There's a lot of speculation regarding a possible bid for Man Utds Januzaj in the summer, with a figure of around £20 million being mentioned. Why on earth would anyone spend that on somebody who can't get into their first team and cost them less than half a million?

Popeye

1.) 12 Apr 2015 03:01:26
Im not a fan, well, that's putting it lightly, I remember a post on the utd banter page saying he would be the best player in the world in about 3 years, I literally cried, not because the truth hurts but because that is ridiculous. let's see, dives, slow, oh yes, very slow, remember the fa cup final when wigan beat man city? Remember callum mcmanaman outpacing clichy? Remember torres doing it, the same gael clichy that januzaj knocked the ball past and SPRINTED towards whilst clichy JOGGED and still got there first by about 5 yards. can't beat a man (unless you count steven whittaker but technically he slipped) and you know what? I can't be bothered, overrated, imagine atsu without pace and ends up on the floor a lot more, that's januzaj. Paceless and useless. But as long as he 'enjoys his football' then hell, he's probably already signed.

2.) 12 Apr 2015 07:27:09
I think it would be 10 million. I would be happy with Januzaj and Deulofeu if it could be pulled off. Keep hold of Henen as well and get him playing in the Senior squad

3.) 12 Apr 2015 18:59:07
Can be very good on the ball, but without the ball, very poor, does not seem to get it, that this. is also part of his job, so at 20m or even 10m, thanks but no thanks.

4.) 12 Apr 2015 20:10:14
Wouldnt take him agree with Swan he is overrated and if he played for any other team other than united he wouldn't get a mention as a prospect and would probably be on loan at Preston!

5.) 13 Apr 2015 11:57:20
Hey guys, I wouldn't worry about Adnan - why would he want t you join you mid table strugglers? Carry on like this next season and you could be looking at the drop.

6.) 18 Apr 2015 08:36:58
I'd take cleverly before januzaj, and I wouldn't take cleverly in a million years, both overrated crap, no, just no

Quote from Cleverley after signing

"It's difficult to think about targets so soon, but it's a club that can definitely be fighting towards that top six and hopefully go on a good cup run, which was something I was lucky enough to experience last year."

He's hardly shooting for the stars.

1.) 01 Jul 2015 13:46:03
Oh give it a rest will ya! Get of the lads back ffs

2.) 01 Jul 2015 15:33:32
I think most supporters would echo that and say top 6 coupled with a decent run in the cups.

3.) 01 Jul 2015 15:43:49
Terribly sorry, thought it was a banter site for a moment. You may be happy for a new signing to say we will be fighting 'towards' the top 6 and have a good cup run I want a new signing with fire in his belly.

4.) 01 Jul 2015 17:29:04
Like, I'm going to give a 1000% to stop us getting relegated :)

5.) 01 Jul 2015 19:10:52
yes why didn't he say we should be aiming for the league title!. Why? Because that would be silly.

6.) 01 Jul 2015 23:37:53
Yeh it is a banter site. You gave your opinion and I gave mine.

7.) 02 Jul 2015 00:19:32
He said top 6 because even he knows that will be a struggle, poeple will moan about anything

8.) 02 Jul 2015 11:23:26
To aflm78

No, I gave my opinion, you told me that I wasn't allowed to. Do you work for the Echo?

9.) 02 Jul 2015 11:34:33
We won't finish in the top 6 though, or have a cup run. So Clevs is being far too optimistic.

20 years and Counting
Martinez Out

10.) 02 Jul 2015 14:47:10
20 years and counting

Kenwright Out

11.) 02 Jul 2015 21:28:02
Never said you weren't allowed to give you opinion merely said to get off the guys back. He hasn't even kicked a ball for us!! If he had talked about Top 4 someone would have said he was talking crap and being unrealistic. Why is it that people who love to criticise get so defensive when people criticise them!? If you like to dish it out you should also learn to take it instead of getting all upset!!

10 Jun 2015 13:48:15
Just seen on the official site that George Green has been released. This lad was supposed to be the next big thing, what happened?

Popeye

1.) 10 Jun 2015 15:40:33
I was just as surprised to see he has been released, given the talent we were led to believe the lad possessed. By all accounts, even in his loan spell at Tranmere, his attitude has been quite poor. Goes to show that you can have all the ability in the world but if you're mentally floored then it is hard to make it to the top. I wish him all the best and hope he finds a club and manager who can sort him out

15 May 2015 11:19:45
So Martinez has apparently stated that we are not in the market for another striker and that he is happy with Lukaku and Kone. Well that makes one of us.

Popeye

1.) 15 May 2015 13:50:03
Kone is going to be with us for another season but I agree we need another forward or a solution within the squad.

I'm hoping Lukaku will learn how to play as a main striker but I don't think he can play alone. He's not strong enough(somehow!?) and has a terrible first touch sometimes.

He is more like David Banner instead of the Incredible Hulk.

2.) 15 May 2015 15:54:21
Charlie Austin, is no Ronaldo or Mesie, but he is, a proven goal scorer, (even in a poor side), he is clearly available, and he is within our price bracket, not to put us in the mix, is another act of selfrightus arrogance, from that know all spanish bull stirrer.

3.) 16 May 2015 02:50:04
David banner is that a relation of bruce

{Ed001's Note - isn't he a rapper?}

4.) 16 May 2015 07:08:14
Charlie austin is a player i'd love us to sign.

5.) 16 May 2015 14:36:34
Mike, Hulk's alter ego was changed from Bruce Banner in the comics to David in the tv series. Don't know why. Also, Lukaku has been wearing purple pants this season (third away kit) just like Hulk has for the last fifty years, so the comparisons continue. Sorry, went a bit nerdy in this post. Back to footy. Yes, get Charlie Austin. He's had a meteoric rise so far and is only going to get better with more PL experience.

{Ed001's Note - I don't want to get any nerdier but there are a lot of disputes over why the name change occurred. Ferrigno has publicly criticised it as he claims the name was changed as Bruce Banner sounded too gay. The guy who made the series gives a couple of different reasons though, one being he wanted to honour his son, the other being his dislike of comic books made him want to remove the TV series as far from the comics as possible. Sorry it was one of those things that always intrigued me so I looked it up one day when I was bored.}

11 Apr 2015 21:58:07
What the hell does Martinez see in Kone. Anyone?

Popeye

{Ed025's Note - i cant answer that popeye..

1.) 12 Apr 2015 02:19:53
Answer; he once played for Wigan. Personly he and martinez can both go back their.

2.) 12 Apr 2015 02:51:05
I think its the injury, I don't think he's recovered and don't think he ever will, shame.

3.) 12 Apr 2015 02:52:15
I think its the injury, he hasn't recovered and don't think he ever will, shame, could of been good for us.

4.) 12 Apr 2015 13:25:18
I argued at the time that selling Anichebe for 4 millionwho was 23. then replacing him with Kone for 6 million was crazy business. Remember Swan? Kone is past his sell by date and added to which apparently has malaria, is a Muslim. so fasts during Ramadam. I never saw the logic then and I still don't see it. I also argued about the poor choice of signings of McGeady and Alcaraz. I was told that Alcaraz was a free and so was an excellent signing and McGeady was quality. Yes. I will say no more except to say I also think Lennon would be a poor signing. I agree that he has had 2 reasonable games for us and scored a couple of goals, but his oveall contribution in past seasons has been very poor. Only time will tell.

5.) 12 Apr 2015 14:27:05
Well I don't know who told you that but whoever it was they hadnt taken their medicine. Both kone and anichebe are poor and i'd rather have neither, 2 reasonable games? Good yesterday, boss against southampton, boss against newcastle, boss against qpr, good cameo v liverpool, comtributions in last seasons are reasons to not like him now? Makes sense, been a good signing and I want us to go for him and won't be bothered if we lose mirallas.

6.) 12 Apr 2015 14:55:54
It was a stupid purchase in the first place in my opinion. Kone had a decent season for Wigan, think he scored about 13 but I could be wrong, the year they got relegated. He didn't impress at all in his first few performances and then illness and injury stifled his progress. I'm trying to be fair and give him the benefit of the doubt but the only plus point I can think of is he holds the ball up well. And that's about it. Degsy, I always thought it was a confidence thing with Victor, some games he showed he could mix it then he would go missing for months. The crowd was always on his back and, as a young player, I thought he tried too hard to impress. But look at what he has done, away from the club that brought him through, without the pressure of our crowd on his shoulders. Absolutely nothing. He has spent a lot of time injured, probably scored a few but not in double figures. They are both as bad as each other just Victor has got longer career ahead of him due to his age.
Regarding Lennon, I think it's a no brainer that we buy him for the price that has been set, 6m I believe. He's had a few decent games, has a bit of pace, makes intelligent runs and seems happy enough to be involved. His last couple of seasons at spurs have seen him spend a bit of time in the treatment room as well as a loss of form. Don't forget that spurs have changed manager a few times over last few seasons so that doesn't help if you are only on the fringes of the team. I think we should judge him on what he has done for us rather than what he never did at spurs. And if he keeps AM out of the team then all is good!

7.) 12 Apr 2015 16:02:37
Swan mate, you told me that Kone was far superior to Anichebe and would score loads of goals for us. You did say Anichebe was crap.but you did not say Kone was. You also told me that Alcaraz was a brilliant free signing. I am not having a personal dig, but merely pointing out past disagreements. I can't be bothered getting into yet another slanging match so will leave it at that. Remember what I say about Lennon though. He is Spurs 3rd choice for a reason. He is behind Townsend who I know you do not rate.

8.) 12 Apr 2015 16:54:58
Yes but I didn't expect kone to get an injury for 19 months! i'm not psychic like you degsy. I did think alcaraz was a decent free signing, he's good on the ball but his constant injuries haven't helped. I did think kone was better than anichebe, I still do, I also remember saying when we signed him I wanted someone else but he's better than we had (which is true, I wouldn't swap lukaku, kone naismith for anichebe, vellios and jelavic would you?). The spurs thing is irrelavent, their manager thinks danny rose is the best left back in england (do you agree?), what he thinks doesn't bother me, i'm judging lennon on what he's done for us which has been good.

9.) 12 Apr 2015 17:12:41
Hey Swan, a decent debate between us. I agree with some of your points. My only jibe about Kone if you remember was I said at the time Anichebe was 23 and Kone was (I think) 29. Purely from a business point of view.neither is a million times better than the other so why did we pay 6 mill for Kone yet only got 4 mill for Anichebe. Re Lennon, I watched him for a number of seasons and the only manager who could seem to get him to cross the ball well was Hawwy Wednap. To me (and its only my opinion) he is similar to McGeady in the fact he can go past players easy enough, only to put a cross in row Z of the upper bullens. ie he flatters to deceive. But I will reserve my final judgement and see how he gets on.coz I think we will probably sign him. and yes so far he has been good for us.

{Ed025's Note - you make some good points degs...but comparing lennon to mcgeady is not one of them mate..

10.) 12 Apr 2015 17:53:49
We got 6m for anichebe, mcgeady doesn't work half as hard as lennon nor have the pace of him or intelligent movement lennon has. that's not a fair comparison mate

{Ed025's Note - im with you swan..

11.) 12 Apr 2015 18:27:38
I agree Swan. Especially on the work rate. He closes down defenders very well. And he has already scored a couple for us although he usually averages only 3 a season. I would say Lennon is in good form. Whether he sustains it, we will see. And yes Ed, he has done more in about 4 games than McGeady did in 20. McGeady is actually better than his performances suggest.he is totally devoid of confidence now. I am sure McGeady is now 4th or 5th choice now. Mirallas, Osman, Lennon and even others playing out of position eg Naismith, Pienaar are probably ahead of him. Thank God. But hopefuly he will regain some form and be useful.although I doubt it.

28 Mar 2015 15:16:28
It seems to me that the players have lost confidence in their own ability. Players know when their form drops and no amount of "phenomenal" comments from Martinez is going to convince players that they are playing well. In my opinion Martinez is doing the players a disservice by not being honest in his interviews, I'm not suggesting he should castigate individuals but he should hold his hands up and admit that a players form has dropped and rest them. I think a high proportion of the game is played in the players minds and having the correct mindset approaching a game (especially when on a losing streak) is half the battle. I would suggest the use of a sport psychologist would be of benefit in balancing the "phenomenal, amazing, outstanding" comments of Martinez. Any thoughts?

just listening to him all season makes me think a good dose of reality might be needed not sure if even he can actually believe what he is saying most of the time.

I thought the same, the last thing we need is more misery around the dressing room. He should think of this as a chance to prove himself to us and Spurs, he's playing for his future as his current manager obviously doesn't rate him. Cheer up mate worse things happen at sea.

If Red Rosie and Caolan_2 don't understand the laws of supply and demand I can only suggest that they look at their own transfer dealings. I am heartily sick of fans and the media thinking they name their own price when it comes to our players. I also suggest if you want to whine about our 'inflated' prices you go back to your own page where I'm sure you will be met with agreement that Everton should accept a packet of polo's and a groundsman on loan for a year.

We are mathematically safe. The bottom two are down and third bottom Sunderland would need to win all their remaining games to overtake us, including the fixture against fourth bottom Leicester on the 16th May which would then mean Leicester couldn't overtake us. Either way we can't finish in the bottom 3.
