaya Toure vs Leon Osman. Overall, after a very brief relatively adjustment period, since then in the league we've beaten Chelsea, West Ham away, and Newcastle (3 games we got 4 points from last season, but 9 this) and we lost today. Sure, we need to start playing over 90 mins rather than 45, but that will come. I think Lukaku is still far from match fit, but considering that he's already got 4 in 3.5 games, I can't wait till he is. So let's stay positive, and use a helpful international break to get Pienaar, Mirallas, Gibson back fit, and we can smash Hull at home with the team today but with Barry/Gibson for Osman and Pienaar for Naismith. (Also, one more positive, I thought McCarthy was by far our best player today, and was great in midweek too). Onwards and upwards COYB

AJ

1.) Im with you on this AJ let's face it we have started well with a lot of new faces and teh boys need time to settle into playing the RM way. If we are still struggling with inconsistency in December then we may have something to worry about, but at the moment I am quite pleased with the majority of the changes RM has made to the team. Are people really calling for Martinez's head after that? I was there, and truthfully, we were poor. We miss Gibson, badly, and a couple of players were dreadful. But seriously? Biffy, you asked if we could remember such a bad first home game? Let's just go back 2 seasons, first home game of the season, we lost 1-0 to QPR, with Tommy Smith scoring the only goal. We are changing our style of play, despite not adding any players to the starting XI at the moment. Even though we didn't play well today, we still did enough to warrant a win against a very solid defensive unit. Of course we have issues, but maybe that's not down to the manager. Besides, it's not like we always played fantastically at home last year - Everton 1-1 Norwich, Everton 0-0 Swansea, Everton 2-2 Newcastle, Everton 3-3 Aston Villa. I'm not saying you've got to think Martinez is perfect, but at the very least give him a good amount of time to change your mind, and don't embarrass the rest of us by calling for his head, we're better than that.

AJ

1.) Good response AJ I agree you totally

What position does Pablo Piatti play? Could he add to the first XI?

AJ

I bet every single one of you thought Martinez was the best thing since sliced bread as recently as 2014. He deserves a summer and a new season without the constraints of the Europa League to turn things round, if he doesn't have funds to buy good players, it's not him the fans should criticise.

Ed why would a deal have to involve Barkley? With Costa signing for 32mil Mourinho evidently doesn't want Lukaku as a 1st choice striker, realistically Everton are not in direct competition with Chelsea, presumably he has a value, if Everton can pay that - which they should be able to given increase in revenue and profit in previous transfer windows - what makes them different from anyone else so they have to involve a part exchange?

AJ

{Ed002's Note - Some months ago Lukaku did something which resulted in taking the immediate decision to sell him this summer. They may not have made that decision public, but I have explained since that day that the club intends to move him on. In his defence, his player liaison guy has worked very hard to get Chelsea to give him a second chance, so far to no avail. Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Roma and Spurs. Shakhtar, Zenit and Everton are interested but not viable options. I suspect the Borussia Dortmund interest has gone. Liverpool has shown no interest to date. The only chance that Everton would have would be to include Barkley in negotiations - as Chelsea has an interest in the player. It is not going to happen.}

Watch Everton 3-0 Arsenal and tell me Naismith isn't up to it. I agree on the others mostly though (think McGeady could be a decent rotation player)

How much you're rumoured to be doing in the papers means nothing, they know nothing. Remember how many times Baines joined United last summer?

Even if he does go to the MLS it does not mean money was his main motivator. It's a very glamorous lifestyle, it's underrated as a league, and he'd be going to play with David Villa and Frank Lampard. His family may want it, as it happens I'm confident he'll sign a 1yr contract with us

Roberto has said he thinks January is a bad time to spend as you don't get a good value for players before, I think we'll spend 7-12mil, but that's a complete guess of course
