Duncan had a pigeon, a pigeon, a pigeon,
I suggest we all forget about transfers and start focussing on the blue boys staying at the top end of the table! Beginning with boro.
I for one, am glad to be breaking the awful summer addiction of constantly checking potential signings

Thanks for your reply NCTB I could find the thread to reply but I agree - IRKWT.

First off, I just want to clearly state that I am absolutely delighted at the progress the club has made over the last 6 months. actually, 3 months. Cast your mind back to how we all felt after the semi-final and the uncertainty as to whether Bobby was going to be given another season.
I think we've had a successful summer for signings, and it's very easy to forget that Lukaku was odds on to be sold, however I think the last week (yesterday particularly) have been a big learning curve for Moshiri, Walsh etc.
I think we've been trying to sign some real quality for the first time in a long while and have been very frustrated. I think we got it wrong and I have to say I'm disappointed we didn't add Bony or Benteke for another option up top and fear a lack of goals and to a lesser extent disappointed about Joe Hart although I think we were probably only able to get him for stupid money.
However, echoing what people have already posted, best signing is Koeman and his team. The changes already implemented have been immense and as I think Degsy said, quality players have already slotted in to starting 11. Some saying we've been lied to, where's the 100 million etc is just crazy. This isn't football manager.
I just think a quality striker would have made Europe qualification a lot more manageable, everyone was aware of that, and we've missed all targets. Unless I'm wrong and this loan from West Ham pays off.
I wonder what everyone's thoughts on Lukaku are? In reference to the 'at least one more year' assuming we don't finish 4th, If he has a great season will it be the same again next year? In which case we will probably need 3 forwards?

I'll always respect Moyes for what he did in his time here but I think he's had an awful start at Sunderland and they're in real trouble. I think the last 3 years might have had a really damaging effect.
Firstly, to publically say they are in a relegation fight is odd.
Secondly, to say yesterday "This club will attract a certain type of player and until we're in a much higher league position, only then we can attract much better" and then:
"The quality of the players that Sunderland can get at the moment are probably not what I've been buying in the last six years, or what I've had in the Premier League - not anywhere close to it. "
Unless misquoted, I think those statements should be a grave concern to Sunderland fans. He also started doing that weird referring to himself in the third person *cough cough Breakdown cough cough*
Parky_1982 is concerned. Ah well, can we have Kone please and stop messin about.

He was exactly the same when he was with us. I use to hate it. He made out that we were against the world and that our club was inferior to all the rest.

We still haven't shaken the tag off yet. To think people wanted him instead of Koeman!

2.) 24 Aug 2016 08:41:19
Set the standard so low and the expectation even lower and then when they finish 17th and get a point at Chelsea he can sayou they over achieved and he done great.

3.) 24 Aug 2016 08:48:53
People wanted Moyes instead of Koeman?! News to me BlueJohnUns. People on here or people you know personally?

In fairness he has a tough job keeping them up. SA is a good manager and done well to keep them up last year. They are probably the luckiest team to be in the premiership with the last 5 years in mind. Without Defoe and Kone they would of been in serious trouble last season.

Still Moyes is wrong in a lot of the things he is saying imo. You'd think he wouldn't be putting the club down after them giving him a chance back in the premiership.

He can still do a job for Sunderland and steady the ship imho. Even if he is making a lot of the wrong comments.

4.) 24 Aug 2016 09:32:22
I loved Moyes when he was with us. but honestly didn't want him back. But to be honest, thats' the reality of where Sunderland are. He is only telling it like it is. They are probably in a relegation battle and need to scrap for as many points as possible in any way they can. They are not cash rich with loads of investment, so players will not be attracted to them. I think he needs to get 4 or 5 in and they will have to be in a similar fashion to how he did it with us. eg Coleman 60k from Ireland. Stones 1.5 million from Barnsley. Jags 4 million from Sheffield Utd. Baines 5 million from Wigan. Barkley from youth set up. Osman youth set up. Then the odd 8-10 million signing and sell then on at great profit. eg Fellaini. and now you could add Stones. I find it funny that there are 2 ways of looking at things. One is that he stitched us up and never took us anywhere and under achieved. The other is that he did a great job of saving our club and then moved on to what he thought was better things. I am sure there is a bit of truth in both. but I do laugh at the comments about him.

5.) 24 Aug 2016 11:20:21
I didn't like him because he thought he was bigger than the club. Could you imagine Kendall or Royle saying what he did when he was manager?

I've taken Everton as far as I can.

I'd sell a player to further his career.

I'm ready for a bigger challenge.

Everton have reached their ceiling (after finishing 8th)

Opposing managers never slated our club more than what he did.

None of those comments made me laugh Degsy. Don't be brainwashed by him. Try seeing through his BS. It was even a level above Martinez only on the negative side. It's probably where you get a lot of your feelings from and I'm not having a go. But you sounded like him so many times that you forget about what our club really is and can be.

Your sounding more upbeat all the time though and i hope people like you that have felt our club has somehow losts it's stature in the game start to regain that confidence that our club can compete again.

I never doubted it. We just needed a few people in the right place to believe it too. The owner, manager, players and finally the fans.

COYB NSNO IRKWT.

6.) 24 Aug 2016 11:21:46
I can't really argue with any of that Degsy.

7.) 24 Aug 2016 12:25:01
His negative attitude obviously spilled over to the players especially when we went to 'big clubs'. 11 years and never won an away game at United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. Twice fluffing it at Wembley by trying to hold a one goal lead because we were inferior and the underdog in his mind. He has found his level at Sunderhand and is already getting his excuses in for when, not if he takes them down. Degsy remember Moyes broke our transfer record 3 times so wasn't all wheeling and dealing as you put it. He never sold Stones and never even had an input into his progression so to even mention that is null and void. He never sold Felliani for profit either as he was not at our club so again not relevant, his other big money signings, Yakubu? No profit, Billy? No profit, Beattie? No profit, Andy Johnson? The same. He never developed youth either and if he stayed Barkley wouldn't have got a sniff and Stones would have played second fiddle to Distan. He done well the first 3 maybe 4 seasons to stabilise but after that we stagnated and that stemmed from the negative attitude of the manager.

8.) 24 Aug 2016 14:04:33
I have to disagree with some points here. Firstly he did wheel and deal. In his 11 years, his total outlay was 1 million. Yes certain signings like Yakubu and Billy didnot work out. But his overall spend over 11 years was 1 million. I don't think another permiership club was run like that and climbed the league as we did. Certainly Villa and Newcastle spent far greater amounts and tumbled. To say he never developed youth. that's just wrong. What he did dowas blood players more slowly than Martinez. Martinez put them in to sink or swim. Look at the criticism that Stones and Barkley had in the last 3 years. I am sure Moyes would have blooded them more slowly. That sort of agrees with bluegray87's comments. but its just another way of looking at things. because I actually believe that the Moyes' way is better than Martinez's way. I believe he relied too much on the youth and put too much responsibility on these young players. But I have to agree on one thing. he did insult our club after he left. Some of his comments were wrong. The point about Kendall and Royle is obvious to me. Both were true Evertonians. just like us. Moyes was a bloke doing his job.

9.) 24 Aug 2016 14:49:44
To be honest Moyes has only said what everyone thought anyway Sunderland will be bottom half of table so yes they would be in a relegation fight we finished 12 last year and we were not that many points of bottom 3.

10.) 24 Aug 2016 16:14:55
'Moyes wad a bloke doing his job' Royle and Kendall both won trophies whereas Moyes didn't and hasn't still!

Fantastic post that Stevie.
I'd also add that, to be fair to Kenwright re not getting rid of Martinez sooner, when you think how much work must have gone in to the Moshiri deal; it was only finalised end of Feb. I think he had enough on his plate in the first half of the season and bringing in Moshiri and Koeman wipes out the procrastination imho.

I enjoy your posts NBTB and as I've said on numerous occasions I'm made up with everything that's going on at the club so this is just a genuine question. would you have taken Bony or Benteke? Are you not a little bit worried we're short upfront? Ok 2 questions.

In part, I think the problem is that he was a Martinez signing from Wigan who at best is a hard working squad player and that's doesn't sit easy with evertonians who demand high standards.
Would Koeman keep him/ play him if we had more quality? I don't believe so which is why I think he'll be gone in the next 12months. For me, he's a good championship player -- he's hardworking, has a decent goal tally and seems like a nice fella.
