watching France/ Belgium tonight think I have seen the World Cup winner. Just do not see England living with that standard should they overcome Croatia and that will be 50-50.

I think I've seen the winners aswell. England.

On this one ktf, maybe just maybe? Yes France are favourites, but we have a chance.

If we get to the final, it is a totally different game to meeting them on the way. France looked good last time out but buckled in the final. It's anyone's game.

Unfortunately Croatia’s big names put in performances and ours didn’t. Pickford was immense as was the rest of our defensive play, but thought we’d regret the two missed chances as the game went on. Walker and Stones were at fault for the goals but both have had fantastic tournaments and played well for 99% of the game last night.

At least for once we leave a tournament with our heads held high and hope for the future with a proper plan.

OK fellow posters - here's a poser - be honest:
If Ademola Lookman really wants to leave - AND we could get an appropriate fee for him AND we could recruit a decent replacement - would you be prepared to say "business is business" and let him go? What if it wasn't RB Leipzig who wanted him, but an English club?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

10 Jul 2018 12:53:16
If the player doesn’t see his future at Goodison then let him move on. Get a good fee from a foreign club and a ridiculously high one from an English club. That said with a heavy heart.

Agree9 Disagree2

10 Jul 2018 12:54:05
If a player wants to leave let him leave no point in keeping him.

Agree4 Disagree1

10 Jul 2018 13:57:33
That's exactly what I always say. If they don't want to play for us and want to move on then look for a solution to the problem. Whether it be a transfer, loan deal or release. Obviously some of the players aren't always amongst the level needed to make the first team squad and some just want to play regular football, I get that. All circumstances are different depending on what the individual wants/ needs.

10 Jul 2018 18:56:35
Of he goes then I would insist on a buy back clause.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 19:16:53
Not sure what we insert in clauses currently but I think we need to be including buy backs and sell ons, we have a great academy
If Besic leaves I think we should have a buy back there as well, I think we could regret letting him leave if he can prove his fitness although right now I feel it’s right for Besic to go.

Agree4 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 14:04:12
I think keeping him is vital. I think he wants to leave (if true) due to the lack of faith showed in him. Maybe he feels undervalued and wants more opportunities. If that is the case then I believe that could be reversed. Would be gutted to loose him. I think SA messed up big time not playing him even when we were safe.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 11:57:41
Ironmike has just put on that sporting are seeking legal advice reg wolves signing their keeper I'm glad we stepped back from Carvalhio as I think this is going to get really messy can any eds shed any light on how wolves signed him as I would think sporting would still own his registration.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - they haven't signed him. They have agreed terms with the player but no signing is done until registration is transferred.}

10 Jul 2018 12:20:26
Cheers ED01 I thought I thought he had signed it's going to get very messy all this.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, incredibly messy. They have taken a big risk but they needed a keeper and he is a quality one, so it is probably worthwhile as they could agree a deal with Sporting still.}

10 Jul 2018 12:56:11
Think they went about it the wrong way they should of struck a deal with sporting first imo now it looks like getting very messy which won't help anyone.

Besides the following reasons, why would a footballer join a particular club?
To win trophies.
To earn big wages.
To play for a particular manager/ coach.
To play alongside certain other players.
To live in an attractive city or country.
To be where his family (wife and children) like living.
To play for his favourite (boyhood? ) club.
And, finally, because it's the only club that offers him a contract ;-)

Believable2 Unbelievable1

10 Jul 2018 14:05:41
Suppose it depends on their age. I see the money and playing for certain managers as a younger players priority and older players to be more trophy, player and city/ family driven.

Though to be honest, cash is king so I wouldn’t be surprised if all players had this as their top priority.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 09:29:57
Because their agent suggests it strongly? Because they have more chance of being picked regularly? Because they feel they can play regularly and therefore get into their national side? Because they feel isolated where they currently are? Because they don't feel valued? Because they don't want to play where they currently are for a personal reason? ie a desire to get away from one club rather than specifically go to another club?

11 Jul 2018 17:34:03
Because, because, because, because, becaaaaaaaaaause, because of the wonderful things he does. You know the rest.

Even though a few players have already moved out, we still have around 35 players vying for a place in the first-team squad.
Assuming that Silva wants around 25 squad players, that means 10 or so current players still have to be moved out (permanently or on loan) - or be consigned to our U23 setup. All of that is before we even add any new recruits.
So, pre-season training - and the various "friendly" matches - are crucial (or so it would seem) to the futures of around a third of the current squad.
I wouldn't be surprised if some players disliked by fans get a "stay of execution" by impressing Silva AND neither would it be surprising if some fan favourites didn't form part of Silva's plans. Either way, not every fan is going to be satisfied by who stays, who goes and who arrives.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

I see very little chance that Zaha would join Everton.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

10 Jul 2018 15:13:13
Not too sure about the banded 70 Million, let’s not forget Bolasie looked like Pele at a Palace in playwise.

No doubting Zaha has ability, but my money or not, overpriced for me, when you look at other players signing for much much less.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 15:18:52
let me put it another way, would you sign Zaha for a reduced £50 Million if lucky, or spend half of that on landing Tierney for £25 Million. I know which I would prefer.

We have Lookman for now, Vlasic, other targets to play out wide, but for me a standout left back available, where we do not have that luxury as plenty of cover.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 16:22:06
Zaha is a strange one. I believe he has the talent to be a real asset but he does it so little. A player who goes missing too often or who tries to grab the glory at the expense of better team performance is not a worthwhile signing. It's a shame because he really could be in the same bracket as Sterling, Alli etc if he got his act together.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 19:21:20
I think Zaha is a good player and a better one a Palace I think he ups his game being there as he is their talisman would be hit the same levels elsewhere? I don’t think he would but I do love to be proved wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 09:20:43
I don't understand the 70m price tag being mooted for Zaha. Crazy. This also seems like similar recruiting to last season. Plus I don't get the its not your money principle. Football is a bussiness aswell as a sport so I would like my football team to operate efficiently business wise as well. Plus the more you spend on one, the less you spend on the rest due to budget limits and financial fair play rules. Any cheaper suggestions?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

10 Jul 2018 09:49:30
Supply and demand blue-tit. Teams want him and Palace don’t want to sell him. They can ask for crazy money and someone is likely to pay it. How much would we demand for Pickford now if Man U of Real M came calling?

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Jul 2018 09:50:43
Why are you getting angry over speculation? We haven't bought anyone yet but you're already having a go at them. Chill and sit back. Enjoy the summer, have a drink and see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 09:55:09
I can’t speak for everyone of course, but when fans say it’s not their money they are likely saying they trust that the club have ensured that the deal is an affordable one or else they would walk away.

£70 million for Zaha is wild I agree. Whether we can afford that and of course if the player wants to come to Goodison is another thing. Great player though.

Agree3 Disagree1

10 Jul 2018 10:09:37
And ignore FFP reg transfer fees and the tv money that we get makes it difficult to fail that part off ffp it's the wages side that stump clubs and we shouldn't be too worried reg that side either after the massive profit we made on Lukaku and the 100% profit on Barkley we should be just fine but that's not to say we will just offer daft money we still need to operate efficiently.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - The sale of Lukaku has nothing to do with wages.}

10 Jul 2018 10:42:43
I love the player, wanted him when he left Man Who, it was Moyes who got rid, and we all know why?

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2018 11:02:50
Ed002: is it fair to say that in the case of Lukaku, he was ambitious for a Champions League club (and may have been “promised” a transfer if he gave Everton that final season) and the club was just being sensible and financially prudent by getting the best fee they could in the end for a player they couldn’t hold on to? I imagine he was offered big wages to extend his contract with Everton, but he wanted to go to a more likely successful club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of promises allowing him to leave were made but he wanted to step up to the next level, and has done so. When he left there were a number of sides interested and Everton did well financially with the move. Staying at Everton was not going to be an option.}

10 Jul 2018 11:37:06
Ed002: thanks for the reply. I wish Everton fans would temper their ambition with an understanding of where the club is at present in football’s “pecking order” - and realise how much time, effort, money, intelligence, determination (and luck! ) it will take until the club is at the level where Lukaku (and similar top players) regard it as a “step up”.

Agree0 Disagree2

10 Jul 2018 11:49:13
Of course it does ED02 we bought Lukaku for 25 million (I think) on a five year deal now reg wages FFP they are dictated by sponsorship money player sales ect now a players club value lowers each season so Lukaku 25 million on a 5 year deal his value to the club went down five million a year by the time we sold him his club value was 5 million and we sold him for 85 million which helps towards wages FFP I haven't just made that up as I listen to a financial expert who did a podcast on Evertons finances last year explaining ffp and how it works I'm not saying am a expert on it but I am correct aren't I.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Nope. That is not how it works.}

10 Jul 2018 12:18:02
BobbyC. It’s pretty much certain that the fans are aware of where our club lies in pecking order. That’s a bit self indulgent to post on a public forum almost as if you know more. It’s maybe more that we’d like to fight to keep a player like Lukaku probably in the same way that Moyes fought to keep Lescot but had to give up. I’m pretty sure Moyes didn’t lack understanding there. so maybe It’s not a lack of understanding but more hope springs eternal.

We will have Disagree on this one ED02 ha ha if you get a chance have listen to the blue rooms podcast the business matters section it's very informative and see what you think 👍👍.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - That means nothing to me. If he has said that is what determines wages in terms of FFP he is ignorant of the truth or teasing you.}

10 Jul 2018 14:40:31
Well to be honest ED02 he is neither of those things and if you listen to the podcast he can explain it a lot better than I can I always get the impression that you don't like it if somebody disagrees with you as I said I have a rough idea how FFP works maybe it's you that's wrong.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I know exactly how it works, my point was about Lukaku and wages. I will try and keep away from the Everton pages again. Not wort the grief for me.}

10 Jul 2018 21:44:03
Not aimed at anyone in particular but surely if you ask an Eds opinion or input and he/ she gives it then the subject is done. What is the point in taking a bigoted approach just because someone disagrees with you. Move on. Losing someone of some of these Eds and their knowledge or insight is surely detrimental to this site. A banter, rumours site should be just that.

You surely know by using this site that the information from the Eds is of the highest quality, otherwise you'd be on a different site instead.
So you thought something, Ed02 corrected you and you couldn't handle it, now you've lost us our best source of transfer information, making this site pretty invalid to us all.
I, like I'm sure others, have sometimes thought something that turns out to be wrong. It's a little embarrassing yes but suck it up and be thankful that someone knowledgeable has taken the time to correct you. Then next time it comes up over a pint with the lads you can reiterate the info and sound like you know your stuff.
Until the return of Ed02, I'm going to be giving a thumbs down to every one of your posts and not comment on any of them, regardless of what they say. Pointless and petty I know but hopefully it'll grate on you over time.

I can't hear a word you're saying Bluey79.

I did actually read up on it is not just a simple set of rules and it was because I like you thought I knew what I was talking about until ED002 educated me. However, unlike you I thought I would educate myself and read up about it instead of listened to twonk on a podcast.

You know what ED002 was right and I shut the hell up. You sound like you could do with a little education.

Hi all, does anyone know when the squad numbers are out for next season?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

10 Jul 2018 11:11:25
I expect that the names of the registered PL squad (up to 25 aged-over-21 players) will be officially published shortly after the transfer window closes.
The actual squad numbers (shirt numbers) have, in the past, been made known a little earlier than that - although late transfers may change them.
The shirt numbers include players not registered in the PL squad - i. e. the aged-under-21 lads.
Check the official club website nearer the start of the season - although they are not great at keeping the information up to date!
