So here we r again. international break.yeeehahhh! Gr8, fantastic, superb, can't wait. NOT!

I appreciated national teams need time games to prepare, but in this day and age with the money that is being paid we can ill afford injuries. Just imagine, Baines, Oveido, Jags, Mccarthy, Coleman, Barclay to name a few picking up knocks.
If this happens I would like to see FA allow clubs to buy players if they are ruled out for say a month. There is too much money riding on teams to get into champions league.

Dont get me wrong international football is what kids dream of, but at what expense to clubs such as ours when we get injuries?

Food for though. Insurances don't cover not qualifying for champions league!

More pointless internationals! Players we need, risk getting injured before our biggest game of the season so far. I know the players wouldn't agree but I'd be made up if none of our lads got picked! {Ed025's Note - im with you tezza, what a waste of time..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hopefully our opponents will have more than us on duty!

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless your Bayern Munich then the chances are you will have less players than us out on international duty.

Rather than have internationals played throughout the season and disrupting the clubs, perhaps the international matches should just be played post-season (like the World Cup and Euro finals actually are) or also during a mid-season winter break (although I'm less sure about that because of the weather obviously - and the effect on players in need of a rest). And, of course, any coinciding with the transfer windows would be problematic. I suppose some countries could play qualifiers in warmer places (like Qatar) during the winter break and in their own countries during the summer break. Get rid of friendly internationals, but maybe have teams playing more regularly at 'B' level (that's between U-21 and Full level) so as to give fringe and promising players a chance. Playing 4-to-6 matches in the winter break and 6-to-8 in the summer break at all levels should be sufficient every two years (that's two winters and two summers) for each of the International completions. Get rid of the other meaningless competitions like the Confederations Cup - they're just FIFA money-spinners.
OK -all of the above is a bonkers idea, but at least debate it :-)
KevinM {Ed025's Note - i think the players would revolt kev, no holidays for them?...but it does ruin my saturdays when we are not playing, and my bookie is hard up as it is!.. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

This is why England will never win a world cup. It's a shame really, I hope the same people commenting here don't have the audacity to demand the England manager gets axed when we fail again. It's all club club club. It matters not that these are 2 of only 3 games before the squad is announced. It's not like the England management need to prepare for a world cup or anything. I wish they got to play more games! I'm a lifelong Evertonian, but England's performances mean more to me. I get why people might find it all boring at this stage, but there's nothing like a world cup or a Euros. These weeks can play a big part in how a team plays in a big competition. Thought the squad Roy picked was a really good one and i'm excited at the prospect of maybe seeing Barkley get his first cap.

okay mate would you rather england win the world cup or everton win the prem and the champions league? serious question

btw just a quick mention, barkley already had a cap mate

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant start. Sorry pal, shame you had to pop back and mention it. First and foremost, the fact your asking me to pick is absurd. Like asking a parent to pick one of their children. Playing your little game though I'd go England to win the world cup yeah. I think it would give the country a big boost at a time where a lot of people are struggling, and not just Evertonians.

i don't think barkley will start for england imo, cleverley, gerrard, lampard, carrick and jones are all ahead of him for hodgson (god knows why) I think and that's a good point mate, personally I cannot stand the england national team and for me club comes first but the fans of the england team seem very annoyed with everything we seem to do and a world cup win would give them a boost

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

If oyu would rather england win the world cup you have lost it, tbf england have a better chance of doing it than us obviously but if I had the choice you chose everton all day, can't believe you said england haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Papers seem to think Barkley might start tomorrow. And yeah I said England pal, it's easy to believe because it's there in writing for you. I've travelled the world watching them play and the world cup is the biggest tournament in football. If you ever go to one you will understand. Anyway it's not black and white, Everton is my team and I dream about us winning the premier league or champions league. Fortunately, supporting one has no impact on the other. I don't see why everyone doesn't support them when they are playing! Especially when some of our lads are flying the Everton flag in the squad. But each to their own and all that.

I have one for you and please answer, england vs everton and the losing team is destroyed forever abd yoy have to pick which one you would rather keep going?

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton. Because I love football and international football tournaments take place every two years. If Everton were destroyed, what would I do on a sat? But if England as a nation didn't exist, the club you support wouldn't exist. You'd have to support Everton Chile then.

Yahoo news article of defender (on loan at Derby) sinking his Porsche in a muddy pit following (?) a Sat-Nav disaster. Oh how I laughed!.

Worth a look, pictures and all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The best thing is its sad in reallity, that a defender at a young age of 20 is driving a £100k car were are the values in life stars before they even make it not just him the lot of them,

Agree0 Disagree0

I was looking through an old programme from 86 the other day and in an interview with Paul Bracewell he was saying how he had must treated himself to a new Ford Sierra, he was an England international playing for the best team in Europe at that time. How times and values change.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton has never been the best team in europe ever! {Ed025's Note - its about opinions mate...i believe we were right up there in 85...

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Ed, is there a certain event in history we are not allowed to talk about? I respect and understand that decision if so but then comments about our European standing shouldn't be allowed because it is the obvious response. Not many of the younger generation are aware we were banned from playing european competition at a time when we had the best team in our history. {Ed025's Note - i just dont want the site invaded by reds who may see things different mate..it will turn into a slanging match, and things will get nasty, we all have a view on it..me more than most!, but the site frowns on inter team nastiness, its just not worth the hassle mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough Ed. I guess it's another example of us Evertonians having to suffer in silence! That period of football still hurts me, it would have changed everything had we won a champions league and fact we didn't get the chance with that team has left a scar since i'm not sure when il see an Everton team performing at that level again, if ever! We live in hope though right! {Ed025's Note - yes mate, what might have been hey!...that team was class, and i have said before, at that time i feel we were one of the best sides in europe, sadly we will never know..

does anyone know if Oviedo is playing on friday?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are you mistaking him for a Chilean? I have seen a lot of people do that if so, I think sky called him Chilean when we signed him. Unless your interest is extended to costa rica in which case I wouldn't know if he's gunna be playing or not. I now he is always in their squads though so I'm guessing he will be.

were looking a bit stale last few games time to change it up a bit roberto

ad go for a 4-4-2 formation

howard
coleman jagielka distin baines
deulofeu barry barkley oviedo
mirallas lukaku

osman needs dropped as he's more effective coming on, mirallas needs to be put uptop or dropped he's been below par recently, av dropped mccarthy for simple fact him and barry are to similair, and recently we have lacked the creativity, as we've had 2 defense mids, pienaar has been rotten and av gone for oviedo, the team I have picked has danger written all over it, it can do damage, its just my opinion though. be intresting to hear your views lads {Ed025's Note - for me dazza, mcarthy should start, he adds so much for me, mirallas has been poor all season and and him and peanuts would benefit from a game or 2 on the bench, ossie has also under performed...we need a bigger bench!.. :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed025. yeah I too think mccarthy is a great player but him and barry are very similair, and with the derby coming up I went with experience, I also agree with mirallas and pienaar even coleman to some extent, maybe its time for stones to get his chance at rb, i'd also give hallam hope a debut up top see what he brings, martinez squad is still transisting but now its time to look at the bigger picture with the ageing lads in the team

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on ed Mirallas has had a few good games to be fair. {Ed025's Note - im critical because i know he has a lot more to give mate, on his day i believe he is world class, for a player who has his talent, he should be scaring the life out of defences, and i want to see it week in week out not just glimpses of it!..

Agree0 Disagree0

Much as I support Everton, I always wonder why we got Mirallas (or any other player come to that) for around just £6m and he didn't go for more money to a team playing regularly in CL or EL football. Perhaps other clubs, having scouted him, knew what his true worth really was and weren't all clamouring for his services. The vibes I'm getting are that unless Mirallas bucks his ideas up and starts performing consistently better, he'll be moved on by RM - maybe as soon as the next summer transfer window. I'd love him to be a success here, as he can be devastating on occasion, but those occasions are too few and far between IMHO.

is it me or is mirallas a big game player? like against liverpool and spurs last season? he will rip into their full backs but not he full backs of palace, sunderland or hull etc? he's a strange one

Mike-Ox Long {Ed025's Note - hes a talented guy mike, but needs to produce it on a more permanent basis..

12 Nov 2013 20:40:08
thats the thing though ed unless you are navas and you do the same thing every game (no disrespect to him I think he's a great player) there isn't many wingers who can do it most games, look at the likes of ben arfa, dejagah (very underrated) and even di maria all very talented wingers but they rarely show up on a regular basis, mirallas doesn't have the pace navas has to do those same things, sometimes he seems scared to run at people, last season he was doing tricks I haven't seen ronaldinho or ronaldo do but again when he chose to, sometimes he runs sometimes he passes but mostly he waits for coleman to do the work, he needs to find a way of playing that works for both the team and mirallas himself, its not easy ed, he doesn't lack confidence he just seems scared to face most full backs, talented no doubt but needs to toughen up and that is how he will become consistent, will he do it? probably not but we just have to hope he has a good run of games (derby will be a good start)

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Does anyone else think Mirallas is most suited to the free role behind the striker? I can't see him as a winger, he goes ages without doing anything. I think he would be a constant threat if played just behind Lukaku. He finished the game v Chelsea up there and nearly scored a couple on his own against 3 defenders on the counter. But then where do you play Barkley? All I see is that Mirallas on the wing is not the best use of him. He is a class player but we don't utilise him enough in my opinion. {Ed025's Note - fair comment that mate..

RM was happy with our defence against CP for showing their resilience in keeping a clean sheet, well i'm sorry Bobby it was'nt our defence that kept a clean sheet it was their poor finishing, they missed three excellent chances. KK.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The records books will say a clean sheet not they should have scored with 3 chances.

Agree0 Disagree0

Saying that there are games where we have had loads of chances and they have had next to nothing and we have only got a draw. Swings and roundabouts. Sometimes your on form and don't win, other times you'll be miles off the pace and get a point. I guess that what's separates the top teams, they win ugly. Should be noted though that unlike Chelsea, when we play badly we don't get the lucky break of a referee giving us a decision. We have to scrap for everything and if we aren't 100% we don't get a win. Other clubs can coast through games and get given penalties that are not. We don't have that luxury.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're correct re penalties, the RedS have won 63 to our 41 over the last decade, one every 6.8 games compared to our 10.4. In that same period chelski have won 67 and Man U 64. Coincidence chelski have won the most since the Russian mafia rode into town?

Agree0 Disagree0

Not got an issue with teams getting legit pens. I saw a Liverpool one the other week and their man was hacked down. The Ramirez or Ashley Young one though. Or the Spurs ones for 'deliberate' handball. Then John Terry does the same thing and no pen given. Those are a disgrace and I think the teams you mention get a lot more of those than we do! If anything, we are often on the receiving end.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've no issue with legitimate pens but those figures suggest the sly 4 (remember man city haven't had their old baron for a decade), not sure of Arsenal's stats though, are favoured. We are continually shafted, Baines against Cardiff being a good example, as nailed on a pen as you're ever going to see, then you get the chelski pen on Ramires on the weekend, an absolute disgrace.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember in that bent tournament we played out in the USA v Madrid in pre season. We had 2 stone wall pens waived away. Looked like the organisers wanted Madrid in the final. I see no different here in the premier league. The clubs in favour get help, those not fashionable enough get shafted. One day a team will take the league to court over loss of earnings because with this much money at stake, decisions should be 100% correct.

Manx Mickey Blue eyes! Real sorry to other chap, only just realised there was another! Sorry Mickey! I myself agree totally with most of recent posts. Yes we're great at mo possion wise BUT WE wouldn't BE if the bigger teams had'nt screwed up! Poimts dropped are LOST poimts we'll never get them back & unlike the RS city utd chelse Spurs they Normally fight back while we drop off. The beast should of ripp'd palace apart 70% is great/useless if we don't score! Pass & move forward not back got to kill a game off tjis van not be done with that style! We need cheque book out now HONDA, Bains off he's doing a Felli ATM yes he's GREAT but not when his head is clearly else where I don't think I've ever seen him that USELESS! There are younger faster more skillfull LB around NOW GO GET US ONE WITH HONDA TOO RM. x (I'll always end witj a x) sorry again Mblue eyes!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Honda has already, officially, signed for AC Milan. And Baines is NOT 'doing a Fellaini', he is just not the focal point of all our play anymore, that's all. Please punctuate in future, too. It was very hard to decipher what you where trying to say a lot of the time.

Its been rumored that under the new BT Sport deal with the Champions League, that English Clubs in the competition will get around 25mil apiece. Significant dough, which (conditional on us making the top 4) would help us purchase a quality striker or pay off a significant portion of our debts. But if we don't make top 4, the monetary inequality between those that have and those that don't will only increase making it harder to get in. Bit of a double edged sword.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

While other clubs have sugar daddies, or are allowed(!) to operate with truly massive debts, or have huge match day income (due to modern high capacity stadiums) and other worldwide commercial earnings, we don't have much of a chance of competing. Bottom line is that having the best players is what makes a team successful and that costs big money in transfer fees and wages. We do well to stay in the top half of the table - let alone challenging for a top-six or (amazingly) top-four position - considering what we are able to spend on players IMHO.

Evening ed just thought I'd ask. What did you think of the game yesterday?

Thanks wasy {Ed025's Note - i thought we were very poor wasy, too many players were off the pace for me, the midfield dictates the tempo of the play and without mcarthy we lacked energy and drive, even lukaku looked out of sorts, if we perform like that in the derby we will get trashed mate!. if we want to qualify for a european spot, we have to beat teams like palace, i hope bobby gave them a kick up the ass for this showing, but hey were still up there, so onwards and upwards..
