Hi Ed (and everyone else).

Can't help thinking about the Funes Mori deal and price we paid in the end. It was reported to be 5.5mil right from the start from good sources. Then it took a long time to get his international clearance, seemingly with some difficulty before he signed for 9.5mil.

Every article and post Everton have made about him they always mention the price which is very rare, with us especially its always 'undisclosed' or if not very rarely mentioned. I know that the fees have something to do with the international clearance, does anyone know the finer details because I'm thinking we've made a deal to say that we've paid 9.5 but I'm not so certain that's right - thinking it might have been to get the clearance over the line and all parties were just on board.

Obviously not important now but thought it was interesting. Thoughts?

{Ed002's Note - No transfer fees are "undisclosed" as they have to be registered, in Euros, with UEFA.

The fee registered was €12.9M.

It might be an apt time to explain again about the cost of transfers (excluding wages). What is paid by the buying club would typically include:

(a) Transfer fee - the big number - in this case €12.9M (about £9.5M).
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the EPL.
(c) Tax due on the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool have spent £40M plus VAT on agent fees over the past three years leading to this window).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (sometimes waived).

I read somewhere that the original transfer fee was about 6.25M pounds but Mori had a clause in his contract in which he was entitled to 50% of the transfer fee which would take it up to the 9.5M pounds. If true that would take care of the (h) signing on fee above. It might have been added on to the original transfer fee to help with the case for special recognition for his work permit?

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not true.}

OK Thanks!

Cheers for the break down ed002, no wonder our board try not to spend too much cash in the windows, bit complicated and expensive to sign a player these days!

4.) 07 Sep 2015 15:40:03
Exactly spudv. Too many people giving out bout the board when they don't have a clue about the ins and outs of running a football club. Even more of a reason to PRAISE Kenwright and Martinez for not selling. Good business done on the transfer front imo. Holding on the players we have and trying to improve them is the only way Everton can possibly compete.

Lennon, Clev and Del boy were got at good value imo. Not sure about Mori because I haven't seen him play. Hopefully he'll adapt well and turn out to be a good asset. Time will tell. As for Holgate, Henan and Rodriguez hopefully they develop with time and reach their potential.

Okay so here's what I think we need to bring in before the season and some potential players/ types. I know it's impossible to guess who is coming in etc. but it's interesting to see what everyone else thinks we need as well. We're going to need 3-4 quality players.

- Central defender
Need someone who is quality and experiences enough to marshall Keane. Preferably left sided as well (i. e. Koulibaly type who is very unlikely despite being linked with him in the past) . Between Keane, Holgate and Jagielka I think there's enough potential/ quality there if we can bring in one baller.

- Central mid
Think it's so important we bring in someone that can help Sigurdsson (attacking) and Gueye (defensively) if we're playing 3 midfielders as Silva has suggested. Need someone in between who is solid defensively but more importantly quality on the ball going forward. Thinking Torreira, Delaney, Gundogan type players obviously none of which would be targets but those types. I'd be upset if it was Wilshere and I really don't think Davies is up to holding a starting spot for us an needs to go out on loan.

- Vertatile forward
We have Tosun, Lookman and Walcott who I'm comfortable can play starting role at ST and wing positions respectively but we need another quality option who can play across the front 3. Someone faster and more physical than Tosun, who is a great finisher. Zaha is the first name that comes to thought, would offer great pace and power going forward. Even if Tosun was out imagine the damage a front 3 of Lookman, Zaha and Walcott could do.

- Left back
Unfortunately Bainsey can't go on forever. I'd be pretty comfortable having another season of Bainsey with perhaps Robinson backing him up but for long term it's important we can get someone in who can take his place straight away. Would love the Wendell signing as rumoured.

Thoughts blues? And Ed's do you have any info on if we're definitely persuing anyone hard?

I think you have highlighted the key positions and qualities required Aussie Blue with the possible addition of another goalkeeper as back up for Pickford
As to actual players I'm going to leave that to Silva/ Brands. They are being very quiet but hopefully they are doing their research and I'm going to put my faith into them picking the right people

Hey Blues

Haven’t been on for a while but I still keep up with the thread. What a season. Christ. I still can’t help but wonder what might have happened if we had of stayed patient with Koeman. But the writing was on the wall following our failure to sign a replacement for Lukaku. I still strongly believe that, that has been our biggest mistake this season. We didn’t have to sell until we had a replacement signed.

With the new backing financially it is obvious that both the fans and the board have new expectations from the players and mangers. And rightly so I think. But where do we draw the line? Both Martinez and Koeman both had fantastic starts followed by a big down turn. There aren’t many fantastic managers out there. and it’s going to take time to find success. It can’t simply be a matter of trial and error. We’re competing against 6 clubs who have the structure, players and finance to remain where they are. And we have only the finance at the moment. It’s going to take a period of 3-4 years for us to find the structure and the players. I think walsh was a massive mistake but I honestly think if Koeman had a DoF who was capable we wouldn’t be in this position. We have to back Moshiri to bring in the right person for the DoF job and then back whoever we can get in as manager.

Benitez or Fonseca will do for me. But as I say any new manager needs at least 2 full seasons before we see genuine progress. Not short term results.

Don't get me wrong I know I'm an optimist but how everyone can be so doom and gloom I don't know. When I look at all of the teams in the Premier there's literally not one team with the amount of young talent that we have: Lukaku, Barkley, Stones, McCarthy are the backbone of that and considering their age they are very experienced.

With players like these plus Deulofeu, Garbutt, Besic, Browning, Galloway not to mention the boys that are closer to their prime like Coleman, Mirallas and Cleverly (who has surprisingly impressed me). We actually have the opportunity to build something big and that's what Martinez is trying to do. Get behind him and the club. They don't want to sell our best players or we would have 30mil for Stones but now and 30+ for Barkley from last summer.

Howard
Coleman Stones Jags Baines
McCarthy Cleverly
Deulofeu Barkley Mirallas
Lukaku

Yes we need to make sure we strengthen our squad but I'm getting behind Martinez - he's told us he wants three and if we don't get them then we can be disappointed because that's a big let down. Get around them tomorrow and COYB. 3 points and top of the table tomorrow night ;)

3.) 07 Aug 2015 12:16:10
People underestimate how good cleverly is, he was a scape goat when things went wrong at Utd, I watched him when he was at Wigan seemed a different player to the one we have seen over last 2 seasons, but he is a good signing free as well and"quote best years ahead of him". He will fit in he gives energy that Barry has not got, Barry should be used sparingly now I mean should not start every game I would like to see us go 4-3-3 this season if fit with our current squad

Howard

Coleman. Stones. Jagielka. Baines.

Besic.
Macarthy. Cleverly.

Barkley. Mirralas
Lukaku

im with you on that. let's hope rm makes me eat humble pie.
just hope we sign some class acts before the window closes coyb

Guys I have a question, I'm interested to know what your thoughts will be at the end of the season if we win the Europa League and survive relegation.

I'm just as frustrated about this season and the way we've played at times (mostly) as most of you guys. And it shows because I haven't been waking up in the early hours of morning to watch the boys unless it's a Europa game where someone we manage to turn things around.

For me I'm actually happy about the way we seem to be prioritising the Europa league because we have a squad that really should be able to handle it and not be relegated. It'll be the best thing to happen to this club in recent history. And even if we don't win the Europa, if we survive the drop then it will have been a risk worth taking for me.

AussieBlue

1.) 13 Mar 2015 09:17:21
I would rather be out of the Europa League and be on 40 points. Premier League survival is vital. Without it we are dead as a club and won't come back from it.

No money, no stadium and players sold to keep our heads above water. Imagine Leeds then times it by 10. I have not been so nervous about our situation than this season.

Next season though, We need to keep this group and build by spending good money on a number of players and not one.

2.) 13 Mar 2015 13:36:30
BlueJohn:

Great post and agree with you on every point.

May I add to ''We need to keep this group'' by typing
' without RM' please?

then for me it's perfectly complete .

3.) 13 Mar 2015 19:43:44
Would rather survive in the PL to be honest. But having said that, I admit I started watching last nights game with a slight hope that we'd lose to be able to more fully concentrate on Premier league survival, but was really pleased with the result and now hope we go as far as we can in Europe. It's still a great showcase for the team internationally, which means that if (I mean when. definitely mean when!) we survive relegation, we will hopefully be still attractive for top players to join us in the transfer window, despite a shoddy season. This may depend on who the manager is at that time, though. If it's still RM, then it's probably "hello Cleverly".

Here's a flash back boys that will hopefully put in perspective that our club is actually in a good position.

3 years ago we had Denis Staqualursi, Royston Drenthe, Magaye Gueye and an ageing Phil Neville and a few others in and around our first team. I'd be surprised if people of that ability would make our reserves team this season. We finished 7th that season. We have the squad to get top 8 and anything less than that will not be a good enough.

It was the second time in 20 years we had a striker scoring more than 15 goals in a season - that's Lukaku who is 21 and just starting his career.

It was our highest league attendance average since the days of Rooney and Fergusonin the same team.

Let's be proud, get behind the boys, show a bit of heart and have a beast finish to this season.

1.) The problem is m8 that team 3 yrs ago might not of had the best player in the world but they new how to defend, an that's why we was finishing 5th so many times, this zonal marking is killing us, no good having class player who can't defend for toffee an create chance, in moyes last yr we had more shot on target an created more, than we have since rm been here the only thing we do better now is keep the ball in are own half its not good enough

{Ed025's Note - im with you on zonal marking BB...when was the last time space scored a goal?..

2.) 17 Jan 2015 11:05:25
Big Dennis Stracq would get in any team, more passion than anyone

{Ed025's Note - not for me murf...bags of passion, but a very limited footballer mate..

3.) I am with Bluebeard on this. If a team concedes every game and sometimes concedes 2, then they won't win many games. hey guess what. we haven't won many games. What a coincidence!

4.) 17 Jan 2015 13:09:55
What worried me in the press conference was that when questioned about our poor defending RM went on the lines that it wasn't an issue for an attacking team that can score goals, not sure that's what we really wanted to hear at this time!

5.) Saying that defense is not an issue in a Team that attacks and scores goals just goes to show that Roberto is blind to the position we are in, it also shows he is going down exactly the same road as he did with Wigan. Meanwhile Bill sits up their in his London Ivory Tower and not a word or any sign of action and worry. Never mind though eh Bill.

6.) We don't score enough goals to not worry about defence, we need to go back to man to man marking, if I was bill I tell RM that he must hire a defence coach,

7.) 18 Jan 2015 00:06:48
Just takin the mick Ed, loved the guy though

{Ed025's Note - you could not fault the guys effort murf...if he could have played football he would have been a cracker mate..

This is ideal. Like the Barry situation. Means we pay his wage but not a transfer fee and if it works out we can sign him on a free transfer next year.

Lol Ed seriously. we can still buy from Spain but Spanish clubs can't sign anyone because as you say their window is closed.

Thanks ed but do you have info on Evertons dealings with Lukaku? Fee agreed with Chelsea, terms reached with him or anything?

AussieBlue

{Ed002's Note - Everton has not made any offer to Chelsea and I doubt they would be stupid enough to tap the player up. Everton would need to either include Ross Barkley in a deal or find a significant amount of cash for any deal to happen. Chelsea will not want to sell him cheaply despite wanting him moved on.}

Ed33 I'm sorry this is just my option but this whole post is rubbish from you. We've assembled what has to be our best squad in years. If we don't learn how to defend come end of the season then yes it's not good enough at all but players and manager should be held responsible. It's not all doom and gloom. There's something special happening at Everton.

AussieBlue

{Ed033's Note - Yes you have that 'option'. i see what you're saying, you're saying i'm jumping the gun, because you potentially could still get into the champions league. i agree that you should be there or thereabouts, but will you?
