Alright lads, I've not managed to catch much of pre season until i'm at the blackburn game on Thursday has anyone noticed a style of play silva is trying to achieve or a difference in tactics from last year yet? Cheers boys!

Hi Alex, there myself on Thursday friend! From what I’ve seen - 3 matches it’s more what he has at his disposal so far, they are ‘trying’ the high press, ‘trying’ transition from back to front quick (I like all that) but imo we don’t have enough players to make it work (YET) . Heard the saying asking a joiner to fix a leak?, Horses for Courses. think you will get me.

We can all see what Silva wants from the players and it looks like they've got more energy and running in them from last season.
But your right Blu1 its what's at his disposal juat watched the Porto game and got to say MOTM was probably Sandro and I think he's had the most mins than any one so far pre season, as Silva says on his interview today he has a lot to do before the first game of the season.

Heard Sandro had a good first half which is encouraging! Saw him last pre season and he seems a big confidence player for me! Happy about the high press too hopefully with a few new faces to fit the system we’ll have some good football to watch this year! Cheers lads!

Got to say Alex1990 think this rumour has everyone excited, I woke up to the news this morning and thought wow what a signing if we could pull that off.
But until I see the player in the blue shirt at FF then nothing is certain.

Look like a good deal if we coulda get him over the last one which will be difficult knowing champions leagues sides are watching him. ON the other hand they might be unsure and want to see how he adapts to the prem and may be prepared to pay a higher price in two years time when he was proved himself!

Just on my way back from Blackburn. The side in the first half bar sigi won’t be anywhere near our first team they were all awful sadly. Second half our first choice side seemed sharper. Richarlison was by a country mile the best player on the pitch. Two footed, good in the air, works hard and has creativity. Looks quality.

Evenings Eds just a quick question not sure if anyone can help? I fully understand trimming the squad size and have listened to Silvas interviews recently. Was last summers spending seen as a one off? Is it a bit more like selling to raise funds or are we just trying not to spend over the odds on players like last summer? Suppose i'm asking do we have the cash or is it being invested in the stadium?

Finance is not the issue here, it’s about getting value for our money, and what we spent last year we have not seen any return, Tosun I believe was value and providing we can give him the service he needs, he will score goals, I think he has potential to hit 20+ but that will depend on who is supporting him.

Cheers Metz for the answer rather than just insulting the question! I’m a big fan on Cenk and believe with the right service he could easily bag 15-20. Still not 100% certain Sigi is the man to do that yet! Fingers crossed we see the best of him this year!

Hi Ed i’m aware our priority has been getting rid of the deadwood this window and plenty of defensive players being thrown about on different sites, are you aware of any concrete interest in any attacking midfielders or wingers? I heard loftus cheek before the WC and was wondering if we were looking to add more goals to our midfield! Cheers and thanks for all the good work!

Thank you again Ed002. I really don't understand the lack of repect to Everton players and footballers in general. Especially players who are local and have spent their whole careers at one club who were previously supporters too. Then they are called deadwood or to be got rid of. like a pest or infection with antibiotics!

There is always an evolution and players will be moved on for whatever reason but it is disrespectful to refer to these players as “deadwoodâ€
If these so mentioned deadwood remain you will seriously demotivate them

Ok so risk getting banned here but, deadwood is not really a word i'd use but with the meaning of it being 'a person or thing no longer useful'
in relation to the manager or club I am guessing it is used.
Why is it such an offensive term?
I assume the players are not useful to club or manager because of playing style/ effort/ formation or place overloading, and are therefore moved on.
Am I misunderstanding the terminology of how the word is used?

The players need the support of fans and if the fans get the reputation of not supporting the players then it will be harder to persuade players to join. Or you just go down the road of demonstrating the fans are knuckledragging morons - and that works as well.}

It does fit the dictionaey defintion without offense but it more of the connotations the word carries as it is negative and disrespectful. Plus some 'deadwood' have contributed to the sqaud so is very ungrateful and is disrespetful. Ie. James mc, I would sell but loved having him here. doesn't take much effort to say the players not needed, or fringe players etc. But some people may not realise the effect to what they are saying. Personally I would like the terminology to not be used aswell. Williams has been shocking but he has tried and his performences I believe will have been painful to him and therefore deserves more than being called deadwood, although he should be nowhere near the squad this season due to his level of performences. Been a servant to Swansea, just didn't work out. Its flippent as well.

Just saw the reply. I apologise i wasn’t meaning to cause offence with the deadwood remark and take it back. I was just acknowledging that we’re letting players go at the minute and was trying to find out if you knew anything about targets? Once again apologies ed002 you do a great job.

Id hate to see him go Eddy i think majority of blues see his potential. However you're absolutely right. If he wants to go its best we sell. This year its so important we have a unified dressing room.

Ideal wishlist would be richarlison, mina, tierney and rbl for me. A box to box midfielder is a must looking at last year we really struggled through the middle as mirgan and davies were both poor and gueye whilst he does a great defensive job doesn't really turn it into attack. Who we’ll end up with is anyones guess though!
