Just read an article about the best free agents that are looking for clubs at the moment and 3 caught my eye that I thing would be good for us. Pablo Aimar, Franco Di Santo and Matthieu Flamini. OK they aren't the best players but I think they would be worth a shot. What do you think ed? {Ed025's Note - all pretty decent them mate..
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Very surprised Martinez never went for Di Santo tbh
Agree0
Disagree0
Don't forget that even if a player joins for no fee (free transfer) we still have to find the wages, etc. , within our limited budget and our total wage bill will be capped by the financial fair play rules.

Would take both aimar and flamini if we couldn't get another midfielder in

How can the likes of Swansea, Norwich & Cardiff to name but a few out spend us? It's abit worrying that so call teams below us are spending big? Ok we have a good so called 13-18 players but worrying we won't spend like we should to progress
Deano
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Agreed, Deano. Although there are a bunch of people who post on this site who get all tetchy when you point out the bleedin' obvious to them. Fact is, Everton cannot progress without a decent transfer budget and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Where's the money, Bill?
Agree0
Disagree0
Ok let me explain my friend when teams come up from championship first season is survive once you achieved that you aim for stability ie remain in prem for long term the difference in revenue is huge so when a team like Norwich come up they they buy players to take them to next level how much would you say it would cost for Norwich to get a squad near are quality I made my point Southampton have spent 20million on 2 players and yes it makes them stronger and better but do you think if we bought the same 2 players it would take us to champions league answer no we need to sign 15m+ players to take us to next level so we would need to be spending 40m + and those players are already or want to be playing champ league and that what David moyes was good at always improving us year on year
Agree0
Disagree0
It seems that everyone is an expert at telling other people how they should spend their money. But what happens if all 20 EPL clubs "speculate" on big-money high-wage players? Three clubs will get relegated and they might each be heavily indebted due to imprudent speculation. Do they just casually shrug their shoulders and cynically go into administration - taking the points deduction, but avoiding their debts and saying "to hell with our creditors"?
Unhappy-Camper {Ed007's Note - We call that 'Doing a Rangers' up here.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Some of these clubs are starting from a much lower base in terms of what they've already spent - in wages and contracts
we've already got 7 or 8 international standard players so have reached our ceiling - they have a lot of cheaper players so haven't
Agree0
Disagree0
In answer to your question about the money its gone on the loans person kenwright took out with green and earl at 50% interest. So as a personal loan won't show in any legitimate losses on the club accounts if a prospective buyer does a due dillgance survey on the books. This is a very deceptive move by there's no bigger Evertonian than me Kenwright people see through this charlatain year after year but we cannot get rid of this person because he still wants some kind of controling position even if he relinquishes his majority of shares so that's the reason all these lesser clubs can out bid us. Sooner or later we will get caught in a relegation fight and won't be able to win that particular duel
Agree0
Disagree0
To the one talking about 50% loans - what utter rubbish. When people offer you drugs - just say NO.
Back to reality -
The money is spent on wages. We don't have a mid table team. We have a team that is not far from challenging the top four.
Other teams like Southampton and Norwich have lesser players and therefore have a much lower wage bill and they also tend to finish much lower in the league.
They are investing but are still miles behind us who CONSISTENTLY finish in the top 8.
The others like West Brom and Swansea are the best of the rest at the bottom end of the table but could just as easily finish in the bottom three than a top 10 finish.
Personally, I don't want us to do a Leeds, Portsmouth or QPR and spend what we don't have and end up in administration. And if you want to know if its a recipe for success take a look at what league they are in!

Bent is a martinez player likes up with the wingers and he's got bags of pace
Believable0
Unbelievable0
You must be watching a different bent to me because he doesn't link up with anyone, he's a lazy, selfish player, sometimes selfish is good in a striker but in Bent's case it isn't.
Agree0

Agree completely with first commenter. Bent has no interest in linking up with wingers, he just wants the ball himself so he can shoot.

And that AB is exactly what we need

Can't seem to find my post from last night so assuming it's dropped off. Briefly just interested in everyone's take on the new away shirt? Been away sunning myself for a couple of weeks and only just seen it. Who at the club has the final say on the prototype designs which are then commissioned? They need their backside kicking out the club IMO! I'll do the job for free.

it may take a while for martinez tactics to work with the players but I can see him bringing in wigan players as a sensible idea, they know how he likes to play so maybe by bringing in players from his old club can help are team change quicker then f**k them of and bring in more quality then are players will show them how to play the style of football we will use give us 2 to 3 seasons then we will be back in Europe this I coming from a qualified B licensed coach
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Majority of professional footballers should be capable of playing to a set system and team formation. I believe Roberto was shrewd in giving playing time to squad in US and will now know where he needs to tweak his approach.
He will also have identified who he would like to strengthen the team/squad.
Imo he is very sound tactically which will be seen when we need to change formation (s) to regain control of games.

Everybody knows about us wanting Scott Sinclair being up for sale and us showing interest. I think we should get Gareth Barry also because they reckon he is surpluss to requirements at City and left out of the squad due to play Arsenal in Helsinki. Amazing player at Villa but not settled yet and still he starts most games. What do you think Ed {Ed025's Note - not a player i rate bob, over hyped for me mate..

Believable0

Says it all about Utd fans doesn't it? Fickle, glory hunters who, even when they want to follow another team, (w*nkers), have to choose one that's bought their success! (To Celtic fans reading - that's not a dig at your team, but you know you've more money than the others in the SPL, & are more or less going to walk the division - that's the combination that USED to give Utd fans a stiffy!)

In some quarters today we are linked with jean beusijeur. Now come on what's going on here plus he wants mcarthy. Is he trying to get the same team that took wigan down. Why not do a hull and change the name to relegated fc. Naismith has been one of evertons great successes this pre season he deserves a chance now
Believable0

Typical, another example of 'the master tactician' and his transfer policy, stubborn small minded embarrassing decision, no wonder we getting called Everton athletic! Another 29 year old player (with 2 relegation's under his belt) who will need to be replaced in a season or two, short term solution I thought he was meant to be taking us forward and building, this signing would just restrict one of our younger players development something he is meant to be addressing
He's getting on my nerves now!
L4 4EL
Agree0

Not as much as people like L4 4el get on my nerves. Fans like this are plain embarrassing. How can you blame the manager for a rumour in a lowbrow newspaper? If all rumours are true we would have a squad 1000+. If you can't show support then shut up.

I didn't proclaim any knowledge. I didn't make wild, unfounded accusations that are detrimental to the team either. Supporters should do just that though; support. Abusing the manager over a rumour before he has even had his first game is ridiculous and its that sort of unhelpful behaviour that we don't need on the terraces.

Anyone think spurs are buying a lot of midfielders so far there squad is as follows
Paulinho
Parker
Huddlestone
Dembele
Holtby
Lennon
Chadili
Townsend
Sandro
Siguardsson
And possibly capoue
That's an awful lot to keep happy especially with World Cup places at stake reason I mention this is all will want to play as much as possible I would go after dembele the guy could be world class and I don't see him starting more than 15 matches this season at spurs 7-10million could do it and it would be a bargain, all these other players that people come up with like marrone from Italy he only played a few times all season and there talking near 10million even if we paid 15 million for dembele he is proven in this league right age and he is Belgium ed thoughts
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Dembele is spurs best mf and will start most games for them. would love him to come to us though but I think it would be a no goer
Agree0

I personally would pop in there with a cheeky 10mil bid for dembele then raise it to 12, I would rather pay that or 15mil for him than mccarthy.
Agree0
Disagree0
Agree with first commenter. He is their best midfield player. I think they had something like 65% win success with him, 20% without. AVB isn't so stupid as to not notice he is clearly very valuable. That said, Holtby does seem slightly more expendable and he appears to have forgotten about Sandro, as well, and I'd welcome both with open arms.

Holty is a everton fan too. at least we know he would give it 110% in the blue jersey. I've try a bid for him

Ok I know my old eyes aren't what they used to be but I've read it three times now and its still saying the same. "Everton chasing winger Jean Beausejour as possible replacement for Baines" i`ll say that again "Everton chasing winger Jean Beausejour as possible replacement for Baines" this has got to be a joke, Beausejour struggled in the Premier League with Birmingham and then was in the very poor Wigan defense that got them relegated. I`ll never stop being a blue but this would be a real sign things aren't going to improve and I really want RM to be a success. let's all hope hope I'm hallucinating this.

Attention Bill Kenwright. take a leaf out of John Henrys' book. Get up early tomorrow morning and inform the world of Football. which includes David Moyes & Manchester United, that Marouanne Fellaini is NOT FOR SALE at ANY PRICE. and Leighton Baines is NOT FOR SALE at ANY PRICE! Both of these players are under contract at Everton FC, and if we keep selling these players every season or so after building a Team that is near to challenging the so called Top Four. we will NEVER attract serious investors or even a Billionaire who might buy us out completely, because we don't show enough commitment to trying to maybe, incredible as it may sound, actually trying to win the Title ourselves! Yes you may laugh, but why not Everton, this Club has done it all before and we can do it all again. but only if we continue to build & strengthen the team each season with a blend of youth and experience and class decent players. All these footballers should realise that they can't all play for Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea or Arsenal. So my message to Baines & Fellaini is "Stay at Everton and achieve your ambitions with this great Club". You are extremely well paid and if a person can't manage on £70,000 per week then they have a problem. its called GREED! Most of the fans that pay your wages week in week out are either low paid and struggling or are on Benefits and borrowing to just enable them to go to the odd match and it would take about 6 years to get what these players earn in a week! It's time for our great Club to return to where it belongs, and it is possible without multi millions of pounds, although obviously the money helps in the modern game. But look how close Moyes has been a few times during his reign. with very little money. it is possible and maybe Martinez could be the man to restore the "Good Times". Fellaini inpaticular should realise just how privileged He is to be able to pull on the famous Blue Jersey, and should make a statement saying he wants to stay at Everton. Good Luck for the coming Season Boys. Let's Do It!

I admire your passion and loyalty there mate but 3 words dominate the modern game these days and they're
"balancing the books" Unfortunately football has moved in a way were money dictates everything.
We run mainly at a loss mate, our revenue does not quite match our expenditure and because of this the only saleable asset we have to keep the wolves from the door is our players.
Sad state of affairs mate but that's the way it is.

I agree with what you say with regards to bill telling the world baines is not for sale because baines is happy at everton but fellaini isn't (imo)therefor we should tell any team that is interested that the bidding starts at 25 mil. gad is carrol, henderson and dowing went for the money that they did the that price for fellaini is a bargin!
