Everton are considering the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager on a two-year deal, according to reports in Italy.

Italian news site Calciomercato has alleged that the Chilean is intrigued by the proposition of making the Blues a team to fear again, and that he is prepared to hold further talks with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri in the coming days.

Pellegrini, 62, was recently replaced as manager of Manchester City after it was announced back in February that Pep Guardiola would be taking over at the Etihad Stadium.

Pellegrini had been linked with the managerial vacancy at La Liga side Valencia, but the Spanish outfit opted to bring in Paco Ayestaran instead.

And in an interview published on Monday in the Guardian, Pellegrini stated that he would consider retirement if he did not find a football club that would suit his needs.

However, the former Malaga and Real Madrid boss believes that taking charge of the Toffees could be a project that he is interested in, and that he could be enticed into signing a two-year contract with the option of extending said deal by a further 12 months.

Pellegrini is one of a number of candidates vying for the vacant position at Goodison Park following the sacking of Roberto Martinez nearly three weeks ago.

Ex-Ajax manager Frank de Boer, Sevilla head coach Unai Emery, former Everton boss David Moyes and Southampton's Ronald Koeman are all also in the frame to take over on Merseyside.

Honestly, his first management gig can't be with us surely, it would be a massive gamble considering he hasn't got premier league management experience or any actual management experience for that matter. I remember when Brian Kidd kicked out on his own, people raves that if he was fergies no.2 he must be good. But we saw where all the talent was there.

I hope not, even if Giggs turned out to be a success for us we'd only be a stepping stone to him returning to Utd. I want a Mgr who's going to build a dynasty over the next decade or so. Pellegrin, Low and LVG are too old, Emery has a dodgy away record, FDB seems keen but has no Prem experience so he may be a gamble so for me Koeman is first choice with Moyes a close second. Unfortunately I think Koeman will stay where he is because of them qualifying for Europe. Moyes did a great job for us on a shoe-string. He only left us because the biggest job in the Prem was offered (who'd say no) ! He made some shrewd buys and we played good solid footy under him. With more funds available he could correct what RM screwed up (quickly) and finish what he started. My only reservation is that he didn't spend too well when he had money and may not be the big name Mgr some players look for . but Overmars as our DoF would help overcome that. Moyes doesn't deserve the bad press he's getting, he's the best Mgr we've had in a generation. He did a comparable job to LVG at Utd (poison chalice job after Fergie) and saved Real Soc from relegation . If Koeman isn't interested then I say bring Moyes back.

Stop listening to the rags who print sh*t for money.

Seriously who reads or even takes notice of 'The Star' 'Guardian' 'The Sun (pass the sick bag) ', oh and even 'The Mirror' all political/ sensationalist rags. Convinced our next Manager is one of two and we know who they are. This fella we have as a Boss now is nobody's fool and like most of his ilk he surrounds himself with very clever astute advisors and experts in their particular field, why should he suddenly change and turn himself into some sort of SOHO magnate/ showman who shoots from the hip.
