Disappointing yes, but Rome wasn't built in a day. This season we are a better team, so expectations are very high. The fact we expect or hope to get results against teams in the Top 6 is a good thing. What I'm pleased about is Marco Silva is a thinking man's coach, taking notes. His changes always seem to work, so his analysis of the current game at hand, means he knows what he is doing.

Brands has been at the club for 5 minutes and has brought in world class players, to improve our team. I'm certain he has identified players we need. Media wouldn't have a clue. Moshiri is very astute in regards in business. A new stadium on the horizon and who knows what Usmanov is thinking. As an Evertonian our club is on the rise and lots of positive things are happening all for the good. Chin up all Evertonians, good times are sooner rather than later! COYB forever and ever.

I think the key is patience. We are attempting to go as fast as possible without putting ourselves in jeopardy but even to move with relative caution it costs a lot more for players for any Club in the Premiership for obvious reasons add into that rumours of owners financial clout and Clubs will find it harder for bargains.

We are in serious trouble. Our last three games combined. Everton 32 shots for 4 on target, opposition 52 shots for for 21 on target. 8 goals to Nil. Defending is shot, midfield is shot, and poor old Sandro and Dominic can't get into the game. We could have Messi up front and we would still. be putrid. No pace, no creativity, no game plan, no nothing. Did we just buy the Swansea sigurddson or the Tottenham one.

1.) 14 Sep 2017 22:10:35
koeman is a flawed tactician there can be no doubt, he plays att formations when he should be more balanced and tinkers too much when he should play to his / players strengths. more over he makes the same mistakes in formations and personal week in week out. however let's be honest he isn't telling those players go out and sit deep and just let teams attack you. (well i hope not) this is the fault of the players not having a clear leader on the pitch and not having the drive or inspiration to make things happen. we are playing formations for whatever reason that our current squad can't play. so koeman needs to address that and quick and those players need to have a word with themselves cause it is just not good enough. don't think koemans job is under threat just yet.

{Ed025's Note - the play is far too slow floats and a lot of that seems to revolve around rooney, the sideways passing, then back, then a corner for us that ends up back to our keeper its dire to watch, im not blaming it all on wayne but united played like that last season, im not looking for a scapegoat here just looking for a reason why we are so poor mate..

2.) 15 Sep 2017 06:16:19
Maybe Wayne's problem with sideways passing is because he likes a bit on the side. I'll get my coat haha.

3.) 15 Sep 2017 00:36:09
Nail. Head. 025. Rooney is the reason I stopped watching England for that exact reason.

{Ed025's Note - its not just wayne though benny, there is no one grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck and we dont seem to have a leader, the players are just going through the motions and its up to koeman to get it sorted or we will have to find someone who will mate..

4.) 15 Sep 2017 08:54:34
There are good players there, RK simply needs to acknowledge that he can't play all his favourite individuals. Williams not good enough imo and should be dropped for jags or bring browning back. Kenny deserves a chance. Lookman and davies need a crack imo and I'd go 4-4-2 with Calvert- lewin along side Rooney or dare I say niasse or mirrallas. The benefit of playing Rooney imo is that he could drop back into midfield if necessary if we needed to shore up. plus he works harder than mirrallas and I think has more savvy than both other options. Where do we stand on bringing players like browning or dowell back?

{Ed025's Note - im not sure jcl but they are not the answer anyway, we can all see the problems which is all the players are too similar, we have a plethora of No 10,s who all have limited pace and no target man to hit, our defence is very static and lacks not only confidence but leadership and it leaves us with a scenario of a team who are shipping goals and not creating chances, the most worrying aspect for me is the lack of passion and how we are second best in challenges and koeman needs to step up to the plate, dropping rooney and schneiderlin would be a start as they tend to slow the play more than most imo but im sure other posters will have there own ideas on how to fix things mate..

5.) 15 Sep 2017 09:20:16
Ed, I agree with mist, simply trying to think of alternatives with squad available. for example this weekend I'd play 4-4-2. Starting at top, I'd play Calvert-lewin and Rooney ( purely because mirrallas never tracks back, and niasse would get slated if we got battered. wouldn't be fair to him) . In midfield I'd go with Gana and sigurdson with lookman and mirallas on flanks. Back four would be baines jags, Keane and Kenny (baptism of fire)

6.) 15 Sep 2017 10:09:49
We say no leadership and yet we have Man U and Englands captain, wales captain, Ajax captain as well as our own captain. So leadership is not something we should be lacking - but unfortunately, just like motivation, we are.
We need an injection of pace somewhere and last night, with Holgate and Baines we had zero forward movement. Even Baines has lost that ability to pass players and get crosses in - we constantly take easy option.

For me, and being a little radical because something different is clearly required, I would go 3-5-2

Baines, Keane, Holgate
Cuco, Davies, Gueye, Kenny
Sig
DCL. Sandro or Rooney

Bit more pace at back. Jags and Williams make everyone nervous so let Keane take responsibility. Baines not got the pace to get past people anymore but gives us balance with a left foot

And most of all we may get some enthusiasm

It won't happen, but,

7.) 15 Sep 2017 20:16:31
I don't get this obsession with 2 holding midfielders either, I'm sure Gueye is good enough to handle the role on his own. We could then play Sigurdsson/ Klassen/ Davies in a deep playmaking role, driving through the middle, with Rooney/ Sigurdsson behind the striker, then Lookman or Bolasie (on his return) on the left and Vlasic/ Mirallas on the right providing pace on the wings. Schneiderlin could rotate with Gueye. Can't be any worse than the last 2 games. We've shopped 6 goals in 2 games so it's not like the defence is any better with 2 midfielders in front of them.

8.) 15 Sep 2017 22:31:35
Spot on gibbons. I think I'm there or there abouts with you on my selection. I think Gana is man for holding role along side sigurdson. and lookman HAS to be given a crack!

9.) 16 Sep 2017 01:29:22
Bad team that dave.

10.) 16 Sep 2017 08:48:02
Wouldn't disagree Dunc. Problem is we have tried virtually everything else and nothing works.
Trying to be positive, when we get Yannick, Mori and Seamus back maybe we have a 'first 11' because that is what we desperately need - some stability, a formation that suits US and not changing every week because of who we play. Let them worry about us

So once the three are back;

Pickford
Seamus Keane Mori Baines
Gueye
Vlasic. Sig. Bolasie
Ramirez. Rooney or DCL

Bench of Lookman, Holgate, Schneiderlin, klaasen, Niasse, Davies.

11.) 17 Sep 2017 01:29:04
We are missing a centre forward and 2 fast wingers yannicks not back till January, I'm afraid we will be mid table at best by then we are to mobile no1 from midfield runs at the opposition and creates chances we need Ross if you ask me.

12.) 17 Sep 2017 11:07:55
Koeman's insistance on Rooney must play causes problems. Rooney playing means other major signings are out of position. Siguurdson needs to play through the middle. My Team would be G/ K not bothered who, Holgate, Keane, Jags/ Williams (Funes when fit)
Kenny RWB, Baines LWB (need a replacement badly) , Gana, Mirralas Siguurdson Lookman, Sandro/ CLW/ Klaason.

Is Martinez in place to ruin us or what. Who was at the game the other night against Young Boys and saw Gibson and his decisive incisive passing resulting in us being a winning Team. So what does Martinez do, takes Gibson out brings a lad out of form in Ross Barkley. To Martinez possession and pretty football is everything. Bill has left it far to late to do anything about it now but if by luck and a couple of sides worse than us we manage to stay up then I hope Bill does something about him.

2.) 01 Mar 2015 17:06:52

Have we heard anything about the New Stadium or was that just pie in the sky!

Aussie Toffee

1.) There will be a period of consultation with residents to let them air concerns. No actual plans have been made public yet. In the meantime the club need to prove that they can finance it. Very early still i'm afraid.

{Ed001's Note - it is certainly not pie in the sky, Kenwright is very sure that he has the financial backing in place to make it reality. That is why this step has been taken. He has been trying to secure the finances for years, and has only made steps when they have been in place, such as the Kirkby debacle. He would never have even begun consultation without the finances being there for that proposed stadium, and he wouldn't now either.}

2.) So ed does that mean you no were the investment is comin from

{Ed001's Note - no, sorry, not who. Though I am told it was in big part due to Elstone.}

3.) Think its about time he brought somethin to the table

I don't comment here as much as I used to, but I had to today. When we last won at Anfield I was a bodybuilder with longhair, thinking I was man power. 22 years later I'm over weight, bald, eyesight shot, but the love and passion I have for the mighty toffees will never wane. This morning I was screaming at 4.30am and in tears. I'm sure many of us are feeling like the albatross has been removed. Now for a bloody trophy, but beating the Reds is a start. Go the Mighty Everton.

{Ed0666's Note - Brilliant Aussie love it mate. Just think what you’ll look like 22 years from now. Enjoy you’re celebrations mate you deserved to party.

Thank you Everton for playing the football you are playing. I'm in Melbourne and it's the most depressing place in the world atm as we have the most harshest lockdowns In the world. All I want now is Everton to Beat the Gunners, Chelsea and Liverpool away and finish in the top 4 and it will be the best year ever! c'mon you Blues.

Aussie Toffee

1.) 21 Sep 2020 17:26:06
Feel for you Aussie. I've got a few good friends over there and they are hating it and one has already lost her job. There was plenty of help here but by the sounds of it they didn't get the same under lockdown.

At least the blues are not letting us down unlike these governments.

24 Jun 2020 21:57:18
Great 3 points to tonight. Did anyone think Moise Kean was looking shot after about 15 minutes on the pitch, or am I just being harsh?

Aussie Toffee

1.) 24 Jun 2020 22:36:33
His tracking back and pressing the defence certainly doesn't look like his strong point.

2.) 24 Jun 2020 22:45:34
After 5mins saw him breathing hard. Had to double take it wasnt Iwobi.

3.) 25 Jun 2020 03:25:10
What is this nonsense? I think you just want to slate him for the sake of it!
He came on, looked lively and showed glimpses of skill and attacking threat.
5 mins in and breathing hard - rubbish!
Lack of tracking back - i saw him in our box defending, one was an error running the ball out which Gordon recaptured, pass back to Kean who then showed some very impressive skill to beat 2 men and get the ball forward.
For such a small amount of game time, he did ok.

4.) 25 Jun 2020 13:39:41
Yeah, I think it might be a bit harsh, AT. He looked lively when running at their defence but not so much when defending our own box. I'd like to see him in the striker role so that he's got less defensive duties to think about, see if he can play up top with either DCL or Richarlison. We all need to remember that games are coming thick and fast and not all players will be up to speed due to the long lay-off. They may be fit in the general sense but match sharpness will take a few games to get rid of the rust.
The season is a washout for us, in my opinion, although there is a slim chance of European football for next year, so I'd be happy for Carlo to use the coming games to blood some of our better youth players and to get the players familiar with formations and tactics etc. If we buy, and sell, right in the summer it will be good to see us kick on next season. So glad to have a manager of his calibre.

5.) 25 Jun 2020 15:33:36
I'd like to see rich back on the left and DCl upfront with Keane. I think Richarlison is so good on the left. And I'd really like to see Keane given a few games. Not much to play for. Like others have said blood the youth.

6.) 25 Jun 2020 21:28:55
I have to say I saw him with his hands on his knees not long in and thought the same. Breathing hard too. Either he's not fit enough or has a bit of something. Its not rubbish, watch it back its there to see.

7.) 26 Jun 2020 19:18:02
keane young lad who is probably homesick and at the moment no Premier league in him. If anyone can bring him good surely it has to be Carlo.

05 Jan 2020 22:35:37
I would like to ask the question. Are their any Under 23 midfielders at the club, that haven't been given a chance to show what they have. Because our Midfield is rubbish. Delph Davies Sigs and Sneiderlan are really not up to it. Or maybe promoting a centre back and Mason Holgate in Midfield.

Aussie Toffee

1.) 06 Jan 2020 08:28:51
We have some really good talent in our youth systems below the first team but never get the given the opportunity to show their worth, Shame.

2.) 06 Jan 2020 09:49:24
What does it matter if we do?
For some reason Schneiderlin and Sigurdson still get picked - we could have the next Messi, ronaldo or iniesta in the under 23s but they won’t get a chance.
Not sure how Sigurdson and Schneiderlin do it but to get 4 managers to pick them is baffling.
I’m hoping Ancellotti will break this cycle and will realise how bad they are and stop picking them.

3.) 06 Jan 2020 12:10:28
adeniran beni been training with the first for aslong as i can remember now, same with gibson and feeney at cb when will we see any of them? if we havnt seen any of them already when we're on the bones of our bottoms are they good enough anyway?

4.) 06 Jan 2020 13:14:14
That's the age old argument, wblue, if they have been exposed to first team training but not getting any time on the pitch then are they ready? Reserve team football has changed so much in the premier league era, from what I've seen it is nowhere near the standard it used to be. It certainly doesn't give us an idea of if a player will be able to step up to the first team. I want to see some of them make the first team squad but only if the management believe that they will cope in that environment, no point bringing players from the developement squad if they can't hold their own, it will only stifle their progress in the long run.

5.) 06 Jan 2020 13:27:31
As if the last 3 managers haven't spelt this out for us yet. luckily fans don't pick the 1st 11.

I think it's safe to assume that we don't have a mini Messi or Ronaldo sat in our youth ranks. We have a brilliant u23s setup, one to be proud of.
The way to play the kids like has been demanded above is to be winning. Most of the time, so that we can introduce kids into a winning team. Into a team that is fighting in all comps and due to congestion (direct result of success) needs must at times.

Not looking at the European and World champions wondering why our club isn't healthy enough to play the kids. Madness.

The best news from last night was that. CARLO stated he hadn't been on the training pitches yet. Think this week will be good for that. Still some players can turn this around.
But like it or not, we must spend and bigger than ever this summer. Or we will never make a dent on the top 6.

6.) 06 Jan 2020 14:42:26
The problem at the training ground must be deep routed. If we can’t produce youngsters better than the lot that played against Liverpool’s youth team on Sunday Then it’s not worth having a youth system at Everton.

{Ed025's Note - your right uran mate..

7.) 06 Jan 2020 15:21:59
Antony Evans, gets on the bench now and again. Never gets a game.

8.) 06 Jan 2020 15:33:20
where has carlo stated this? considering everton plaster images of him on the training field barking instructions i feel its highly unlikely.

9.) 06 Jan 2020 18:21:29
Now CA will be able to see all players in training rather than rely on others opinions we might see some of u23s promoted CB, CM, and RM.

Possibly play Delph/ Baines LB and Digne LW like Coleman and Sidibe.

10.) 06 Jan 2020 20:52:57
I thought Beni looked good when I have seen him. Surely he is worth a pop. Probably better playing with 9 men than having Sigurdson and Sneiderlin.

{Ed025's Note - last i heard he was injured BT, but i have not heard an update..

11.) 07 Jan 2020 11:57:57
beni is injured yes, a shout for it could have been markelo who is regarded highly at the club, however never gets a look in and didn't even get minutes out in tanzania for the friendlies in summer.

21 Dec 2019 23:45:21
What I love about this appointment of Carlo Ancelotti is

a) working with top class footballers throughout his career, many of our players will be moved on. I think the only survivors from our squad will be Pickford, Mina, Sidibe, Holgate, Digne, Gomes, Bernard, Richarlson, Calvert Lewin, Moise Kean and Gbamin.

B) Because Ancelotti has played and won so many titles etc, he knows what players he will want to bring in, to play his style of football.

C) Because the manager is Ancelotti, players will come to play for Ancelotti, therefore there won't be this stigma of signing for Everton if you are a big name player.

D) . We have an owner who will do anything to get this club where we belong and that's in Europe and winning Trophies.

E) Ancelotti could literally make himself a legend if he can get this club back where it belongs winning trophies. And not just among us Long suffering Evertonians, but the stature of the man throughout the world would be immense.

Only looking up.

Cmon you Blues.

That BJU is one of the best pieces I have read in a long time. Brands and Silva seems to have vanquished the negativity that Koeman and Big Sam embellished upon us and we are seeing now the fruits of their philosophy. 2 games and the change in the mood and our play is in stark contrast to the garbage and dribble we have been dealt with for the last couple of seasons.
